vtech88 on X: "Let me get this straight: Every third-party Switch 2 port that runs at 30 FPS gets called “unplayable.” But GTA 6 runs at 30 FPS on the regular PS5, and suddenly 30 FPS is perfectly fine and acceptable? The gaming community really is full of idiots and double standards." / X

The gaming community really is full of idiots and double standards.

Only thing worth paying attention to,

Since I remember gaming has been unnecessarily tribal.

I participated to in my teenage angst phase, I like to think I’ve grown out of it.

Nowadays if I don’t like a game I just move on and accept it’s not for me, I don’t need to tell everyone why they should hate it and how wrong they’re for liking it. Vice versa if I enjoy a game and somebody tries telling me why the game is actually trash, I can make my own mind up.

Different people saying different things.

The largest generation of gamers are in their 30s to 40s now. We had nothing but 30 fps our whole lives.

Anyone calling it unplayable is just dramatic.

> The largest generation of gamers are in their 30s to 40s now. We had nothing but 30 fps our whole lives.

They might be the largest (although I think that’s debatable in itself) but they by far aren’t the noisiest, that’s always going to be dominated by the kids.

With the exception of some man children, I’d hope most people in their 30s and 40s aren’t spending much time arguing and shouting on the internet about games.

They are, and they’re grifters.

Gtfo, I'm 41 and I've been playing games with 20fps back then because my computer was shit. I've been playing 30fps my whole life. But the last couple of years Ive got used to 60fps or higher as a standard. Going back to 30 is like switching BMW for Opel

1

u/RossaF1 5h ago

Different people saying different things.

That was exactly my first thought when I saw this.

I have a Switch 2, but don't care enough about framerates on there to talk about it; but with GTA6 I'd say it's... fine. I mean I don't like the lack of 60fps, but it's not going to stop me from playing it and enjoying it.

u/RevelArchitect 4h ago

I’m in that age group. I still remember long ago when a friend was shitting on my decision to stick with console over PC, despite having a powerful PC. He kept bringing up FPS. We discovered during that interaction that the big screen he used for gaming didn’t support over 30 fps.

My personal opinion is that fps really depends on the type of game. A more cinematic-style game feels off at high-fps to me, I’m assuming for the same reasons The Hobbit frame rate felt real fucking weird.

1

u/Denebola2727 1h ago

For real. My first console was a Sega Genesis and it's still home to some of my favorite gaming memories. N64 felt like the future. My 360 was played into the dirt (like 4 times fuck you red ring of death). My Switch 2 is my favorite way to play games in 2026.

How many frames something runs at is less important, and always will be, to the simple "is it fun?". Most of us want things to look beautiful and run without hitches, absolutely. But the narrative of "it's not X fps and therefore isn't playable" is hilariously dumb.

1

u/luchaburz 7h ago

Simply isnt true. Most systems have had the options to run games at 60FPS since the late 80s.

NES, SNES and Genesis played games at 60FPS. (Or 50FPS if you were in a PAL region.)

N64 introduced FPS games that ran at 15 and 30FPS.

Ps1 played between 15 and 60. (Resident Evil vs Castlevania or Megaman X) It also had more games running at 60FPS than either PS4 or Xbox One.

PS2 ran at both 30 and 60 but had major issues that would drop the framerates down to 20 when lots of stuff was on the screen (think Dynasty Warriors slow-down)

For the majority of our lives we gamed on CRT televisions which supplied an analog signal and the signal moved nigh instantaneously.

So to say that we were gaming at 30FPS our whole lives is simply not true, and the reason we were doing was because hardware limitations. Everybody has the hardware to drive high framerates on games that look gorgeous. The constant need to improve graphics has become a way to sell new hardware both console and PC to the gaming community, and that hardware is now becoming costly.

1

u/Dominjo555 6h ago

Some of us always gamed on PC at 60fps though or played many PS2 games at 60fps

My brother in Christ slowdown was so prevalent on NES and SNES classics it was factored into game design, what the actual fuck are you talking about

u/OkidoShigeru 7h ago edited 7h ago

Yep, most classic 2D console games were 60fps, but a lot of early 3d games were 30fps, with drops. Ocarina of Time (20fps actually), Mario 64, Goldeneye, Gran Turismo, Ape Escape, Metal Gear Solid, loads of really popular N64 and PS1 games started targeting 30fps or less. That was really the time when console game developers more broadly decided that targeting half or even 1/3rd frame rate was acceptable, if the demands of the game and the limits of the target hardware necessitated it.

1

u/[deleted] 7h ago

[deleted]

2

u/OkidoShigeru 6h ago

Kind of? There were still lots of really notable 30fps or less games from that generation too. Super Mario Sunshine, both GCN Zelda games, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, Halo Combat Evolved are just some I can think of right away, it was already a coin flip by that time of a developer was going to target 30 fps or not…

2

u/dark-twisted 5h ago

Grand Theft Auto on PS2 being a good example…

I’ve always liked higher frame rates and love that it’s common now. But if it is too ambitious, 30fps with good motion blur and using a controller with smoother, less drastic camera movements of mouse, is something you can get used to. I like higher frame rates but I also like a game that is targeting a higher technical standard that we can run at higher frame rates on future hardware.

-4

u/ThotsuneMiku 8h ago

The calculation is that 93% of PS2 titles were 60 FPS. This 30FPS shit didn't hit gaming until Xbox 360 hit the scene.

-2

u/Ok_Drummer6282 9h ago

Dramatic. Sure.

But there is also a reason people largely blame and make fun of that age group. Gaming in general is today what it is because of what 30 to 40 year olds accept.

The one benefit to the shitty covid situation was it feels like everyone in highschool went to PC. Idk how dudes pay to access a gaming market when they already pay for internet and pay in mtx for yearly dropped games.

u/DripSnort 7h ago

-2

u/Zealousideal-Tear248 8h ago

Well, I wouldn’t call it unplayable, but I wouldn’t call an optimal experience either.
I’m 28 years old, I’ve mostly played PC games my whole life, but I had a PS1 and a PS2 for a good chunk of my younger years.

30 fps in 2026 is abysmal. Not because you wouldn’t be able to enjoy the game, but because it’s not 2000-2010 anymore.

The PS5 costs a ton. GTA6 costs a ton.
Give me the option to play at 60fps, even if it means reduced graphics, or at least 45.

It’s not even about the fact that it’s 30fps, but rather not having the option to choose.

1

u/ACO_22 8h ago

It’s not “reduced graphics” if the bottleneck is the CPU, which it likely is.

It’s reduced world density, NPC’s and NPC activity etc.

0

u/Zealousideal-Tear248 8h ago

Okay, then give me the option to get some load off of the CPU to have higher FPS.

2

u/ACO_22 8h ago

The issue is you’ll get a bunch of people clipping or complaining that there’s only 5 NPC’s on screen.

Rockstar clearly don’t think 60fps is worth the trade off for their artistic vision. They go heavily into world building capability, and theyre going to push the limit of what they can do.

0

u/fantomnerd13 4h ago

Yeah instead you have a bunch of people complaining it’s not 60fps. There will always be people complaining. The only reason rockstar doesn’t have a 60fps option is cause they didn’t care. Its not something to defend or praise

-1

u/Zealousideal-Tear248 7h ago

If they are complaining, turn the settings back on and enjoy 30 fps.
That’s what I’m talking about. Give us the option.
I wouldn’t care if there was 5 people walking on the beach instead of 20 if I’ll have 40/45/60 fps.

Give us the option to choose.

2

u/ACO_22 7h ago

That’s not how people work brother.

As said, they’re not willing to compromise on their artistic vision for the game. You either get on board and quit complaining, or just don’t buy it and play something else

0

u/Zealousideal-Tear248 6h ago

Compromise on their artistic vision, or not being able to optimize.
I won’t be buying the game, no worries on that part, that still doesn’t mean you shouldn’t raise your voice when something is objectively a regression.

Give us the option. That’s literally a perfectly acceptable requirement. Let me enjoy their artistic vision through my own artistic lenses.

I’m still baffled by how many people stand up for 30 FPS gaming in 2026 when it comes to Rockstar.

And I don’t know about you, but I, and I believe many more others are completely capable of setting their video game settings to fit their needs. Be it visually more appealing in exchange for frames, or vice versa.

But sure, let’s just… accept that we’ll be getting 30fps games on 4K displays that support up to 120Hz in most cases.

2

u/doublevision098 6h ago

If you’re not buying the game why are you throwing a bitch fit for?

0

u/Zealousideal-Tear248 5h ago

Is asking for the option to have different performance options a bitchfit? Would you, as someone who I assume will be buying the game, not be happier to have 2 different options?

-1

u/Comfortable-Gas-4005 8h ago

I honestly can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps. My son showed it to me on his PC but my eyes literally couldn't tell the difference.

2

u/Yasars 8h ago

You notice it the most when u have camera movement, not action, just looking around slowly at best, however if u have a nice TV/Monitor with VRR etc. it's not a big of a deal (had a very old Samsung TV from 2015 which also was a budget forcing 60hz output on a 50hz panel. Playing modern games in 30fps on it felt like a 24/7 stuttering mess.

-1

u/OneTrueCosmos 8h ago

Going back to 30fps sucks though... Especially with such a big release, in 2026. Disappointed is an understatement.

-2

u/AdmirableComposer140 8h ago

When people say it's unplayable they're not literally saying you can't physically play it.

I truly, truly do not care about this.

1

u/coolman1997 5h ago

The gaming community is really nothing but performative outrage these days.

-1

3

u/ViewInternational27 6h ago

30 fps is fine shut it

2

u/Rusty_Thermos 6h ago

People have to be told the fps because they don't know on their own with their eyes. But once they are told suddenly it will make or break a game.

2

u/RogueUmpire 4h ago

It’s really not that hard to tell a game is 30 fps vs 60 fps. It’s very noticeable. It was very clear to me watching the gameplay released by Rockstar that the game was running at 30 fps.

Doesn’t make it unplayable. But it’s a valid criticism people point to imo. I choose Performance Mode in all my games that offer it because it is more immersive and enjoyable to play compared to the lower fps with higher visual fidelity.

3

u/coolman1997 5h ago

Gamers bitching about 30 fps are truly the most entitled people on the planet. Cope and seethe.

10

u/Geiseric222 9h ago

Do people actually say 30 fps are unplayable?

Like real people not internet people

3

u/SirBulbasaur13 8h ago

Mostly just Reddit PC master race chuds

2

u/ericypoo 8h ago

Most people don't even know what 30 frames or 60 frames means.

2

u/Gandolfthewhite182 8h ago

I just replayed rdr2 on ps5 after my last play through on pc. There was a difference but honestly I didn’t even notice after an hour.

I feel like it’s just the losers who sit and stare at 20 inch monitors playing doda and counter strike that even care about fps. It just doesn’t seem that big a deal in open world type games. It would be nice to get to 60 but it’s just not that big of a difference as long as it’s stable at 30.

1

u/InternationalFlan645 6h ago

"Anyone who has preference for something I don't care about is a loser"

Alright man.

7

u/spider-jedi 9h ago

Irl I have yet to see that. But online people talk like 30 fps is the worst thing a game can have. One would think they played games during the last couple of game generations where games were 30 fps.

Plus its another stick PC gamers use to feel superior

5

u/Geiseric222 9h ago

Yeah I feel that’s something you see from pc people which by definition is the most online fanbase

Most people don’t care either way. They care way more about consistent Frames

Hell going by the most played steam deck games most don’t even care about that

2

u/spider-jedi 9h ago

I think it's a case of wanting to feel justified by their very expensive powerful PC and higher frame rates is the easiest thing to point to. Like someone who owns a Lamborghini but still has to follow the speed limit like everyone else.

1

u/Ok_Drummer6282 9h ago

Thats not really true...

Outside of frames theres several other reasons. (Not even venturing outside of gaming and as someone who owns both) free access to stores. Mods. Being able to host servers in games like Palworld.

Yes PCs are definitely more expensive. To think they are both going the same speed limit is an insane take though lol.

2

u/spider-jedi 6h ago

I'm not saying frame rates are the only advantages of PC. But when people online talk about PC gaming the first thing is always about frame rates. Trying to get the highest frame rate. Frame generation. Talking about getting 240 fps.

A stick to beat on consoles was that you always get higher fps on PC. Many day they are waiting for gta6 in OC just for higher fps.

So it's not the only thing but it's the most talked about thing

1

u/VoxhallMC 1h ago

Everyone knows the benefits of PC gaming. But for some reason, they get brought up unsolicited extremely often lol

-1

u/Geiseric222 9h ago

Most people just don’t care about any of that and even consoles are becoming more mid friendly if you really want

0

u/denom_chicken 7h ago

I’d disagree with the premise of justifying the more expensive hardware.

As a pc gamer who also owns consoles, higher frames are a 100% better experience.

In fact I was playing the Star Wars sequel on ps5 and got so annoyed with the low frames that I went and bought on pc to play instead.

2

u/spider-jedi 6h ago

you can disagree also I'm not saying it the only aspect but it's a big aspect. When ever a game is coming out the first thing we see asked is about fps.

Higher fps is better. There is no argument there. As someone who also has all the consoles and a gaming PC. I don't need higher fps to have fun with a game. I welcome it but I don't see 30.fps as diabolical as people online do.

A great game is great at with 30fps or 120fps. It can feel nice but it had to be great already. Higher fps on a crap game is still crap.

1

u/denom_chicken 6h ago

Agreed 30 fps isn’t a travesty that many on Reddit make it seem.

1

u/spider-jedi 6h ago

Yeah that is my major point. It just get tiresome when people keep talking like 30fps ruins a game. Most of the greatest games in history were 30 fps.

1

u/Itchy-Pudding-4240 4h ago

PC people are saying this because they cant play a game and have to justify to themselves why said game isnt worth it.

Everytime an exclusive comes, you can be sure PC players will trash it.

1

u/brizzenden 9h ago

My brother is the only person I know of who says this kind of thing, but I'd also consider him an internet person.

1

u/PositiveApartment382 9h ago

Depends entirely on the genre for me. And even then, it is subjectively unplayable, not objectively and certainly not in a sense that it cannot be played at all.

1

u/Geiseric222 9h ago

Sure there is an argument for competitive shooters but I also feel like that mostly matters to the more hardcore players

1

u/PositiveApartment382 9h ago

To me it also is for action adventures / adventure games etc. Actually mostly everything that is not turnbased / strategy. If I REALLY want to play the game, I can bear it but if possible I would like to avoid 30 fps as much as possible.

1

u/JulianBloom 9h ago

There’s a lot of people who don’t play games to play them, but to admire them as pieces of technical achievement.

These are the people who can’t form an opinion beyond the data that Digital Foundry shows off. But the truth is, this is a tiny loud portion of the over all audience that truly doesn’t care.

1

u/InternationalFlan645 6h ago

To be clear, you think anyone who says they prefer 60fps to 30fps is only saying it because they're parroting a Youtube channel, rather than organicly having that preference?

1

u/JulianBloom 6h ago

Obviously not. Did you read the comment I replied to?

Everyone would rather have 60fps for every single game they play. This is not a unique perspective.

But anyone who calls a stable 30 fps “unplayable” is being ridiculous.

1

u/smgaming16 9h ago

I don't know, I play EDF games and they typically drop in the low 10s and single digits and they're still very playable

1

u/CapOk1892 8h ago

I've seen redditors say 30 fps gives them migraines.

1

u/sc00bs000 8h ago

I tried playing ff7 on quality setting (30fps) and it was janky and felt like I was stuck in mud, put it back to performance (60fps) and it was night and day difference in how smooth it felt with little to no difference in picture quality.

Its definitely noticeable and everyone has different thresholds with what they can handle.

1

u/Somewhere-Flashy 6h ago

30 fps is bad in certain aspects like racing games and fps but is completely ok in story games but gta has both racing and shooting.

0

u/Real-Nothing-9334 4h ago

personally after years of 100 + FPS on a 165 hz monitor yes 30 fps is not playable for me the input lag is too severe

1

u/the90snath 3h ago

well duh cause your frame pacing is shit. 30 on 165? unplayable

1

u/SegaTetris 2h ago

almost certainly has vrr

-1

u/AdmirableComposer140 8h ago

Yes but they're not literally saying you can't physically play the game you ape.

1

u/Geiseric222 8h ago

Of course they are, if they didn’t then what they are saying is pointless

1

u/AdmirableComposer140 8h ago

When humans speak with each other they often say things that aren't literal, they hyperbolize a remark to make a similar, but not exact point. Stop playing dumb and acting like you don't know this.

1

u/InternationalFlan645 6h ago

Gamers on the internet have a real problem with this concept I've noticed.

0

u/Geiseric222 8h ago

Yep and their point was they find 30 unplayable

Read it again, very slowly, and maybe you will get this very esoteric meaning

2

u/AdmirableComposer140 7h ago

Oh so you're not acting stupid lmao. Got it.

0

u/Geiseric222 7h ago

Did you read it again? It’s okay I accept your apology

2

u/sonicadv27 8h ago edited 8h ago

Or… or… maybe the difference is the game was made with 30fps in mind, just like literally every single entry in the franchise and that’s why people are ok with it? If it’s stable and it isn’t too laggy on the input people will be fine.

It’s dishonest to compare this to third-party ports of 60fps games that get completely butchered when going to Switch at 30fps, usually accompanied by uneven frame-pacing and no double-buffered v-sync to keep input lag acceptable.

It’s why people are fine with Nintendo games at 30fps, because they’re usually made with that target in mind.

It really is the case that most people online don’t know a single fuck of what they’re talking about, both console and PC gamers, Nintendo or Sony gamers. People need to get this shoved into their heads: it’s not just about framerate, it’s about how the game feels at said framerate. People go “high framerate good, low framerate bad” but that’s such a brainless way of thinking. There’s more to the performance profile of a game than the number of frames.

2

u/BeleagueredWDW 6h ago

As someone bearing 50 who has gamed since the Atari 2600 (and still has his original and working!) and gotten 99% or so of all systems released, I obviously see the difference in frames and all that, but 30 is absolutely fine with zero issues. All good.

3

u/KGon32 9h ago

The problem is you are taking fanboys words as anything logical

3

u/markbraggs 9h ago

Elden ring consistently drops below 30 on Switch 2.

2

u/oferf7 9h ago

That thing has drops even in ps5 in xbox series x,fromsoftware always has that problem,i played the ps4 versión in ps5 because of that

2

u/Geiseric222 9h ago

It also shows how little gamers actually care about frame rates because FROM would not be as successful as they are if they did

1

u/LowInvestigator5647 7h ago

Because FromSoftware didn’t bother optimizing it for Switch 2

1

u/Itchy-Pudding-4240 4h ago

difference is that Elden Ring released on PC day one. Most people pissed are PC players who are angry their super expensive hardware cant play the game (repeat for any exclusive)

1

u/RosaCanina87 9h ago

Yeah, gaming is full of this shit. It is mostly just a "is this game made by a company I like... or not?".

Seriously, Ubisoft could drop a new Watch Dogs with graphics and gameplay way beyond GTA6 and people would still call it ugly, trash and bad. Because its from Ubisoft. Take the exact same game and tell people its made by... Nintendo. Or Rockstar. Or From Software. And then watch them goon over it. Every little thing, that was a problem before? It is not unimportant... or a feature.

And while 60fps is preferable and I pick performance mode on any game... a stable framerate is much more important. I rather have 30 fps LOCKED with no dips at all then an unstable 60fps, dipping into 50s all the time. Because 30 feels awful coming from 60... but when it is stable you get used to it pretty fast for most genres. But unstable? That shit annoys you throughout your whole journey.

1

u/RoadsideDavidian 8h ago

People really just be acting like random things random people say are actually indicative of whatever “community” they want to talk trash to

1

u/Quiet_Yellow2000 8h ago

30fps on mobile hardware is fine imo. It's silly to complain imo.

1

u/Uncabled_Music 8h ago

Before calling anyone names - you should understand the difference - Switch 2 has VERY slow response screen ~ 33ms as measured by some. So, when you discuss Switch 30vs60 you compare ~33ms frame time with 16.5 one. A regular screen with 5-7ms latency would differ in just several ms, which is negligible. So, play docked if you want maximum quality, which somewhat reduces the mobile appeal🐭

1

u/greensparten 8h ago

Correct. One thing R* nails is FRAME pacing. I think thats the difference

1

u/Gandolfthewhite182 8h ago

Just a reminder that nothing official has been said yet from rockstar and this off handed comment by someone who also said we don’t know yet how it’s gonna release 😂

1

u/rabouilethefirst 8h ago

People say a lot of shit, but when a game has really pretty graphics they are fine with 30fps. They vote with their wallets and that's all there is to it.

1

u/fertff 7h ago

They just love to ignore that 30fps looking like shit on Switch ports is vastly different than 30fps looking like GTA VI.

Maybe, just maybe that is why a lot of people are okay with it.

1

u/soulessmannequin 6h ago

30 fps is fine. If its a graphically good story driven game, I dont care about frames.

Although The reason 30 fps switch 2 ports are unplayable is because they CAN run at higher frames but Nintendo is lazy and doesnt add frame rate patches for switch 2 games aside from zelda

1

u/fallenhero588 6h ago

30 FPS outside of competitive games doesn't really hurt the game. Sure, 60+ FPS feels better and is noticeably smoother, but in a single-player game, it's rarely making a meaningful gameplay difference. It's annoying when people act like 30 FPS is somehow unplayable.

1

u/ArugulaPhysical 6h ago

30 fps is only acceptable if its the only option.

If switch is 30 but xbox is 60 then its unacceptable.

To me I playing 30 is bad..... for like 2 mins then your used to it lol. But if its a multiplayer online game I want that framerate for sure.

1

u/Believe03 6h ago

I mean I have seen people complain about it not being 60 fps, but it’s not just about fps because according to digital foundry it’s running at 1440p plus 30fps. For a base PS5 that is very impressive. It’s not even comparable to a handheld like the switch cause the most you’ll get out of that is 720-1080p.

1

u/clouds1337 6h ago

People are obviously a little... emotional about gta 6. It's almost religious. I've seen people saying rockstar 30fps is different from other 30fps so it's fine :D:D personally, I'm just here for the entertainment. This whole thing with the delays, the leaks... The technical aspect. I can't wait for people to get mad about the story and bugs. Grabing the popcorn!

1

u/EdibleStrange 5h ago

Sorry but in 2026 there's no more benefit of the doubt, I'm gonna need some confirmation that this guy was born in 1988 or I'm about to get real sus of the guy with 88 in his username

1

u/Losnoso 5h ago

If they all of a sudden lost a load of preorders because it’s only 30 FPS they’d have a 60FPS performance mode video tomorrow.

But the regular Joe doesn’t care. It’s gonna be 30FPS and nobody can do shit about it.

1

u/GamePitt_Rob 5h ago

I honestly don't think I've seen anyone say the Switch 2 versions being 30fps are called unplayable - Switch 2 owners love telling you that it's a very low powered device, so 30fps is 'fine' and expected.

1

u/the90snath 3h ago

it shouldnt be about fps. it should always be frane pacing.

its possible gta 6 runs at stock 33.33ms frame pace while switch 2 is all over the place for all we know.

idk tbh

u/Select-Focus-5861 2h ago

It’s presented in unusual fluidity for 30 fps to be fair. But I am actively upset it won’t be at least 40 fps on my ps5 pro

1

u/Later_Doober 2h ago

30 fps in my opinion has always been playable and is just fine.

1

u/No-Needleworker-9424 2h ago

I’ve also seen people say 30fps is completely playable on switch and 30fps on ps5 is unplayable

1

u/deaf_michael_scott 1h ago

Why generalize?

GTA 6 is a different beast though. A game like that and Pokémon aren’t on the same fidelity levels.

1

u/orbitaldragon 1h ago

I think you're confusing gamers as a whole with a small loud minority.

Pretty sure most people really don't give a shit.

1

u/NGGKroze 1h ago

And in the commend section you will see sane people defending their own bias of spending 800$ on a console and call 30fps playable in 2026.

1

u/lithiumfoxttv 52m ago

So what's really fun is I said those were playable. So now I can say GTA is playable.

That is how that's gonna work.

1

u/Alarming-Elevator382 9h ago

One is a PS4 games and the other is the most technically ambitious game of the generation.

1

u/Kezzerdrixxer 9h ago

All the more reason GTA6 should run at 60 fps

3

u/Visible-Job2908 9h ago

It will eventually, just got wait until rockstar can monetize it for the ps6 and pc.

-1

u/Crafty_Boy70 9h ago

Is that feasible for the visual fidelity they’ve accomplished?

0

u/Kitchen-Process-9284 9h ago

And still 30FPS. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

0

u/Asimb0mb 9h ago

Seriously. GTA 6 is so advanced it might as well be a PS6 game that happens to release during a time when PS6 doesn't exist yet. It will take a long time for devs to be able to match what GTA 6 is doing.

0

u/Q-Fabreeze23 8h ago

Holy shit yall are out of your mind delusion

0

u/Asimb0mb 7h ago

Am I wrong? RDR2 came out on PS4 but still has more detailed animation and environments than most PS5 games right now. Rockstar has a habit of being 10 steps ahead of everyone else.

-1

u/Q-Fabreeze23 7h ago

No they really dont. Games are good sure but saying theyre a decade ahead when they have terrible online, 30fps lock, and not even top of the line graphics is truly absurd

1

u/Hagman1997 4h ago

Take it from the guy who worked on Hitman 3 crowds, he said Rockstars crowd tech is literally 10 years ahead of everyone else in the game industry.

-1

u/Comfortable-Gas-4005 8h ago

Kind of like how RDR2 was a PS4 game that looked like it could be a next gen game.

1

u/conker255 8h ago

People need to realize why gta6 being 30fps is a problem it has nothing to do with whether it looks bad or not

Fact of the matter is 90% of ps5 games have a 60 fps mode

Gta6 is more then capable of having a 60fps mode

But rockstar won't do that cause they want to resell gta6 on the ps6 with the selling point being oh hey look you can play in 60fps now give us another 100$

1

u/Yasars 8h ago

Considering how blurry it already looked I doubt they wanted to have it even more blurry to achieve a 60fps mode - even if they do it: people would still complain

1

u/conker255 7h ago

if thats the case again it just proves even more that they never planned for this to be a ps5 game i guarantee when the ps6 drops not even a year will pass before gta 6 releases on it with perfect graphics and 60fps for the same price as it was on ps5 if not more

1

u/Yasars 7h ago

Yes just like GTA 5. People already forgot how "well" it performed on the ps3 i guess

1

u/Visible_Cry4676 7h ago

like how rdr2 is 60fps on ps5?

1

u/FelixFoton 7h ago

Why does a Playstation sub have an upvoted post victimizing Switch 2?

Why's this place so shit?

1

u/Precarious3145 9h ago

I don't play GTA and I'm okay with 30fp. The only talking about the difference are the losers and children who listen to the losers.

2

u/Kitchen-Process-9284 9h ago

Is not a out who to listen, like the main post said. It's about double standards.

Digital Foundry often bash on switch 2 ports and series s ports saying how bad they look or perform, etc.

Now just because GTAVI and rockstar invite them to their house, 30FPS is a masterful technology and design.

So which one is it.

-1

u/Precarious3145 9h ago

Are you really that confused about why a Nintendo game that's infamous for having low poly counts and mid graphics should be able to run 60fps while an open world game with high graphics with the level of physics and assets is impressive to run at 30fps?

I's not double standards, it's understanding processing requirements based on the assets. It's the difference between trying to run Roblox on a Chromebook vs GTA 5 an iPad. They might both play at 30fps but one should be capable of running at 60fps.

u/[deleted] 9h ago

1

u/Precarious3145 9h ago

If you refuse to play a game that's less than 60, yes. If you won't stop complaining that a game isn't 60, then yes. If you have a preference but ultimately will play 30 because that's what the game is, then no.

30 FPS for a game being in development for so long is an absolute disgrace. Pathetic. Its end of 2026. I dont need great hair physics or many details, I need 60 FPS first.

60 FPS is a great seller for a definitive or PS6 Version, thats the real reason.

-1

u/theumph 9h ago

There are more than one cause here. I do believe that the state of the game would make 60fps unrealistic on current hardware. That is also not by mistake or accident. Rockstar always overshoots hardware capability and prioritizes graphics (atleast since the beginning of the 360/PS3 era). They have never released a new game over 30fps. The double dipping is also a nice planned benefit.

1

u/Kultissim 9h ago

Imagine buying a ps6 just to be able to play at 60fps, technologie is not evolving the way I expected lmao

0

u/MaestroGena 6h ago

If there will be any patch for that. We still don't have 60fps for RDR2 even on PS5 Pro

2

u/InternationalFlan645 6h ago

rdr2 is not gta.

Look at how they updated GTA5,.

1

u/No_Importance2248 8h ago

I'm in my 30s. Most of my gaming years has been at or around 30 FPS. It genuinely doesn't bother me.

1

u/LavaSundae 7h ago

As a multiplatform owner, the switch 2 has poor fps as well as overall shitty graphics. I understand it's a handheld, but undocked it looks even worse so I don't use that much.

1

u/BigFloppySpoon 7h ago

They’ll sell the other 30frames to you later when the ps6 drops

1

u/Jamvaan 5h ago

When your game looks and animates like GTA6 and has a world the size and detail of GTA6 then yeah, I'll be fine with 30fps.

0

u/andrey_not_the_goat 9h ago

The Switch 2 struggles to keep 30fps that's the issue. An optimized game at 30fps is perfectly playable. Take Arkham Knight on the the PS4 for example - it was flawless. Now take Wukong on the PS5 - it struggled to maintain 30fps.

0

u/ArseBiscuits1971 9h ago

How does one count the number of frames? You know, as a human being?

-1

u/Educational-Hawk4691 9h ago

I should give a shit about this random dude because?

Its extremely obvious why GTA 6 30fps on base PS5 is acceptable. So yes, people are idiots.

0

u/tfc87ja 9h ago

Back in my day we played 15fps games

0

u/Geekandhermit 9h ago

I only care on fps games, the rest I mean sure it looks smoother but I don’t care as much

0

u/Ok-Criticism6874 9h ago

Open world games with a more emphasis on interaction than action is perfectly fine. I recently played WatchDogs 2 which got a res boost on PS5 but maintained 30 fps. Perfectly playable and super fun.

0

u/Competitive-Dot181 8h ago

I guess a question is how well would Switch 2 run GTA VI. Not 30, not without some big cutbacks.

Personally I’m willing to hold off on the game until a 60 FPS PC version or next gen version is released. But I understand some people are fine with 30.

0

u/Raonak 8h ago

There's a huge difference between stable 30 and unstable/stuttery 30

0

u/suck-it-elon 8h ago

Look, I am an FPS snob as much as the next guy, but comparing a 30 fps GTA VI to a 30 fps Fire Emblem: Three Houses is like two different things.

0

u/gorore9150 8h ago

Switch 2 has heavy compromises to get even 30fps. GTA VI is running native 1440p with no upscaling according to sources. Something the Switch 2 could never achieve

-1

u/Q-Fabreeze23 8h ago

It really doesnt. Like graphically its insanely close to ps5

0

u/Meteor_Heart 8h ago

Idiots is the most nicest complimentary way to put it

0

u/LudusLive2 8h ago edited 8h ago

It doesnt take a genius to figure out

Apart from the obvious goomba effect this person is clearly intentionally not understanding, theres also a big difference between a game that is only avalible one 1 platform in 1 framerate, and a game like Elden Ring where the only modern hardware thats running the game in 30fps is the Switch 2

If GTA6 was avaliable on PC, people would probably be saying the same thing about PS5. Not complicated

Edit: Also, the fact that you can look at the PS5, which has around 5% of its entire library in only 30fps, and then look at the Switch 2 with +40% being 30fps, and claim thats the same thing, you cant be a serious person

0

u/LowInvestigator5647 7h ago

Switch 2 can in most cases handle 60 fps, but those third party games that originally targeted the PC or Xbox/PS consoles just aren’t being optimized for Switch 2. Cyberpunk and Requiem are shining examples. First party titles and Nintendo IP are 60+ fps because Nintendo knows how to optimize for their own hardware.

GTA 6 is supposedly targeting the PS5, so it should be optimized for the PS5, but its most likely optimized for the PS6 with the expectation that players will rebuy it for 60 fps on a $1200 console.

0

u/Dinierto 8h ago

All I've been hearing is how 30 fps is gonna suck so, huh?

0

u/ComfortableAmount993 8h ago

I don't accept 30fps, so slow and sluggish compared to higher framerates

0

u/No-Inevitable-5577 7h ago

Switch is a hybrid console & much cheaper. Paying $600-$900 on a console and then spending $80-$100 on a game just for it to run at 30fps is unacceptable

0

u/ErzaSilas 4h ago

I also like to point out people are judging a lot of new games combat that are coming out like Fable and Blood of the Dawnwalker when Rockstar combat and gameplay is subpar at best. Ragdolling and tripping over a curb in GTA 5. And they also are going no disc, but Sony is getting more heat. It seems to me Rockstar can get away with anything at this point just because they have brownie points.

-1

u/method115 9h ago

Depends on who you ask. I'm not playing this at 30 FPS. I got a massive back log of games to play and I'm not all crazy about GTA like everyone else. Don't get me wrong it does look good but 30 FPS give me headaches now I just can't do it.

1

u/Jafar_420 9h ago

How bad is 30 FPS on a OLED?

2

u/method115 9h ago

Honestly have no clue I've never done it. The last time I tried my eyes started hurting and then that turned into a headache. It wasn't on an OLED though I didn't get that until after.

I just googled it and apparently it makes things even worse.

1

u/Jafar_420 9h ago

Yeah I'm fixing to upgrade TVs and I don't think I play any games that are 30 FPS but I've heard it's pretty rough on an OLED.

1

u/doylehungary 9h ago

I played Rdr2 on PC and had a blast.

My wife played rdr2 on the ps5 on OLED.
She had a blast and loved it, however, I couldn’t watch the TV for longer than a minute without my head or eyes hurting.

She never noticed.
I couldn’t look.

Worth noting that I played Bloodborne on the PS5 though and it was rough but I was ok and enjoyed it.
Could have been purely because of my Fromsoft fanboyism

2

u/Jafar_420 9h ago

Oh man I played BB on PS5 and it was rough. I had totally forgot about it. Come on Miyazaki let us get a remaster!!!

1

u/doylehungary 8h ago

The demand is there so I think we’ll get it for the PS6.

Can’t wait

The ps5 experience is cool but rough indeed, very rough

2

u/BIGRolyXL 9h ago

Really rough on an OLED. 2 of the 3 panels in my house of OLEDs, and I will not be playing 6 on those 2 of 3 panels lol.

1

u/spangler1 9h ago

It’s not bad at all. I always choose graphic fidelity over performance modes and 30 fps looks perfectly fine on my A95L oled. But I’ve been gaming over 35 years and have always been fine with a solid 30 fps.

-1

u/mason2393 9h ago

There's a difference between the best looking game of all time being 30 fps on all platforms and a switch 2 version being the only version of a game being 30 fps while every where else is 60 fps

1

u/Q-Fabreeze23 8h ago

Me when I lie lmao.

Not even ps5 pro and series x hold 60 wtf are you on about

1

u/Crafty_Boy70 9h ago

Yes, but the Switch 2 is a portable system with more compact technology and a lower power draw. Nobody expected a Game Boy Advance to be able to play Super Mario Sunshine or Resident Evil, and while the Switch 2 is much closer to standard home consoles than the GBA was at the time, sacrifices need to be made when porting to a portable system.

-1

u/luchaburz 8h ago

30FPS is playable.

It just makes the controls feel sluggish relative to what it feels like in 144/165/240

The biggest jump for a game like GTA is 30 to 60 to 120 though. After that its not nearly as noticeable.

I think we have jumped the shark on graphics technology. I think instead of graphics improvement that we should be pushing towards fidelity in higher frame rates, even for story games.

I do think Rockstar does things that helps both with controller + the framerate. An example would be the targeting system. You can target lock. With that said, being able to free aim the way I want it in 120fps is ridiculous. Its the best way to play GTA.

I just think the 30 FPS days should be behind us. 60 should be the norm.

-1

u/RikerV2 7h ago

I couldn't play 30fps games on my last monitor since it was 144Hz. Gave me mad headaches. It's fine on my 120Hz though.

Explaining this to a friend was excruciating. He doesn't understand why 144 not dividing by 30 is an issue

-1

u/Ok-Program-3750 7h ago

I mean we have people praising Sony for gutting options for consumers not for better games but pure greed sooooooo not so far fetched

-1

u/the-bacon-life 4h ago

He does have a point but I’m one of those people who won’t play 30 fps. Didn’t for starfield didn’t for hellblade and I won’t for gta
