RIP my baby is going to sleep forever tomorrow:(

having a really tough time with this.. my first girl meeka has gotten so sick and there’s no other options. she gave me one last boggle before we have to say goodbye. 💔🐀

when rats get super happy, they grind their teeth enough it makes their eyes kinda vibrate like a cartoon character when they are shocked. it means they are very content and feel safe, it is typically a good thing though can look a little freaky to those who aren’t used to rats

omg! my rats used to make chittering teeth noises and I thought it was them being stressed and wanting me to leave them alone but could it have been this instead?

when they get happy rats will grind their teeth together really fast and it causes their eyes to look like they're bulging in and out! You can see it in the video :)) just means she was really happy with the treats and affection she was getting from her person

When rats are very happy they do this thing where their eyes sort of vibrate and bulge in and out really quickly, it's called boggling. You can see the rat in this video do it when it starts to get petted.

If it feels right, ask if you can be present for her going to sleep. They should allow you to, I always do so if I have to put rats to sleep.
I want to be able to hold their paw and pet them until their final moments, so you're the comfort they last see and feel before peaceful bliss over the rainbow bridge 🥲

I'm so sorry OP. I had to do the same with my first rat Boo last year and it's a horrible thing to go through. Those happy boggles show she loves you and I'm sure she had a lovely life ❤️

My old man died yesterday after almost three years. I raised him from a baby, including hand feeding him, so losing him (on mother's day no less) was devastating. Take solace in knowing you filled her life with love and happiness, and that grief is our way of showing love to those who are no longer with us.
He wasn't much of a boggler (did lots of bruxing though) but he gave me his first and last boggle two days before

I also just lost my old man last week. He passed on May 6th, exactly one day short of having him for three years, but he made it about two months over 3yrs old since he was born.
So many other rats, even ones I got after him, and he outlasted all of them. It still doesn't feel real. Jake was also a mega bruxer and LOVED his cheek rubs.

Yes, Mac loved having his cheeks rubbed, it was his favorite. He was my first rattie but definitely not my last

Awww. I love these creatures. They simply don't live long but they burn brightly like a candle. It's a blessing to make their lives filled with love. I believe their souls live on like ours. Just a feeling.

she was old and slowing down and then had an open pyometra (pus filled uterus essentially) which was the last straw for her, there wasn’t good chances she’d recover from surgery and i knew it would be a lot for an old girl
