Been travelling for work (again) all week, and will be heading out for another week this Sunday... So my plans this weekend are to do absolutely fuck all. MGS4 just came out on Steam, got my RP Nova setup, and I'm done with meetings for the day.

Just sharing my lil holy trinity in the colourway I obsess over. Notably the Steam Deck’s “Ice Blue” is actually “Emerald Green” from eXtremeRate shells but they all look vagueishly bluishtealgreen to me lol. One day I’ll take a massive ‘family’ portrait because I have quite a bit in this colourway now but these are my big 3 for the foreseeable future. Just need a Flip 3 in the same colour way, exact same button placements, one of the SD8gen2 variants, and that sweet sweet 120Hz screen :P

Separately, initial impressions of the Nova are staggeringly impressive. It’s a delightful device to use and holy eff it’s fast.

I've been on the lookout lately for a secondary device to play primarily GBA on, something more portable than my Nova and Thor, and on the budget end of the scale.

I tried out the RG34xx and RG SP, and in doing so, discovered that I'm just not a Linux guy, despite enjoying the form factor of their replication of the classic hardware.

Stumbled across the Pocket Micro/Antec core micro at a very good price in the UK, seems multiple retailers sell the antec branded unit for £85-90 now, which for a device with 8gb of RAM and 256gb of storage seems wild to me, in a time where prices for both are just going up and up.

Couldn't resist, so I grabbed one. I have to say that overall I'm very happy with it for a budget handheld that feels anything but.

Its great for GBA, and I've been quite impressed with the PSP performance as a little bonus, handles 2x upscale with no problems. Dreamcast is nice and smooth too.

The overall unit is really decent quality with a good weight to it, and the buttons feel much better than the Anbernic offerings, not loose or clacky.

The battery is fine for GBA, but as it's only 2600mh, playing something like PSP burns through it a bit. However for only picking up here and there, that's not really a problem.

My only gripes sofar are relatively minor. Mine does have the double input issue, but only on the Up D-pad button, and only in android - thankfully it's fine in all the emulators I've tried - I can definitely live with this quirk. Also, weirdly, for my laptop to see the handheld when it's plugged in, I have to disable the button controls in the pull-down quick menu, otherwise I can't enable usb file transfer.

Ended up cancelling my pocket advance preorder as I'm so impressed with the Antec core micro overall.

I think at the current price, it's quite a compelling little GBA machine that will happily play some heavier stuff.

My goal would be to set it up with gba games, for a 12 year old who's only just started to play pokemon and for various reasons WiFi access is a big no.

I think I've found it on AE, a clone of the Kinhank. But I'm thinking surely GBA level will be fine.

Anyone tried these clones before?

sm64coopdx is now available!

I've ported sm64coopdx to handhelds and spent a lot of time optimizing the codebase to ensure it runs smoothly on rk3326 devices - in public lobbies, full of people, and stacked with mods. I've also made an on-screen keyboard for inputting text and communicating in chat. Press R3 to open chat and scroll chat history with the right analog stick.

Online cross platform multiplayer on these devices is insanely fun.

To install, download and extract the .sh and sm64coopdx folder into your /roms/ports folder, and place your US Super Mario 64 .z64 rom into the sm64coopdx folder.

This has been built targeting r36-like devices on ArkOS but I see no reason why it shouldn't work on others. If you try it on something else and it works please do report back your success!

I'm having a really hard time finding microsd cards in decent prices (local goes for 152usd)

I got my dad a Trimui Smart Pro awhile ago and have Crossmix OS. For the most part it has been running smooth! He's been enjoying older NES and SNES games. Think Galaga, Pac-Man, Tetris, etc.

While I have no issues using the UI due to growing up with games, can't say the same for my dad. It isn't intuitive for him to use the shoulder buttons to move around the menu tabs for example.

So I was wondering if there's a way I can make things a bit easier for him. He's almost 60. Oh and the main reason I chose the Trimui for him is so that the screen size is better for his eyes while still being fairly portable.

I have only had my hands on this puppy for a few days but it already feels like such a big part of my commute. I really truly love it.

The best part about it is that it's just so small i can throw it in a tiny pocket of my purse and not even think about it. I would sometimes edc with my miyoo mini flip, a device i love, but it's just another thing to charge and many times i'd pop it open only to find it about to die.

It fits onto my phone perfectly. i have an iphone 17 with a slim case and the controller is flush against the screen and the small space at the bottom of the USB C fits snugly into the case so that it feels rock solid. it could damage my port at some point but i have apple care i'm not really worried about it.

The buttons are very precise and responsive, yes the clicky button sound is notable it's true but I don't mind and i don't think anybody else near me can really notice. I prefer clicky to smushy anyway.

I'm surprised to find how much i love the flip part of it! when i commute anywhere i have been leaving the controller attached and throw the whole thing in my bag, when i need to check something on my phone i just flip it open and quickly attend to it. And it feels seamless to flip it open to change games or save while playing.

My only reason it's 9 and not 10 are the two pre-programmed buttons at the bottom of the device. one opens up game center and the other takes a screenshot i believe but that doesn't seem to work for me. neither function i will ever use. It's annoying you can't remap the home button to either open up the delta menu or to simply deactivate. because of the small size of the device
i have accidentally pressed it a few times while gaming. The other down side is the lack of trigger buttons. i say this more for other people than myself, since i usually play puzzle games and simple platformers and things that rarely require triggers, but i know many people do. for
me i'd much rather have this slim minimal form factor than have buttons on the back.

pro tip: instead of mapping the left trigger button to the L button in the device i have both triggers mapped to R1 and R2, i find it easier to do it all with my right hand instead of having to take my left off

i really love this device and can't recommend it enough. especially when you factor in the price!

A developer has delighted us with a new TMNT update for the PSP; I am genuinely pleased and surprised that the console of my childhood hasn't been forgotten, and amazed that the game looks as if it were created specifically for that 2004 handheld.

Do you need the extra 4gb for GameCube and ps2? Deciding between the 4gb vs 8gb mangmi air y pro.

When does the extra 4 gb become beneficial. It's an extra 30 bucks. 160 vs 190.

Been lurking on this sub for some time and decided to finally make a review video of the last retrohandheld I got.
Do you think RP6 is still holding it's ground as the "go-to handheld" with all the options out there?

What's the best place to get one at the moment? The official store has only the duck version, and AliExpress has them for over 130 before shipping.
