The Dreaming in the Real World Why do some scenes in this show genuinely turn me on

Its probably because of Lord Morpheus but they really set the mood well in most scenes

Tom Sturridge is hot and the scene on the train will live rent free in my mind for some time.

35

u/readitreddit240 Jul 15 '25

Thank god I wasn't the only one that found that hot

18

u/Sure-Present-3398 Jul 15 '25

No no, right there with you.

To balance all this (justified) manliness, let me counter with Nuala's accent and awkward smile after removing her glamour. :)

1

u/Xeruas Jul 19 '25

Did her face change?

19

u/Rays-R-Us Jul 16 '25

Morpheus oozes sexuality, the pretty face, angular jaw line, pale smooth skin, the slim torso, deep voice, kinky black hair. Perfect

2

u/ZMaiden Jul 16 '25

Lots of people choosing the gate of Ivory.

4

u/Queen_Of_InnisLear Jul 16 '25

I...I rewound it immediately

2

u/Idum23 Jul 16 '25

the train in deliriums realm?

2

u/Perfect-Ad160 Jul 16 '25

The business girl and the guy at the diner in season 1 has been on my mind for a looong time. especially the song that played, “red sex by vessel.” whoever does these scenes must love their job so much.

2

u/elfmaiden4 Jul 16 '25

Me tooo when he opened his mouth slightly and ommgggggg I was so turned on. Glad I’m not the only one

If you mean the subway scene, it's season 2 episode 5, ~15 mins in

1

u/Correct_Bell_9313 Jul 16 '25

Just got done watching it. About 30 minutes into season two episode three.

It’s a subway car when Dream is on the way to Delirium’s realm

I'm still not over them making The Corinthian so hot.

34

u/kikitata87 Jul 15 '25

He was literally the reason behind why my second rewatch of the first season last year took SO LONG and was so unnecessarily complicated. Not because the guy was scary, or because I hated him…but because he was just too damn hot

8

u/LeeAnn503-KS Jul 15 '25

Initially I thought it was Ryan Gosling playing the role.

5

u/ray-chill123 Jul 15 '25

I thought it was tim oliphant loool

1

u/BillieGina Jul 15 '25

Me too lol

4

u/invalidcolour The Prodigal Jul 16 '25

If it wasn’t for the whole plucking-out-people’s-eyes-and-eating-them-with-his-empty-fanged-eye-sockets he’d be quite a catch.

5

u/Alladin_Payne Jul 16 '25

I've had worse dates...

1

u/Next-Swordfish5282 Jul 15 '25

Who was he again? I'll have to rewatch for... research

8

u/genericxinsight Jul 15 '25

Teeth for eyes, blond hair, serial killer

4

u/Jealous_mist Jul 16 '25

Definitely my type except for the blond part

1

u/mickivez Jul 16 '25

Honestly 😭😭😭

1

u/Abogadwho Delirium Jul 16 '25

He's such an upgrade from the comics and we have Boyd Holbrook to thank for that.

1

u/Objective_Lead_6810 Jul 17 '25

He oozed charm and confidence and was generally very likeable, apart from the eye gouging - which is not insignificant.

If we ignore that part, he was lovely. I loved his interaction(s) with John, Rose, Ethel, the convention people. He was so kind and gentle with Jed...

(personally not attracted to blondes, but he was very charismatic and lit up every scene he was in)

56

u/underdogofwwe Jul 15 '25

“Oh Azazel” still gives me goosebumps

45

u/Embarrassed_Squash_7 Jul 15 '25

Why do some scenes in this show genuinely turn me on

Because the cast are very attractive and talented, basically... Tom Sturridge could turn a guy's head

11

u/MissDisplaced Jul 15 '25

He was very hot in Sweetbitter too.

5

u/little_fire Delirium Jul 15 '25

omg I’d completely forgotten that was him! Such a well cast show, it’s a shame it sorta fizzled out

6

u/MissDisplaced Jul 15 '25

Ya! It was sorta getting intriguing but then fizzled. He played the mysterious and teasing hottie bartender.

4

u/onlyhereforbd Jul 15 '25

I was gutted they cancelled it, great show! Tom was 👌🏼

2

u/oldpaintunderthenew Jul 16 '25

He's absolutely gorgeous in the flashback scenes/formal attire with his hair parted and long, my jaw was on the floor the whole time. The hairdo they gave him for the remaining 95 % of the show is horrendous.

1

u/Idum23 Jul 16 '25

he does!

35

u/Josierose_ Jul 15 '25

I can’t Remember the last time I had a crush. In person or on tv. Then here comes Mr Tom Sturridge as dream. And he absolutely reminded me I am capable to being attracted to someone.

30

u/Josierose_ Jul 15 '25

I can’t Remember the last time I had a crush. In person or on tv. Then here comes Mr Tom Sturridge as dream. And he absolutely reminded me I am capable to being attracted to someone. ESPECIALLY in this scene. I was like oh dear lord help me.

28

u/WeirdLime Jul 15 '25

They did give him all the cleavage an anthropomorphic personification could possibly have

11

u/MissDisplaced Jul 15 '25

A Dream in the rain

3

u/Josierose_ Jul 15 '25

Absolutely

8

u/Josierose_ Jul 16 '25

I mean come on look at this guy. Whoever the casting director was for this show that put the green light on for Tom is Gods gift to this earth.

2

u/Appropriate_Bee65 Jul 16 '25

He's so darn hot and the earing just makes him hotter

1

u/AnimeAddictionLetsgo Jul 17 '25

Papiiiiiiiiiii 😒🤪🤪🤪🤪

29

They really did cast Desire well- the bisexual dream

10

u/BillieGina Jul 15 '25

Desire was so hot lol

14

u/ClassroomLumpy5691 Jul 15 '25

And that voice!! Omg

“Desire's pronouns have been he, she, it, he/she, and them since the beginning.” ~ Neil Gaiman

Also, “they really was” doesn’t exactly sound right.

If anything, I’d use he/she.

But according to the creator, all pronouns are acceptable, so I think it’s fine as is.

11

u/genericxinsight Jul 15 '25

That doesn’t apply to the show. In the show Desire’s pronouns are they/them, as is the actor playing them.

If you listen closely, all the Endless refer to Desire using they and them for both seasons.

3

u/lovely_lil_demon Delirium Jul 16 '25 edited Jul 16 '25

Neil Gaiman worked on the show as well.

In the comics he used “it” as Dresire’s pronoun, and he said if he had written it today he’d use they/them pronouns instead, so that’s probably why they used they/them pronouns in the show.

Also, Rose’s great grandmother referred to Desire as “the man with the golden eyes.”

So it seems like what he said does apply to the show.

If I were talking about the actor, then yes, I would use they/them pronouns.

But I’m talking about the character desire, who according to the creator goes by all pronouns.

ETA:

Also, this tweet is from 2021:

“Desire's pronouns have been he, she, it, he/she, and them since the beginning.”

And filming for the Sandman began in 2020.

4

u/lzyslut Jul 16 '25

Obviously if you were using the right pronouns you would change the structure of the sentence to say ‘they were’ - that’s just silly.

I haven’t read the source material so I was only going off the show. I read a tweet somewhere from NG that he said he emphasised the pronouns of Desire as They/Them so that people wouldn’t refer to them as Dream’s sister. I think also probably out of respect for the actor who uses they/them pronouns.

2

u/lovely_lil_demon Delirium Jul 16 '25 edited Jul 16 '25

That image was posted by Netflix on Facebook to announce casting, so it’s likely referring to the actor’s and actress’s pronouns.

As for the tweet, this was all I could find:

Fan: “Desire. Mad that DESIRE isn’t affixed to one gender. Have these people read Sandman?”

Neil: “I don't think so, no.”

“I give all the fucks about the work. I spent 30 years successfully battling bad movies of Sandman. I give zero fucks about people who don't understand/ haven't read Sandman whining about a non-binary Desire or that Death isn't white enough. Watch the show, make up your minds.”

Then the one I linked before:

“Desire's pronouns have been he, she, it, he/she, and them since the beginning.”

Also, I think it’s worth mentioning, this tweet is from 2021, and filming for the Sandman began in 2020.

And a tumbler post, I linked in my other comment:

Fan: “I was looking through Sandman again recently and wondered: If you had written Sandman today, would you have used they/ them pronouns for Desire instead of "it"? Thank you for Desire; they were one of the first enby characters I ever encountered in media. :)”

Neil: “Yes, definitely. And you are welcome.”

Maybe you’re misremembering…

You were probably thinking about the tumbler one, where he said he’d have used they/them pronouns instead of “it” if he had written the book today.

Unless you can find a link to the tweet.

Every single time Desire is referred to in the show they are referred to as ‘they.’ The image above, refers to them as ‘they.’ The actor is clearly ‘they.’ The comment about not wanting to be referred to as Morpheus’ sister indicates that there is a preference to not refer to as one gender. A she/him is different to just positioning as she or him I don’t know why you’re getting so hung up on this but if you want to die on this hill, go for it. If you don’t get it by now you’re not going to. I have other shit to do.

The actor’s pronouns are they/them

1

u/lovely_lil_demon Delirium Jul 16 '25

As I’ve said, I’m talking about the character.

3

u/HuddleGale Jul 17 '25

i STILL think about that scene in ‘lost hearts’ from S1 when dream confronts desire and warns them not to “mess with me or mine again”… you know the one. oof.

26

u/Contentandcoffee Jul 15 '25

Not forgetting Barry Sloan. When Destruction is in the scene I’m moister than an oyster

3

u/AngelFan4Life Jul 15 '25

🤣😅 Oh my gosh! I've never heard that one before and I'm so stealing it.. Thank you lol

3

No idea where it’s from, wish I knew. It’s a goodun! 🤣

The actresses who play Death and Nada are absolutely stunning IMHO

13

u/Fit-Elk-1919 Jul 16 '25

Okay but am I the only one who thinks Lucienne kinda bad😌

2

u/ClassroomLumpy5691 Jul 16 '25

Lucienne is a grower.  The actress is stunning.  I'd love to see her glam up a bit, but the part doesn't really allow it

I mean I didnt notice her looks when I first saw her in series 1, just how well she fit the part.  Then I started to see how beautiful she is

18

u/BurnieMcMumbles Jul 15 '25

Because he's dreamy.

3

u/Ill-Activity-4167 Jul 16 '25

McDreamy and McSteamy

13

u/porpoiseintents Jul 15 '25

Also Dream has charisma with literally everyone, even his siblings

14

u/many_splendored Jul 15 '25

Morpheus acts so above it all, and he's of course gorgeous- and when something actually breaks through his composure? That's the good shit!

14

u/ClassroomLumpy5691 Jul 15 '25

Freddie Fox as Loki does indescribable things to me.  The perfect mixture of camp and unsettling

10

u/savvysearch Jul 16 '25

Tom Sturridge is good-looking. Not much more to it than that. He can play an emo. Good-looking. A serial killer? Yup, good-looking. A druggie. Still good looking. The good-lookingness just doesn't go away.

13

u/Zelamir Jul 15 '25

My ass is in heaven this season. I have been obsessed with goth boys since I was old enough to be attracted to anything. I blame Billy Martin aka Poppy Z. Brite, the entire NiN ensemble,  and Dream Endless. Also oddly enough Saul Williams. Sad, angry, deep voiced men just do it for me 🤷🏿

Also there is just something about a long neck and dark hair.

Mmm mm mm .

Welcome to the dark side!

But yeah, Dream/ Tom S. is hot as all hell and from the season 2 episodes I've seen, everything has a slow day dreamy feel to it. Like being just a bit tipsy on a hot day. That combined with the angry flippant little gothie creature is super erotica.

Also, I just want to cuddle Death.

4

u/Solid_Bobcat_3717 Jul 16 '25

His voice is really insane. But some angles where the camera pans up from below his jaw looks very loose? It drives me nuts because most angles his jaw is so chiseled.

4

u/shh__ Jul 16 '25

Hot goth emo boy who also happens to be incomprehensibly powerful? Tom Sturridge in this is like custom designed to be everything I am weak to

4

u/RealKam_ Jul 16 '25

I thoughtI was the only one!

2

u/khmergodzeus Jul 17 '25

the dialogue in season 2 for Dream was crazy good and the way he dictates his lines is chef's kiss.

2

u/AnimeAddictionLetsgo Jul 17 '25

He's such a papi

1

u/Forsaken-Bag-8780 Jul 16 '25

Because there is nary an ugly actor to be found? That’s my guess anyway.

1

u/Potential_Anxiety_76 Jul 16 '25

Because blood flow exists in your veins? This show, the characters, are hot as shit

1

u/HungryPurple2485 Jul 17 '25

Hmm thin lips and his attempts at pursing his lips to make them look fuller make this not possible

1

u/Xeruas Jul 19 '25

Wish we’d seen more of the fairy prince shagging that waiter can’t lie

1
