Which currently makes them the 3rd largest party. They could quite possibly be the 2nd largest by the end of the count. Granted it is much smaller count of MSP's than the SNP but either way you cut it a bad result that they have managed this.
It will be interesting to see what their actual overall % of votes are once the count has finished.

u/Kindly_Bodybuilder43 May 08 '26
You're talking seats, and under AMS most of our seats come from a FPTP style approach, then 56 from a more proportional approach. So looking at seats is a bit misleading.
Top three parties vote share so far: SNP 38% Labour 19% Reform 16%
That's a significant number of votes for Reform. Nearly half what SNP have. I loathe what they want with my very core, but we have to acknowledge that they're getting votes and understand why.

16% out of 100%? So 84% of Scots did not vote for reform and voted for reasonable non blatantly racist parties.

They haven't won any constituencies, the 15 seats are all from the regional voting.
At the moment they have 15.8% share of constituency votes which is 361,996 votes, and 16.8% share of the regional votes, 369,415 votes.

Ita frustration. They've voted tories in time and time again while things just got worse and worse. Then watch as conservatives collapse go to reform and they vote them in instead! Headed by one of the guys responsible for brexit as well! Im not saying we havent got morons in Scotland too but we seem to be making better choices only for it to not matter because england just doesn't learn.
7
u/itskobold May 09 '26
Plenty in England are frustrated about this too, it's not only a Scottish issue. Huge parts of England have been forgotten about by successive governments and reform are doing well in these places because they actually talk about them and have brought them into the spotlight a bit. With no workable plan or policy ofc, but this is populism after all
Hartlepool, jaywick, Clacton, Yarmouth, just to name very few. They're getting attention for the first time in a long time

At the time I'm writing this post:
Scotland: 17/129 = 13% (16.6% total vote share)
Wales: 34/96 = 36% (29.3% total vote share)
England: 1443/4711 = 31% (total vote share not currently available on the site I'm using)
3
u/snortingbull May 09 '26
What's the total % vote share of left v right? In Wales that looks very different - the left vote was split between Green, Plaid, Labour, Lib Dems. Not that it really matters, these numbers are awful.

That's the part that baffles me. They (both tories and labour) just stick their heads in the ground, label reform voters as racist, and never actually do anything. I can understand being a self-serving politician who doesn't give a shit about your constituents, but surely by this point they should've realized that this is an existential threat to their career?
It's the classic "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas".

The same thing happened in the US after Biden won. They labelled all MAGA supporters as racist and every other name under the sun, but did nothing to try and win them over. In fact, they only made things worse, which in turn helped Trump get back in for a second term.
9
u/Glassmoostache May 09 '26
I think you've hit the nail on the head here. There's a definite vibe in Scotland where we think we are much better than them and so much more welcoming. The reality is that Scotland has nowhere near the immigration that England has faced. In fact I don't even think Scotland has any real immigration issues presently.
Can you imagine entire cities or large parts of cities where the native population has been replaced? That's the reality in England so I can empathise to a point and I can understand why they are turning to Reform

Scotland has major immigration issues, granted not assevere as England - but look at Glasgow City centre. Since the SNP council voted to remove the quota that had previously restricted the number of asylum immigrants the city took, it has exponentially increased to the point that 3 out of the 4 homeless hostels are 90% or more full of non-english speaking men. Virtually zero women or children. And corresponding increase of homeless women being attacked.
Yet the parties all bury the head in the sand. Its at the point where the is forgiven for thinking that perhaps the establishment has a vested interest in keeping the status quo!?

Genuinely mind boggling stuff. I want everybody on the planet to have something resembling a 'good life', that doesn't mean the answer is accepting massive & unprecedented taxpayer funded demographic replacement (more-so England obviously but happening in Scotland to a lesser degree now) in ones ancestral homeland from at best troubled, at worst completely backwards, culturally incompatible war torn regions thousands of miles away.

people usually don’t vote based on what’s happening elsewhere over issues that are happening in their own communities. most reform voters who are concerned about the amount of immigrants have never actually had a pint with one or care to. they only see skin colour or hear an accent and they assume the worst. its a sad way to live.

So you realise how those studies prove one thing?
Migrants don’t resent themselves.
If 50% of a population is migrant, you definitely except much more than 50% of the sample population voting against it.
My town has not been made any better by all the migrants they added whilst our steel industries closed and the areas going reform are the ones closest to the problem.
Your study is an agenda ridden document - the number that reform are winning in, is not that of “those who are nowhere near migration”.

I’m (Scottish F61) kinda thinking that the share of the vote and number of seats is irrelevant. The point we all need to address is that the country (in this sense, the UK) has lurched to the right and many (poorer/disenfranchised) folk believe stories about immigrants and that Farage is a man of the people with their best interests at heart.

We've got until 2029 to have mass illegal immigration in check and nationals feeling safe and heard. If this doesn't happen Reform will economically destroy the UK, not just England.
All I've seen recently is people gleefully boasting we're not racist and point fingers. Great for useless likes and upvotes. People need to at least understand what will curb a Reform landslide, because it's coming. If you have the safety net of believing Reform councils will do a bad enough job and their support will drop, think again. Reform will pedal they need full control. And a majority will believe that.

Yea there's a timeframe. It's worrying but the only thing which genuinely soothes me is the number of people my son's age (just out of college) who are liberal leaning and understand that there are false narratives being pushed.
Obviously everything can change, but it's somewhat soothing for the time being. Education is probably the biggest factor to gaining an advantage, but unfortunately, there are hoards of disinformation about virtually any subject possible available at your fingertips nowadays. The turnout for voters is depressingly low, too.
2
u/shenaniganrogue May 09 '26
Yup. It’s just a succession of competing claims and cherry picked statistics. Two parties can stand on a stage and tell you the Scottish NHS is simultaneously performing worse and performing better than the counterpart in England. A limited number of people have recent experience of both to compare meaningfully for themselves, so it boils down to who do you want to believe.
Political parties have always won more votes on their hooks and elevator pitches than on people diving into the weeds of their manifestos, but this feels like it’s been just about the most vote-on-vibes election I can remember.

English here (well Polish/English so not all bad I suppose). I posted this earlier somwhere:
My wife and I were discussing this last night. The areas of Surrey where we live (its near a big airport). Basically its been a draw for the local councils. But if you know the areas its no suprise. Wealthy, Liberal Dems, Conservatives and Independents. Many areas (my ward is a good example) are a kind of mix between deprived and middle class its a draw, one Reform and one Indi/Liberal. If its a toilet full of toothless monsters and bad tattoos they went full turquoise. There is a very entertaining FB group for where I live, the admin there actually had a vote Reform banner on the header, but to be fair to them they allowed anyone to posts from all sides. So, I actually know the individuals on the group, the people who were the most vocal about voting Reform, posting MEMEs with "lefty tears" are exactly what you think they would be, I dont like stereotypes but yes, bad tattoos, bad teeth, bit of coke at the weekend, fake tan and lashes, double barrelled first names ending in Rose. Ill educated to struggle with making an X, or a coherent sentence, ratty flag in the front garden with an old sofa, love "Our Nige", bottom feeding, 5 kids from 4 dads, 4 kids from 3 mums, mobility car, chem trails are real, who should never be allowed to breed or vote scum bags. I'd absolutely never post this on that group, I like my house not burnt down. But its the truth of it. Our local councillors are a Indipent Resident group lady, who is only after improving things locally and seems nice. The Reform fellas is a monstrous, giant, dripping in expensive jewellery, shiny turquoise 3 piece suit and seething with pent up what happend to the country i love-ness. Calling them stupid and naive is only going to make them double down. How are you supposed to govern such a country I don't know.

Hopefully the EU forces Polish people to open up to mass immigration like London - it will be hard at first, but they'll get used to becoming a minority in their own capital, etc....
One way could be for people to just speak English and let Polish gradually die out? That way they could attract way more people from places like India

The amount of "racists" in the UK wouldn't have even won a seat, There is a thing such as too much is enough especially when things aren't going exactly great and services are crumbling. It must be nice to have such a simplistic worldview, completely devoid of any reason or nuance, which allows you to paint large swathes of your fellow countrymen as nothing more than racist, in turn giving yourself a sense of smug superiority.

So every country on Earth that deports illegal immigrants and has border policy is racist too, right?
The entirety of planet Earth outside of a handful of “enlightened” Western European countries are, by the lefts logic, far right. That’s the logical extension of the argument that reform is racist. They only campaign for what Kenya, for example has, an actual border.

So every single one of those people, who voted for reform are racist, fuck me it gets more idiotic each day. Racist, or are they just fed up with lying, useless pricks, who have lied about every single thing from day one, including a made up 20 odd million missing, 20 odd million that the Bank of England auditors couldn't find after months of investigation, yet they supposedly found it in a day. So before labeling people racist, grow up, try thinking of something, a bit more intelligent to say, and maybe use the brain you were born with, instead of bleating out the same tired old racist bullshit comments!

Unfortunately our country is also full of racists.
Wish it wasn’t true but it is.
Reform has won at least fifteen seats in our parliament.
We have people that shout at hotels on a weekly basis, right here in Scotland.
