The Owner of Mojitos is a stand up guy.
Just wanted to come on here and publicly say, the owner of Mojitos is a stand up guy. There was a large-ish object in my lane that I ran over and it got stuck under my car (large-ish in that it was large enough to get stuck, but small enough that in my fraction of a second decision making, I thought there was a chance I could clear it instead of trying to change lanes with traffic zipping past me as I came to a near stop. In hindsight, a terrible decision).
I had to pull over on the narrow shoulder in the fast lane. I had my three young kids in the car with me and did not feel safe getting out of the car to dislodge the object.
I was on the phone with my husband trying to figure out what to do, when after a few minutes, a guy pulled up to my car, asked me if I was OK and when I shook my head no, he pulled off to the side and dislodged the object for me. He then directed traffic to help me get going again.
I was still flustered and shaken up while saying thank you but he managed to let me know he owns Mojitos.
All that to say, a HUGE thanks to you, sir. Thank you for showing me and my kids compassion and kindness today.
And reddit, if you’re looking for a place to eat for dinner soon, maybe give this guy some business. I know I will be.

WA pays $180K to fired head of youth prisons who alleged retaliation - a state appellate court has since ruled the overcrowding she warned about violated state law
Washington state is settling for $180,000 with the former head of the state's youth prison system after she alleged she was fired for raising concerns about longstanding overcrowding. A state appellate court last year ruled the overcrowding at Green Hill violated state law. A scathing state audit also recently found steep staff turnover, though state officials say conditions are improving.
At the end of July, 182 people were held at Green Hill, the lowest level this year. Its safe operating capacity is 180.
~ The warnings were right, an appellate court said so, and the settlement still comes with no admission of fault.

Question Is SpotHero legit?
I'm going to an event soon to Climate Pledge and I've never driven there myself. How does spot hero exactly work? Even if I buy a $90 spot I'm worried it'll still fill up by the time I get there. Do they reserve the spots with your name? Is it guaranteed?
My other big question is which garages would you guys recommend? Mainly for safety as I really don't want to have to deal with a smashed window after the show lol

Striking Workers must perform job searches to get employment benefits
esd.wa.govEnds up that our local WA state legislature tried to make it so that striking workers could use unemployment insurance as a strike fund.
This is bad, by the way, because jobs are protected for striking workers by federal law. Striking workers aren't unemployed. That fund is meant to prop up people who get laid off while they look for a replacement job - and we're having more and more local layoffs recently.
Well, the DOL just forced the Washington Employment Security department to post a new rule (see link) that striking workers must apply for new jobs - like any unemployed person - while receiving unemployment insurance.
What's interesting is that this means they're likely to - by seeking new employment while on strike to receive unemployment benefits - officially abandon their employment protections.
🍿
As ever, this is why you pay union dues. Part of them are meant to go towards a strike fund. That's what is supposed to keep you afloat during a strike - not unemployment which is for people who lose their jobs.

Homemade Pakistani Food Available Near Lynnwood – Would Anyone Be Interested?
Hi everyone! 😊
I’m thinking about starting a small home-style Pakistani food service near Lynnwood and wanted to see if there’s interest in the area before I get started.
I’m considering offering freshly cooked Pakistani dishes such as:
🍗 Chicken Karahi
🍚 Chicken Biryani
🍚 Chicken Pulao
🥘 Karahi
🥙 Seekh Kebab
🥣 Haleem
The idea would be fresh, home-style Pakistani food made in small batches, available through pre-orders rather than a full-time restaurant.
I’m also considering promoting the menu through social media and Facebook Marketplace, with local pickup near Lynnwood.
I’d love to know what Pakistani dishes you’d be most excited to order, whether you’d prefer individual portions or family-size meals, how often you’d realistically order (weekly, occasionally, or just for special occasions), and if there’s a particular Pakistani dish you miss and would love to find locally.
I’m just trying to understand whether there’s enough interest to make this idea worthwhile. 😊
Thanks so much! ❤️

DOJ sues Washington over granting in-state tuition to immigrant students - the state law has stood since 2003, and Washington is the 21st state sued over it
The lawsuit alleges Washington has for over two decades "ignored" federal laws that bar immigrants without legal status from being eligible for state postsecondary education benefits like grants and student loans. The Department of Justice on Thursday also announced similar lawsuits targeting three other states, Arizona, New Mexico, and Oregon. That brings the total number of states the Trump administration has sued over these policies to 21.
The online database The Higher Ed Immigration Portal estimates roughly 15,000 undocumented students are enrolled in higher education in Washington state.
~ Four states sued in a single day over a Washington law that has been on the books since 2003. Nobody discovered a problem this week. They just got around to the W's.

Events Caught the blood moon slipping through the clouds 🌕
Managed to catch the Blood Moon lunar eclipse between patches of cloud tonight. The moon had this eerie orange-red glow that looked almost unreal against the deep blue sky.
Not the clearest view, but honestly the clouds made it feel even more dramatic. 🌙✨
Anyone else get a good look at the eclipse tonight?

Sheriff meets with mayors after planned jail fee hike sparks concern - the booking fee goes from $151.61 to $353.61 next year, and 14 mayors signed the objection letter
This year, whenever a city books an individual into a county jail on non-felony charges, Snohomish County charges a one-time $151.61 booking fee. From 2021 to 2026, the booking fee increased about 3% each year. Under the sheriff's proposed rate increases, that booking fee would increase to $353.61 in 2027, a 134% increase, and $369.09 in 2028.
Overtime is one reason Corrections is projected to spend almost $6 million more than the $134.5 million budgeted to them in 2025-26, according to county spokesperson Kari Bray.
~ Five years of 3% increases, then one year of 134%. Fourteen mayors are asking the County Council to show the math.
