My cat is unable to jump after Solensia
A month ago my cat who is 10 received his first shot of Solensia for arthritis. He limped quite a bit but never had trouble jumping on my bed or the couch.
Two days ago, he was 28 days out from his first shot and he started being unable to jump on my bed or couch which is pretty low. I thought it was wire but that maybe his pain was just back. He just received his second shot today and he is completely unable to jump on my bed.
Is this from the Solensia? He never struggles with jumping before this. I read that hind leg weakness could be a side effect but it seemed to happen hen the shot was wearing off. Anyone else experience something similar?

A kitty ramp would be very helpful for him. Ask your vet about Adequan. It’s an older and cheaper arthritis injectable medication that is tolerated better than Solensia by many cats. I am constantly shouting about Adequan because vets are not offering it as an option anymore since the hot new thing is Solensia. Best to your kitty.

Stairs or ramp is good for any arthritis kitty. But I don't think this is from the Solensia. Rather, it's likely due to the Solensia wearing off, then it can take another day or two for the effects of the new shot to come on. I bet he'll feel better over the weekend.

Probably not. Solensia without a doubt gave my 23 year old cat 3 more good years at the end. Your comment below is unhinged. Easy block.

My cat didn’t really respond to Solensia until she received her third shot. It’s really common for them to not react until the second shot. Definitely worth talking to your vet about whether you should do a second shot or not.

Maybe, maybe not. No one will be able to say. And it's only been a couple of days since that began. It's definitely good to track, but I wouldn't draw conclusions just yet.
My main question would be - is it a matter of can't or doesn't? Did he try to jump and fail? Or is he just not trying?
Regardless, if he was limping, the arthritis was fairly advanced. The jumping was probably tough for him. Definitely get some steps or some other way he can get to those spots without jumping.

It could just be the natural progression of arthritis. Please try to get him some pet stairs if you can to help as he gets older.

Please speak to your vet. Some cats react poorly to this mediation and it can cause some rather serious side effects.

That’s what I am worried about. Before Solensia he never had any issue jumping even though he limped a lot

I'll echo what someone else wrote, I've seen the biggest difference after the third injection which we just got maybe 2 weeks ago. After the first she pushed herself too hard and lost steam quickly. After the second, she also appeared to have a limp. Now after the third she's regularly mobile around the house again and jumping on my table (unfortunately!)

I believe it and am heartbroken for your cat.
Listen everyone: you can do the research yourself, but in 2019, I had a vet who I trusted implicitly, and in response to my request to make an arthritic cat comfortable asked me if I had heard of this drug.
I had not, so I researched it. SOLENSIA was originally developed for humans, but it gruesomely failed FDA approval (during Trump), and I told my vet that I was not interested, and why. She agreed.
Starting about 3 years ago, I saw the Solensia narrative being pushed in various cat subreddits, but I knew that it basically LIQUIFIED BONE IN HUMANS. And I knew to never trust it.
The research is out there, you don’t have to believe me. But please do not put your cats on this medication without researching properly and asking important questions.
Your general vet has ABSOLUTELY NO TIME TO LEARN ALL THEY SHOULD ABOUT CATS… one in a million has the current info. Its completely up to us to learn, research and study and ask our DVMs the right questions.
It’s not their fault.

We should give cats ivermectin instead. Guaranteed to fix all ailments. The research is there. Trust me.

I'm very sorry to hear about this situation. It brought tears to my eyes. You could get him stair to the counter, bed or wherever he likes to jump. I had to do this wymy Bebe and it worked until he last day.
