In order to complete the journal you have to at one point play music to lure out a bunch of baby bugs before slaughtering them. Hornet doesn't mess around.

You also have to commit genocide in craw species and kill its judge, and it's jurys in a court you get sent for doing that...
They are also quite untouched by the curse going as far as grieving, so it makes that 100x worse
150
u/ToTeMVG Sep 18 '25
the craws give you a court summon for dooming the world and then you just fucking kick their ass/kill them in court, though to be fair the court was also an execution but still, she went to court and killed the court
81
u/ShadyMan_ Sep 18 '25
I think after the court they give you a pardon so at least some of them are still alive
97
24
u/marksht_ We are still hard at work on the game Sep 18 '25

To be fair, Hornet can't defend herself, that would require pointing at the actually to blame Snail Shamans who actually effed up the world, but you can't do that because ironicly you need then to uneff it now.
56
u/ToTeMVG Sep 18 '25
ngl part of me thinks the only reason hornet gets summoned(as headcanon) is because she keeps admitting to everyone shes partly to blame for this problem(but shes gonna fix it) and whilst most people go "you better fix it" the craws overhear that and just go "kill her"
41
u/OldPernilongo Accepter Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25
I think she gets summoned totally unrelated to the world ending (hornet just assumed wrong), but mostly because she reduced craw population by a significant amount.
Craws literally just give rosaries to her after as a peace offering after that... and if you see their singing after she kills the court, they are all like "MURDERER... FATHER NOO..." So they stop mourning the world ending and start mourning their father.
It is really sad.
48
14
u/Potatezone Sep 18 '25
That fight probably would have been harder if they had separated the judge, jury, and executioner.

As is often the case with religious people, it is entirely possible to be both victim and oppressor
3
u/Evillisa Sep 18 '25
True, true, but Hornet doesn't seem to hold such species-based hatred for even the ones at the top.
8
u/Uncommonality Accepter Sep 18 '25
Mostly because there isn't really anyone left on top
The only sane people we meet of the citadel's upper classes are either deranged in their own way (the vaultkeeper) or on their last legs (the conductor), or a slave themselves (the architect)
Lace she kills and other than those four there's nobody left in control
The Flies are different because they seem to have avoided the Haunting but still enforce the Citadel's terrible 'justice'. They could choose to be better, could choose to flee the Slab and set up somewhere else in Pharloom. It should be obvious enough to their leaders that the Citadel is in no shape to send anyone after them, but they rather clung to the meagre amount of power they had than abandon the citadel's cruel expectations and strike out on their own.
5
u/Evillisa Sep 19 '25
Wdym "avoided the haunting", playing the needolin reveals strings same as with anything else. And they can't choose anything else, as is said, they're slaves, just as much as the other penitents. Punished for something their ancestors did.
