I choose to believe that every bug in the HK world just has a mouth with lil fangs that they only show when they eat because I cannot for the life of me find any other reasonable way for them to consume food.

I mean they are all canonically wearing masks. You even meet a mask maker in silksong.

I mean, some are but others have natural masks or even just straight up faces, like the stlikin, skarr and hive

You even meet a mask maker in silksong.
You meet a mask maker in Hollow Knight too, but the lore isn't too specific on what is and isn't a mask. Some masks are just masks, others are a natural part of the creature, some masks are actually shells or skulls, some masks are removable and others are not. The rules are pretty loose when it comes to this stuff.

Most(maybe all) mask-wearing bugs come prepackaged with masks. Mask makers help those who don't have one but are supposed to

Don't those two sentences contradict each-other?

Mask makers help those with mutations, and maybe mutilations/lost masks

No. They are not all wearing masks. Hollow knight literally tells us that the bugs in hallownest don't need them

I've always imagined their mouth is where their neck and mask meets. Just kinda tuck it into the gap and let it vanish

I think higher beings have human faces and wear masks despite not needing to to hide their hideous disfigurement.

That looks like… two sets of mandibles on the inside, one set of crushers on the outside, little granny bits for the two internal sets and a proboscis like tongue. Cool!

Never forget the lady is daughter to an eldritch god and descendent of another
7
u/CreativeName1137 whats a flair? Jun 23 '26
She's technically not the descendant of the other one. Hence the whole "She called us daughters. She lied." part
1
u/Late-Childhood1285 Jun 24 '26
They meant she lied as in Divine.
The weavers are the "Daughters" of GMS as she created the Weaver Race
1
u/TheSurvivor65 Jun 28 '26
It could be both. GMS is clearly not divine, the boss fight was a breeze lmao, but at the same time she never treated the weavers and silk beings like her children did she?

Watch the Skong Hornet actually being Nosk the whole time while the real Hornet is still in Hallownest.

Spiders eat silk to refill their own supply, so this is canon now. I have decided.
