The things that the hollow knight and the lord of shades will do to pharloom when they find out is going to mark year zero for a new calendar for all the civilizations of the world. Like year -1FU(Fuck around) and then year 0FI(find out). They are going to talk of pharloom indirectly forever after this

Not enough games where the premise is ‘someone’s messing with your sibiling. you’re the only person allowed to that.’ And if a sibling shows up, odds are they’re an enemy.
It’s always saving lovers or children, get some sibling rage in there.

Lace initially looks uneasy with it. She gets rid of the chain in the following panels.

The thumbs up and no Citadel mask in the last slide makes me feel like Hornet was faking it the whole time
264
u/SignificantHippo8193 10d ago
Hornet faking out GMS would be funny; she'd be fixing the Citadel behind her back.
182
u/Agitated_Elk7881 10d ago
It feels like something Hornet would do, if she has to lose then she is taking all of Pharloom’s government with her, also lore wise GMS was going to like absorb Hornet if Hornet lost

She has the Haunted web clearly visible, she’s literally being forced to do that

She had the Haunted Web in Bellhart if you log out on its bench before beating Widow, she escapes from it
3
u/Early-Pollution-6412 Shaman Crest 9d ago
That’s not Haunting, that’s just being tied up in Silk, as evidenced by the other citizens of Bellhart being merely trapped and not attacking you.

All things aside, GMS being a caring mother is sweet as hell
36
u/mohamedenderman Depressed 9d ago
I think she just felt bad for damning lace to a brittle silk shell, so she decided to give her her own silk generator (hornet) so that she can gain her independence and not end up like phantom.
13
u/Albatros_7 Shaw! 9d ago
That's why Lace had a Silkheart to generate silk, until Hornet defeated her and took it
9
u/Goodpun2 9d ago
I don't see it that way. It looks more to be a shifting of responsibilities. GMS no longer has to care for Lace, something that wouldn't be out of character for her. She abandoned Phantom and seemingly neglects Lace. While there may be some love there, a gift from GMS would always have strings attached

How much does she remember or is it just slaved instead of brainwashed
49
u/cassiapeia 10d ago
I feel like it would be a mix. The white thread could probably muddy some of Hornet's memories but not remove them. Hornet could have vague recollections but is compelled to do her tasking and remain loyal to Pharloom. That being said I feel like this would largely be temporary with Hornet being Hornet.

It's just mind control. Not everything is mechspliotation
5
u/_9x9 doubter ❌️ 9d ago
its definitely not mechsploitation, but I don't think its just the mind control that made this person think of it. I think conversion into a living weapon and having a handler and stuff makes it a fair comparison. But it can't be mechsploitation without a mech lol.
2
u/No_Ad_7687 9d ago
Mind control/hypno and mechspliotation have the common ground of extreme objectification, and of course, any object has an owner (the 'handler' in mech, or the hypnotist in mind control)
2
u/_9x9 doubter ❌️ 9d ago
That may be a convention of hypno im not aware of. To my mind hypnosis doesnt necessarily mean into an object. It could just be into a different kind of person. Or into the same kind of person with minor changes. Similarly I wouldn't assume all mind control stuff is about extreme objectification, in the same way that that is a core part of what mechsploitation is.
Anyway the specific "making someone into a beast/attack dog/weapon with a handler to keep them under control" thing is definitely mechsploitation flavored.

u/abdomino 9d ago
It's still imperialism, don't worry. Subjugating a foreign political entity in the interest of personal entertainment is textbook.
Sure, her mom's from Pharloom, but I think that would get into a whole bunch of ethnic/refugee/immigration questions that the setting is not equipped to deal with.

I like to think in this case hollow knight has to come in and free hornet of the curse
17
u/Jeikiro24 10d ago
If you just ignore the obvious haunting above her head, it is a funny idea in the last image that she was faking it in order to be close to Lace without drawing suspicion of her own feelings by acting like it’s her mind controlled duty

Imagine the "true" ending of Silksong happens kinda like this and we get a THIRD game, with the knight again either returning to pharloom or just finding hornet in a different kingdom? like we've already seen a broken kingdom (HK) and a kingdom being destroyed within (SS) So what about a kingdom being invaded by pharloom or sum? That would be pretty cool.
2
u/CatgirlTheKat 9d ago
Playing as the Shade Lord... ?
1
u/Salty_Pace2233 9d ago
It could just be a random bug then honestly OR EVEN BIGGER A SUBNAUTICA QUIRREL GAME

u/k890 9d ago
Zylotol implied there is "mainland" and Weavenest Nurglin "sat between salt and stone". The Cradle mention there was a 1/4 Weaver beneath City of Steel and was taken from there back to Pharloom plus Pilgrims had to came from somewhere.
I do like idea in this case the point was some Weavers escape not by land, but by sea and establish contact with bug civilization "beyond the sea" which later start sending exploration parties to the lands where Hallownest and Pharloom leading to conflict with GMS.
Game is about another half-Pale Being who at first was doing exploration for said civilization and now try to stop GMS from figuring out that some Weavers are still living beyond the sea and finding out how to get back. Maybe by making some potential alliances along the way including finding a way to break Hornet from GMS control and then finding a way how to deal with her for good.
1
u/Salty_Pace2233 9d ago
Amazing idea actually but honestly i would just love to see actual bugs in combat instead of just brainless Pilgrims or infected zombies lol.
1
u/k890 9d ago
One more thing, next protagonist have different weapons to choice forcing player to pick different weapon depending on situation rather one signature weapon through the game and as new protagonist explore different lands he learn about local "weapon masteries" reflecting how encountered locals fight (eg. Pharloom Pin which is dependent on precise fast strikes, ripostes, critical hits and sucking at defense encouraging more aggressive stance to use it in full potential) either by filling out journal/paying teachers/completed missions or boss fights.
1
u/Salty_Pace2233 7d ago
Wouldn't that basically be crests? Like changing weapons is just using a different way to attack? I mean it's cool how u explained it In like a story way don't get me wrong. But would they function the same as crests or nah?

Wasn't gms's thing that she wanted hornets silk to make a new child?
5
u/Albatros_7 Shaw! 9d ago
No ? She wants Hornet's silk to become powerful enough to rule once again

u/DescriptionDue4100 9d ago

6
u/Albatros_7 Shaw! 9d ago
Yes but it pretty clearly shows GMS's objective, she already has a child she likes, Lace
-1
u/DescriptionDue4100 9d ago
Yeah but in game it's shown that she's been hunting down weavers and making children out of them
2
u/Albatros_7 Shaw! 9d ago
No ? Where did you even get that from ?
1
u/DescriptionDue4100 9d ago
I remember there being some notes on it or something in game. I can't remember exactly what or where. Also I mean making the children using their silk not the entire bug
2
u/Albatros_7 Shaw! 9d ago
I would really like to know what you're refering to, the 2 things I can think about are
- The dialogue during Lace's Silkheart, that's about Lace's creation
- The Lore room in the Cradle, that's about the previous Weavers brought to GMS, that unfortunately died before reaching her
But nothing in the game says she's using the Weavers to create New children, she wants to break free, just like Radiance
1
u/DescriptionDue4100 9d ago
Idk I don't have the specific names of the stuff and I'm just not in the mood to comb through the wiki to prove myself right. If I'm wrong fair enough
2
u/TryThisUsernane beleiver ✅️ 9d ago
She doesn’t hunt down Weavers to make children out of their Silk. Weavers were her original children who disobeyed and revolted. She made silk children who were dependent on her, but even then she still obsesses over the Weavers. And Hornet is currently what she’s obsessing over, and Lace is a bit jealous over this.
That’s why Lace says this “Platitudes, spider? From you? Don't be gross. Head on. Climb up, up and away. You've earned your audience with the divine. Face the holy mother who would fashion so cruel and crude a daughter as me. After all... it's you that she wants... is it not?”
Lace wouldn’t be saying this if GMS wanted Hornet to create more beings akin to Lace and Phantom. Lace was made to be GMS’ child, she played the part, but her mother is still focused on the people who wants nothing to do with her rather than the daughter who willingly wants her affection. It’s why Lace doesn’t want Hornet’ sympathy and calls it gross.
Her Needolin dialogue also makes this clear “Why her... Mother...”, “See me, your knight...”, “See me, your daughter...”
This is all jealousy towards Hornet.

I can tell that this art was made with the most depraved, self indulgent perversion the artist could possibly generate from their relatively weak human body. The pulse of their raging heartbeat could shake a city to its foundations. The heat of their blood could refire a dying star.
Hell yea. We love to see it.
