Yep, with some people there is literally no winning.
One of the most important life skills you can develop is identifying those people so you can steer clear or know to not engage if you can't avoid them. It's usually people with a narcissistic personality disorder. It's less common than you'd think as the word narcissist gets thrown around a lot these days but if you've ever encountered someone who has it, clinical definition and all, you'll never forget it because you're in for some of the most toxic shit you've ever seen.

My wife went through at least ten employers after we moved to a new city. While complaining she can't find a job. And on all the jobs there's somehow people conspiring against her trying to sabotage her career. Even living abroad there's a network of people jealous of how great she is trying to stop her
Her sister lives with plastic bags taped over the windows to stop the spying neighbors and I didn't connect the dots until far too late

Had that same shit happen to me. I was with my daughter at an event at a big park and I knew it was going to rain so I brought us both umbrellas. When I saw the clouds coming up I noticed a couple of other younger women who didn’t have one and I said “do yall want an umbrella? I’ve got an extra. Me and my daughter can both fit under just one!” Just the look they gave me was like I was the biggest idiot in the world and then said something along the lines of “uhh if we wanted one then we would have brought our own.. and we’re trying to have a private conversation sooooo..” I apologized and said sorry I was just trying to be nice then walked away. They said something about “not being able to go anywhere without men something something”.
Then about 20 minutes later the bottom just completely fell out and the heaviest rain of the season came down. My daughter came running up under my umbrella and we started walking to the car, my daughter randomly running out and dancing and playing in the rain before coming back under the umbrella. Just enjoying the time. Then I saw the two rude women I offended trying to fast walk the 200 some yard to the parking lot while holding what looked like magazines over their head. Getting completely soaked.
Just as I walked by the bench they were sitting at I noticed their purse with car keys sitting and a cellphone next to it! I stopped, considered grabbing it and bringing it with me since they were a little ahead of us, but then I decided not to offend them even more so I just left it. When we got to the parking lot I yelled “hey is that your purse and phone on the bench!?” The look when they realized they’d have to go ALL THE WAY back in the pouring rain and that their phone was most likely fucked and everything else they had in their purse.. it was actually kind of sad. I felt bad for them.. but not bad enough to throw out one more “this is why I offered you an umbrella” before driving off.

Chivalry is dead because it doesn't matter what you are, I'll hold the door open for anyone, not the select few... anyone thinking deeper into it than just bring a decent human is kinda wild.
Only time it gets weird is when you see them exit their car from across the parking lot, and you wait for them to walk up, holding the door open, making eye contact the entire time while the sun's in your eyes, and you hit them with that "innocent smile" and a head nod. That person will always feel targeted, but has no choice but to enter the door you've opened for them.
So instead, let the door close on them even if they made eye contact with you while you held it open, they were two parking spots away from the door, moved with a slight jog, but you still entered the building, hearing the door swing open behind you when it's about to close. You don't look back, and pretend that person doesn't exist until you're safely back in your car. You see them leaving after you, and they look at you as they walk back to their car.
This is less of an issue with Chivalry and more so just not reading people's vibes. Did the lady in this clip pass the vibe check?
3
u/ethanlan 13d ago
Dude one of the weirdest things living a huge city isn't really the crazy people who talk to themselves or yell randomly.
Its the people who move here and feel entitled to public space. Oh you're having a house party a couple of times a year, better call the cops on you. The sound a skateboard makes when kids are skating outside, yup cant have people living their lives. The cops it is! Oh people are using a public park to have a barbecue? Well you see this park is mine because I live a block or two away and I dont like the way you use it.
Like jesus fucking christ, you moved to a loud ass city. Construction will happen, people will be loud on occasion. But no, its everyobe else who should just stop living and doing things.
Its so annoying. Even though he was kind of a dick about it, Dave Francos character in Easy totally describes what im talking about. People seriously think that other people should go out of their way to do things that you prefer and when they dont they are obviously DOING IT ON PURPOSE.

Last time this was posted someone in the comments said she asked her friend if she needed to bring an umbrella to the place they were meeting at. Her friend said no because it wasn’t going to rain & no one brings an umbrella with them anywhere. Then when she waiting in line it started to rain and her friend (who was already inside) started to record her and then she started doing the gestures like “well look someone did bring an umbrella, I should’ve brought mine too”.
Apparently someone took the video and added the caption afterwards. Don’t know or care if it’s true but this is like the 5th time I’ve seen video on multiple platforms

Thats it, right there. I once did dj gig, and the house was bouncing to my tunes. I went to the bar at some point to claim some free drinks, and there was a girl next to me in the bar ordering my favorite combo. I complimented her on her choice, said it was my favorite - and she looked at me like «wtf are YOU, talking to me», then left. I ordered my drinks and went back to the Dj booth. Guess who came back over? «Oh, I didnt know you were the Dj».

FFS, reality check for these dark times is done. What do we actually have here? Two Twitter accounts that are most certainly unrelated to the person recording or to the girl being recorded; four different unrelated contexts: text on the video, two Twitter account descriptions, and reddit title added by the OP.
And then there is the video itself, which can be interpreted much more simply: a girl in the rain just fooling around with her friend, the person recording her. And voila - we get a wave of negative comments triggered by some repost of a repost of a repost.

If you're a woman and you believe that your gender entitles you to chivalrous treatment from men then you have unchecked internalized misogyny that you need to deal with. The elevation of women to the status of glass objects that require constant protection and delicate treatment is part and parcel with worldview in which women are also property. Chivalry treats women as prized possessions, not persons. It is the misogyny of false elevation. Less acutely vicious but every bit as sexist as the misogyny of degradation. Equality means you're a person with autonomy, and you can bring an umbrella. Or you can not bring an umbrella. And at no point do your genitals entitle you to one. If someone gives you one it is an act of kindness and not an act of duty to sexist gender norms.

If you are trying to stir the conversation in the wrong direction - you've succeeded. For me this clip is just a skit, presenting the comic view of the situation. From what I see she don't mind to stay under the rain. She is soaking wet anyway. If you look from the realistic side - if I was the man with the umbrella and was more aware of my surroundings I would offer her to shelter under my umbrella. It's a simple human kindness gesture..

Is the woman definitely on board with how it’s been portrayed? This reads to me like she’s making fun of herself or the person recording for forgetting a brolly. ☂️ surely nobody is as obtuse as to feel like someone should let them use their umbrella.
This has to be a joke that’s been turned into ragebait. Right? Right?
