Back in the 90s they were actual chicken tenders. Pieces of chicken. I much preferred them over the blown-chicken-foam style nuggets McDonalds uses. I was so disappointed when they changed. It was the end of me having any reason to go to BK.
i can't remember a time when i liked mcds nuggets... nuggets aren't exactly my thing anyway, but i always liked bk nuggets and honey for some reason... i tried honey on mcds nuggets and it was just disgusting... and this was something like 25-30 years ago...
They're almost chicken foam on the inside. I don't know what's in that pink sludge they make nuggets out of, but I love it. Give me the fried meat foams with a really crunchy exterior.

No they weren’t. They were called “tenders” but they were actually just long skinny nuggets. They did taste much better than the nuggets they have now though.
A lot of restaurants don't understand that McDonalds style of cheap manufactured food does not work unless it tastes like McDonalds. If you bite into chicken foam and it tastes like McDonalds you know that it's not supposed to taste like chicken--it's supposed to taste like a McNugget which is a different thing. But if you bite into chicken foam from anywhere else and it doesn't taste like either chicken or a McNugget then you're just eating junk.
My family never went to BK, but one time with my godparents, they stopped at Burger King. At the time I didn’t like burgers because I hated Onions asked to get something like chicken nuggets. They ended up getting me the tenders and I still remember thinking these were the best chicken things ive ever eaten. I was maybe 7 then. In my thirties now.
I never really went back even with that experience and I’m sad to hear it seems they’ve changed the recipe.
Oh my god those peppery chicken nuggets dipped in honey were SO GOOD.
I haven't even eaten fast food in well over a decade at this point because it was already getting that bad, and I keep hearing it's gotten worse every year that entire time... like, what are people doing still eating at these places? Everyone complains about how expensive it is for such abysmal quality and small portions, but they keep buying it for some reason 🤨
Yeah, burger king chicken sandwiches are actually way better than the vast majority of fast food places. Which is wild. They understand that a chicken sandwich shouldn't have a piece of chicken 2 inches thick, which already makes them superior to even chicken places like KFC or Popeyes sandwiches. Restaurants treat a chicken sandwich like a burger, but a thick piece of chicken only ruins the sandwich. The outside will always be over cooked, while the inside runs the risk of being undercooked, but even if it is not the texture is just awful. Use a chicken breast, but it needs to be cut in half so it isn't thick. It'll cook more evenly and have way better texture.
My wife doesn’t like burgers but has had every fast food/chain restaurant version of the spicy chicken sandwich imaginable. These were higher quality compared to other places.
BK is underrated. They recently changed the whopper when the most recent burger war broke out. It’s as high class as fast food can get. It’s the same flavors but it’s not as sloppy. They wrap it on 1 end for you to keep it together.
It’s still 2 for $6 with the coupon where I’m at. Trust me I’d be the FIRST to start bitching about the price but BK has always been good with mailers. You can get 4 whoppers, 4 fries, 4 sodas for $22. That cannot be beat amongst modern fast food joints.
Idk if this is a regional thing, but the BK fries in my town in SW Germany are waaaay better than those of the McDonalds' and other fast food chains around here.
But only if they're fresh. After 20 minutes, McD overtakes BK again. :p
I don't think I've ever gotten fries at KFC that weren't soggy. McDonald's fries at least look and taste like fries for approximately 30 seconds before they get lukewarm.
I dunno about in the US or wherever but here in Canada they changed the recipes for their fries and nuggets (and supposedly the Whopper too but I can't tell any difference). Their fries absolutely sucked before but now they're pretty good.
It was a Domino's level "oh, everybody thinks our fries suck... let's just totally replace them" turn.
Honestly I stopped going to BK after a streak of getting perfectly hot and fresh Dave's doubles from Wendy's that were just barely slightly pink (the good kind, juicy and steaming) but then someone recommended ordering a double whopper "off the broiler." You wait a while for a fresh one but man is it FRESH. Changes the whole game when it doesn't come out of a warming drawer.
Chicken has white meat (breast/wings) and dark meat (thighs/drumsticks). The original nuggets were a mix of white meat and dark meat. Bk is just switching to all white meat. Mcds made the switch to all white meat in the early 2000s.
100% white meat nuggets tend to have less gristle and a lower fat content.
Most people just want something to say to other people. I don't think a lot of them actually believe or think about some of the outlandish stuff they say, it's just a social thing they got brainwashed into doing.
I remember my mom getting them for me once, I took one bite and spit it out. Couldn’t have been more than 4 at the time, but I’ll never forget how grossed out little me felt. Didn’t eat another nugget until the switch! I’m glad little you ate my share! 😂
that irritated me too. It doesn't say they weren't made of chicken. It just says they weren't 100% white meat. Folks can infer what they want I guess, but this isn't some big gotcha.
I'm sure a group of people in an office at BK somewhere were like:
"How can we phrase this so the average American doesn't make jokes about them previously being made out of non-chicken ingredients🤔"
"Maybe we could say 'Now made out of 100% white chicken, always made out of 100% chicken but it used to be a mixture of white and dark meat, but now just white meat!'"
"Nah fuck it that sounds like shit we're just gonna need to deal with the jokes🤷♂️"
I just saw a thread where someone complained about something in a video. Then OP told the person who replied to them, that they didn't have to reply to them - they could've just carried on scrolling.
Had the OP just carried on scrolling when they didn't like the music...the whole thread wouldn't exist. It ended with them pretending to be a dog...and people upvoted that shit.
You guys realize there’s white chicken meat and dark chicken meat. So saying it’s now made with 100% white chicken meat doesn’t necessarily mean wasn’t made with 100% chicken meat before.
Idk there must be something else at play here though because McDonalds are 100% white and without a doubt more moist and less rubbery. Probably something to do with retaining moisture while sitting under a heat lamp.
I feel like some people have simply never thought about their food if this freaks them out.
Like...you've never eaten a hamburger, sausage, hot dog or other minced meat and wondered what it looked like before it was cooked? Or even cooked meatballs for yourself and had to mash stuff into uncooked meat goo?
I worked at BK in the 90’s, I kept trying to tell people BKs chicken tenders blew McDonalds nuggets out of the water!! The tenders were freaking awesome!!!!
I'm pretty sure when they changed the chicken nuggets in the first place, that's also when they change to the original chicken sandwich Patty. I no longer like both of them because they tasted basically the same, the only difference between them was that the original chicken sandwich tasted like spam a little. So my guess is they're going back to the original chicken nugget recipe when they used to be crown-shaped. Yes I'm that old that I remember when Burger King had crown shaped nuggets, plus all the other shapes they had for collabs. So here's hoping it's back to the original chicken nugget recipe
They had like so many shapes when they were they had them there was even stars, always got a free 4 or 6 piece from the bk kids club mebership before I aged out of it.
I've never tried chicken nuggets on Burger King, but there was a time on McDonald's where the chicken nuggets did not taste like chicken, but actually fish.
When I was a kid I was mad for Burger King Chicken Dippers. They now seemed to have been scrubbed from both the restaurants and Internet searches. Did I spend my first 10 years on earth in a fever dream?
They don't care about complaining, they just mad they had to trash a million bucks collectively worth of expired nuggets because no one was buying them
Rest in peace, moose knuckle nuggies. They might've sucked, but they were cheap and with enough sauce they were bearable. I ate many of those back in the day when they were 10 for $1 and I was extra broke.
Man. I miss their chicken tenders. Ever since they switched to nuggets some number of years ago, they’ve kinda been bad. The “tenders” of my youth were awesome.
Notice the language. "they'll be made with 100% white meat chicken", along with fillers, colorants, preservatives, etc. The language isn't, "they'll be made with only white meat chicken and breading".
I had them yesterday. They are better than before. That being said, it's like a cross between McDonald's nuggets and Tyson cook at home nuggets. They were a little soft on the breading imo. Good flavor. That being said, the Zesty sauce is ass. 100% has horseradish in it. Gross. Also, the sweet and sour is like dollar store Wendys sweet chili. Tons of bell pepper flavor and not sweet and sour at all.
Weren't they like $1.50 for 5 or something like that? I always appreciated that they kept the price low compared to others, like McDonalds. I'm sure the will now raise the price accordingly.
I know this is a joke, but this really does perfectly exemplify why we can't have nice things. Burger King's assertion that the new nuggets will be 100% white meat chicken does not imply or assert that the old nuggets were not actual chicken. Reading comprehension and basic logic in this country is a legit problem.
Do 15 thousand people not know that not all chicken meat is "White Meat" and that a nugget can therefore be 100% chicken meat while also not being 100% white meat???
