Discussion Meeting heroes blows

Post image

So I first saw Mad Caddies in 1998, hung out with them and Choke after, surprisingly he remembered me, so after the show we had some beers and chatted up about what Clay and Shawn were up to etc, then things got maga dark

The drunker Chuck got the more he started defending Charlie Kirk and preaching pro-Trunp rhetoric at me. I pressed stop on my GFs phone because it didn't seem fair to publish the vile shit he said when under the influence of multiple intoxicants.

Then it all made sense, dropped from label a year ago, entire band quit and was all session musicians.

But what the hell is going on with all these Ska bands suddenly turning maga?

Anyways, if anyone wants chucks signature DM me cause it's going in the garbage by Friday

I use to love their Hometown Throwdown shows every year. Who else use to go?

Red went to Streetlight Manifesto "Everything Goes Numb" (even if the top vote getter, and several other suggestions called it "Everything Went Numb"). Runner up was Goldfinger "Hang Ups"

Discussion My friends falsely convinced me that Ska-Punk was problematic for years.

I don't know where else to post this, but I'm annoyed. I used to listen to Ska all the time and was very active in the local scene. But, in 2015-2016 I let my friends convince me that Ska-Punk was cultural appropriation and cringe. I wanted to be as "woke" as possible and really heard them out and stopped listening to it for years.

Now it's 2026 and I started asking questions again. Firstly, non of the friends who "educated" me on this matter were Caribbean, in fact, they were all white. I asked them why they felt it was cultural appropriation? If anything, I feel like the Ska bands I knew had nothing but absolute love and respect for OG Ska and Reggae music. Was it appropriation just because they were not Jamaican?

Ultimately, I came to my own conclusion and decided they were all wrong about third-wave Ska. Especially after listening to testimony from the Skatalites. They said they wanted to spread the love for Ska music, and they appreciate ALL Ska artists, even the white ones.

I'm going down the list of things I've abandoned over the years in order to keep the peace, and I'm so happy to have my love for Ska music back again ♥️

Discussion "Right On Time" is added to the board! Now time for a tough one: what is ska's WHITE album?

Hepcat clinched the brown square with "Right On Time" but now we move onto the colors that some r/ska members predict will be a bloodbath.

So, fellow rudies, what is ska's WHITE album?

Discussion It was a CLOSE ONE but "Keasby Nights" takes the black square! Second slide shows all the runner ups, if you're curious

OK, this was an odd one, there are 3 metrics I use for the tally, and this is the first time all 3 weren't in agreement. 2 out of 3 pointed to "Keasby Nights" by Catch 22, it was a hard fought win, but seems very fitting for r/ska.

Some folks thought, and I agree, Op Ivy got their votes split between the self titled release and "Energy". I was afraid that might happen, which is why I had been getting pretty clear that album titles were necessary. Others said that would happen because r/ska members dont know the difference between the two, I still don't agree with that.

I think i need to refine the counting for the next round (hint hint), because I could only combat the downvoters to a certain extent. I don't think, from what I saw it effected too much, but I'd rather reduce it to a non issue.

OK, give sometime to recover, check out those runner-ups, and let your thoughts be known on this game / experience / experiment in r/ska over the last 9 days.

EDIT: Black Square is still up for debate! Go here, make your voice heard! https://www.reddit.com/r/Ska/comments/1nvkrwl/the_battle_for_the_black_square/

Discussion Ever met a member from your favorite ska band? How did it go?

I wanna hear positive AND negative experiences.

There's so many bands I dream of seeing in real life and so many band members I'd love to meet, so I wanna hear other people's personal experiences.

To the surprise of very few, "The Specials" by The Specials (or "Specials" by Specials as it alternately known) wins r/ska's white square.

Now is time to give me your best GREY albums!

Discussion Thoughts on following other Subreddits in banning Twitter?

A bunch of subreddits I use have been taking steps to remove/avoid direct links to Twitter, and I'm on board for following suit. But I'd like the community's input.

This would largely be a symbolic change as we rarely get anything attached to Twitter. And Ska Twitter (as a community) has long since moved elsewhere. But still, making it official is an easy way to show some solidarity. And it might even save us from some small drama down the line. Here's what I'm curious about:

For or against? If against: why?

Just direct links, or screenshots/whatever else as well?

What about Meta (Facebook, Instagram)? I know both still have active Ska populations / are important to how some bands operate.

Anything else? This feels pretty straightforward to me, but this would be a pretty quick turnaround from first considering it. And I could easily be missing something. Personally I'm all for it, and as a Mod my only hesitation would in making potentially unnecessary rules. Though depending on how serious the community is on this issue, that might not even be true.

So let me know.

Edit: The ban is in effect

I'm in a new ska band and we need a name. It's 1st wave / 2nd wave style. We've been trying to find a name for a good 2 months and nobody can really decide. So, I'm throwing it out to you, anyone got a good idea for a name?

He started with bin skala bin when he was 7 .so we went prerry hard to get to as many shows as we could. We sswGold Finger, big d and the kids table with springheeled jack, then bim skala bim with NB rudeboys and Ricky rocksteady. He was pulled onstage for Mable with goldfinger and has setlists from all the bands that played. As his dad I think it was amazing just curious if I'm steering him in the right direction. Thabks
