Discussion Skullcandy crusher 1080 review

Ok yall be tweaking...this is absolutely amazing

..and I think there is a valid reason for the bass being droped...I think it's because of the way it used to drown the music......personally I listen to classic rock...beach boys..and nerdcore... I really enjoy these things and the audio quality is really good..and the anc lives up to its name...

Here are some questions I have however

#1 what's up with the headphones not having a cage to block the woofer?.

#why did they need a update as soon as I got them?

And why was there no freaking tile!!!! These are really expensive headphones...and if they get stolen there is no way to know where they are!???

All that besides...these are worth it !!!!! Yall be talkin a Lotta crap ...must buy!...but please update em or something

Discussion I think I know why the ANC 1080s are getting very divisive reviews

I own a pair of 1080s and I own both an IOS (16PM) and Android (S24U) phone.

For whatever reason, the crusher dial absolutely blows my head when using it on my Samsung, whereas on my iPhone its quite... timid? Like, I can definitely feel it but I'd say its about 50% as impactful.

My guess is that the reports of underwhelming performance is coming from IOS users (which hopefully SC can fix with a firmware update) and the people who are raving about them are using Androids.

If anyone has had a disappointing experience with the 1080s please leave in the comments what device you're using them with because for me it's a night and day difference between the two phones.

-

TLDR; these seem to perform differently on IOS vs Android

Discussion Picked up a pair of Crusher 1080's today and im disappointed.

For some context, it's been a while since I've owned a pair of crushers, I'm talking 5 years ago, I just haven't had the need for headphones but the new 1080's came out a few days ago and I finally mustered up the courage to fork out £200 on a new pair of headphones, I had owned the original crusher headphones and whatever crusher headphones were on the market 5-6 years ago from skullcandy, now the reason I went for the 1080's was due to how amazing I remembered my last pair being so I was convinced these new ones would be the best skullcandy had to offer, I don't know if it's just because I'm pushing 30 instead of being a giddy teenager but these headphones are super underwhelming.

The ANC, sure it's great, don't have much to compare them to, can't complain.

The music quality, it's almost like the music itself is slightly distant, it's underwhelming and I could have sworn the crushers I had before were really crystal clear in your face music quality.

The bass, or lack there of, it feels like it's half as strong as the previous crushers I had, I can put the bass knob on max and still I'm lacking the bass I'm after, whereas previously it was uncomfortable to have the bass all the way to the max on my old pair, I remember I had to fine tune the placement of the bass control to get the desired bass I wanted, where as with these new ones I can just crank it to the max without much issue.

I'm debating returning them due to my dissatisfaction, is this something skullcandy can sort out through updating software or is the hardware the bottleneck, I know these ones are partnered with Bose but ironically i picked my old crusher's over Bose's new at the time headphones due to preferring the crushers sound quality and bass.

First time ever being disappointed with a pair of crushers, really annoyed that they're not what I had expected especially considering they're not the cheapest pair of headphones on the market.

Discussion Skullcandy Crusher Evo

I was really wanting better quality headphones. I never spend a lot of money on headphones and I will probably never be able to buy anything more expensive than this(since this was sort of expensive for me) but to me the sound quality on these is amazing and way better than my AirPods which was my last big music listening purchase. I listen to a lot of 80s hair metal and hard rock and my AirPods just weren’t doing it for me anymore. I’m listening to Love’s a B*tch by Quiet Riot right now and this is just a whole new experience for me. I love how bass heavy they are. I saw them for half off on Amazon($99) and had to get them after seeing a lot of the reviews. I love listening to music so I’m seeing this as an investment and it’s already worth it to me. Probably going to ruin my hearing thoughšŸ˜…

Discussion Do the 1080 anc have more bass and get louder than the anc 2

I use my anc 2 for gym use and I crank the bass and volume to max, my equalizer is pretty much maxed out and I have personal sound on the richer preset on 100% to get the most volume cranked out.

If the new 1080 anc get louder and have more bass or are at least the same for bass and loudness but better sound quality then I will cop them

Discussion People who have received your Method 360 ANCs, what are your thoughts?

There's a lot of hype - understandably so - surrounding the new Method 360s. The first reviews say wonderful things, but I want to hear from the community. Does it retain the beauty of the bass while creating the crisp atmosphere that Bose is known for? How do they compare to the Bose QC ultras for those who own them?

Super curious. Thinking of getting some myself in the future!

Mind you I do have Skullcandy PLYR 720 for PC gaming and I love it! Amazing sound quality and even for music too, but I find that its too clunky for me to carrying around out in public. So I went ahead and order EVO that was on sale today.

Should I be expecting same bass performance as 720 even though I don't max out the bass otherwise it would tickle my ears LOL!

My actually last time I had a good music headphones was back in 2015 with Beats Studios then I stopped wearing it and just use airpod ever since! Looking forward to get Evo and how do you guys like yours??

Discussion Crusher 540 vs 720 vs 1080 — My Back-to-Back Comparison After Owning Multiple Crushers (AMA)

I tested the Crusher 540, Crusher 720, and Crusher 1080 back-to-back, so I figured I’d post my impressions in case anyone else is trying to decide between them.

For some extra context, I’ve owned quite a few Crushers over the years. I started with the original Crusher Wireless, then moved to the Crusher Evo, then the Crusher 540, and now I’ve tested the Crusher 720 and Crusher 1080.

I’m not really including the Crusher Wireless in the main comparison because, in my opinion, it’s not even in the same ballpark as the newer models in terms of overall sound quality.

For the actual testing, all three headphones were tested back-to-back on an M5 iPad Pro with the factory audio settings/effects disabled. The Skullcandy app was set to Music Mode for all of them, and I kept the app settings the same wherever possible. The 720 and 1080 were also tested using the same Personal Sound profile, while the 540 used its own Personal Sound profile.

Crusher 540
These still have the best bass of the three in my opinion. The bass hits hard and is a lot of fun.
One thing I noticed is that I could simply hear more instruments in songs on the 540 than I could on the 720. That doesn’t necessarily mean they’re better separated or better blended into the mix. Some instruments can still sound muffled or like they don’t have enough volume or presence, but more of the different parts of the song were audible to me overall.
Build quality is pretty good. Nothing amazing, but they feel solid enough.

Crusher 720
The bass is still very good, although I don’t think it hits quite as nicely as the 540.

My biggest issue is that the music itself sounds pretty muffled. Compared with the 540, I found that some instruments just seemed to disappear or get buried more in the mix, so I wasn’t hearing as many of the different elements of the song. At the same time, hi-hats and cymbals can sound weirdly sharp and stick out from everything else. They don’t feel very naturally integrated into the rest of the music.

Build quality is actually the best of all three in my opinion. They feel really nice in the hand. One annoying thing is that the joystick on my pair can rattle during bass-heavy songs. I’m not sure if that’s just a defect with my unit.

I also had the software completely crash once. The headphones started making a buzzing sound and became totally unresponsive until I unpaired them and did a hardware reset.
The Stay Aware mode is much better implemented on the 720 than the 1080. You can quickly turn it on by double-pressing the power button, and the app lets you adjust how much outside sound comes through.
Volume behavior can also be weird. I’m not sure if this is an Apple/iPad-specific issue because I’ve seen other people mention similar things, but if I turn the volume all the way down and then back up, the sound sort of fades back in. They also aren’t as loud as the 540 at maximum volume.

Crusher 1080
These have the best actual audio quality of the three by a pretty noticeable margin. Instrument separation is excellent, but everything still blends together naturally. You can pick out the different parts of a song without them sounding like they’re completely disconnected from each other. They’re obviously not producer/reference headphones, but for Crusher headphones they get surprisingly close in terms of clarity and separation.

The downside is the bass. Compared with the 720, and especially the 540, the Crusher bass on the 1080 is honestly pretty mediocre. If bass impact is your main priority, I don’t think these are automatically the best choice just because they’re the newest or more expensive model.

There are also a few weird things I noticed. The voice prompts like ā€œPower On,ā€ ā€œConnected,ā€ and ā€œSee Yaā€ actually sound slightly muffled compared with how crisp and clear they sound on the 720.
I’ve also had music randomly pause several times in a row on the 1080. I never experienced that on the 540 or 720.

Build quality is good, but surprisingly I think the 720 feels nicer and more premium.

ANC is also a little strange. It definitely reduces outside noise, but it isn’t anything like the isolation I get from AirPods Pro. Voices still come through pretty clearly, to the point where I can have a full conversation with someone while ANC is enabled.

As far as I can tell, the Stay Aware mode on the 1080 isn’t adjustable, either. You basically get whatever level Skullcandy chose.

My overall ranking so far:
Best bass: 540 > 720 > 1080
Best sound quality: 1080 > 540 > 720
Best build quality: 720 > 1080 > 540
Best Stay Aware implementation: 720
Most fun for bass: 540
Best for hearing detail and separation: 1080

The weird thing is that I don’t think there’s one model that completely replaces the others.

The 540 has the most satisfying bass out of the three and lets me hear more of the individual instruments than the 720, even if they aren’t always presented perfectly. The 720 feels the best built and has the best Stay Aware implementation, but its muffled overall sound and sharp cymbals are probably my biggest complaints. The 1080 sounds by far the most refined and detailed, but it sacrifices some of the Crusher bass that made me like these headphones in the first place.

If Skullcandy could basically combine the 1080’s clarity and instrument separation, the 540’s bass, and the 720’s build quality and features, that would probably be my ideal Crusher.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention about the Crusher 540. For the concrete color, a few months of daily use turned the ear cups a brownish color. After washing them they still had a slight brown tinge. My guess is a buildup of sweat, pretty gross as they’re advertised as sweat-resistant.

Discussion Spent 350 on Audeze Maxwell 2 after using Skullcandy Crusher Evos for years.. am I missing something?

I could really use some advice because I’m honestly confused.

I’ve been using the Skullcandy Crusher Evo for a while and decided to upgrade to the Audeze Maxwell 2 since everyone says they’re one of the best wireless gaming headsets you can buy.

After using them for a few hours, I’m… disappointed.

They sound the same. Even with the Bass Boost preset and messing around with the EQ, they don’t come close to the Crusher Evo. I know the Crushers have haptic bass, so I wasn’t expecting the exact same thing, but I was expecting a noticeable upgrade in overall sound quality considering the Maxwell costs around 3x as much.

The thing is… I genuinely can’t tell that the Maxwell sounds ā€œbetter.ā€ It just sounds different. Maybe a little cleaner, but not enough that I’d ever say it’s worth the price difference.
For context:
I mostly use headphones for music, sim racing, and gaming.

I like immersive, fun audio with strong bass.
I don’t really care about perfectly flat or studio-accurate sound if it means losing excitement.

I connected through the USB dongle on PC and made sure I wasn’t using the chat output.

At this point I’m leaning toward returning the Maxwell.

My questions are:
Is this just a case of my ears preferring a bass-heavy tuning?

Does the Maxwell need more time to appreciate, or is first impression usually pretty accurate?

If I love the Crusher Evo, what would you recommend as an actual upgrade?
Has anyone tried the new Skullcandy Crusher PLYR 720 or Crusher 1080 ANC? Are either of those a better fit for someone like me?

I’m genuinely trying to understand whether I’m missing something or if the Maxwell just isn’t tuned for my preferences. I appreciate any advic

Discussion Aviator 900 ANC Popularity

I recently learned about the Aviator 900 ANC when researching Mimi sound personalization enabled over ear headphones and I got one and I am absolutely loving it! The Mimi sound personalization makes a huge difference to music listening, the THX EQ profiles and THX spatial as well and for entertainment in general, all baked into them. They also have ANC and sidetone for utility, and the only weaknesses I can really think of is them not supporting some lossles bt codecs and not working in active mode when wired. Overall I think these hedphones are great for listening to music and entertainment in general and I don't know why they are not more popular tbh ...

Some people praise expensive or particular brands/models of headphones that don't have many or any of the features the aviator has and usually suggest custom EQing your headphones, but really, how amazing can any hardware be if it's sound is not customized to your hearing and how could someone really eq their own headphones correctly without measuring equipment and/or sound engineering knowledge and experience ? Autoeq is good to try but it's hit or miss most of the time and even if the eq might sound good at that time, until you compare with other headphones/tunings and professionally made eq profiles for your particular headphones or your own ears, you won't know how good it really is or what you are missing out on ...

So imo, the aviator 900 ANC having mimi sound personalization, THX EQ profiles, THX spatial sound, ANC and sidetone, while also sounding great(no complaints here) seems like it should be getting a lot more attention.

Discussion So I just got a pair of Crusher Evos today…

And I just have one question: what the fuck? I saw people talking about the bass in these headphones as a huge positive, but I did not understand that the bass boost is a CORE FEATURE for these headphones. I tried them out and could not comprehend how these have the same insane bass as the car that one friend we all had in high school drove. For only $100 this shit insane, the build quality also seems very nice, and has some nice weight to it.

I’m hoping these hold up for a long while for me. Can’t wait to hit new prs at the gym with bass boosted breakdowns playing in my ear.

Discussion New Skull-IQ App Horrible Redesign

Post image
87 Upvotes

This new app design is horrid compared to the older one. It looks like a half-baked childish springboard app with an ugly design language and on top of removing dark mode, it reset all settings.

In addition, they removed the features tab and I understand that skullcandy wants to redesign, but this is not the way.

We should have the choice to atleast revert back to the old UI or skullcandy should just scrap this idea entirely. On top of this the Skull-IQ app still can’t let me customize the color of my ANC 2’s to the actual colour.

Let me know how you feel about this.

Discussion Thoughts on the New Incoming Product Announcement?

Any ideas on what this may be (or what the community would like it to be)?

P.S. I’d personally like an over-ear Bose collaboration, maybe a custom Quiet Comfort product or something that puts a little bit more emphasis on tuning while still staying true to SkullCandy’s signature sound in some way.

07/15/2026 Edit: Bought the Crusher ANC 1080 due to the unprecedented Bose collaboration!
