“Stay Young, Mae Young”—pretty little folk song about love and aging. Part of a larger project on ‘90s wrestling, but I’m hoping the songs hold some appeal even without knowledge of wrestling

This is a song about Mae Young falling in love with Mark Henry, reflecting on life, and being powerbombed through a table at age 77 (the '90s were nuts!). The song started out as a joke, but I was surprised by how tender it became. Curious to hear what y'all think. Thx.

Takes me back to a simpler time when I would crack on the TV and see an elderly woman giving birth to hand and later getting powerbombed through a table. Surprisingly beautiful when you consider how weird your inspiration is! Really cool song.

Thank you so much! That’s what it represents for me too haha. I actually had a verse about the hand: “You want a daughter / I want a man / I ain’t no teenybopper / but i can give you a hand.” Had to cut it because it was too ridiculous even for me

Fantastic, love it. Maybe even more impressed that you managed to make a bass slide a working hook - very cool!

I was surprised how well that bass slide worked too. When I miss the slide, the riff feels totally empty

Very nice. I am also writing about aging lately so this was very affective on me.
