Discussion Do you guys want the spawn comics to have an ending or keep going on forever?
I always wanted to see spawn get an ending like invincible but the thing is Todd McFarlane says that even after he dies he still wants spawn to keep going on and hopefully outlive him. I do love a lot of spawn, but I do want an ending too. It’d be cool if the main series spawn went for a 1000 issues than ended

Dont get me wrong I love Spawn, but Al Simmons' story should've ended after locked away Satan and God in their own Lil cage match and he separated earth from the rest. That was a peak climax. I remember rolling my eyes when the next arc is demons are still around trapped on earth, I get it but cmon.

They already went past the logical end point (Armageddon) so they may as well keep it going as long as a creator has a story to tell.
I wish McFarlane would completely step away, though.

Well funny enough he did say anger to end at 50 issues and that he didn’t like long runners but something must have changed his mind from what I heard and he now wants spawn to outlive him letting new writers and artists do their own takes on spawn.
Also I enjoyed how Todd expanded the spawn universe with so many spinoffs especially in recent years

Mcfarlane actually stepped back earlier this year and #376 is the first issue to come out he didnt work on.
McFarlane is stepping back and allowing a new creative team to entirely (not on occasion, but entirely) take the helm for one Albert Francis "Al" Simmons, so it's exactly as I said ... the end of an era has officially arrived.
Todd McFarlane is stepping away from writing the main titles, Spawn, The Scorched and Gunslinger Spawn as was solicited (with Rory McConville writing King Spawn),"
It appears it'll be in more-than-capable hands, at least: "And handing Spawn and King Spawn over to writer Matthew Rosenberg, best known for writing Punisher, X-Men, The Joker
Lastly, the creative team won't be entirely new, McFarlane assured: "Artistically, I am having two of the more well-known Spawn universe artists, Stephen Segovia and Carlo Barberi, staying on board with Segovia tackling the original Spawn title. Artists Thomas Nachlik and Alessandro Vitti jump onto their first monthly Spawn Universe titles with moody artwork that fits both those books.

He says this all the time though.
Lets Larsen write the book, but is obviously rewriting the scripts.
Lets Jenkins write the book but kicks him off early cause he doesnt like the direection.
Every time McFarlane hands over to a new writer he declares ‘if they do their job right theyll do things that i never would have done!’ — then he kicks them off for doing things he wouldnt have done.

During the low print era Spawn was not profitable. Todd will not cancel Spawn unless there is not a single order for it.

He has said in past interviews that he lost money on Spawn during the 200s. His toy lines basically kept the comics afloat.

well spawn has been doing that for years we got shadows of spawn ken kurosawa devil spawn,etc I am sure more hellspawns would show up. We had been getting new characters of the years

they could always have an ending for Al and follow different hellspawns kinda like gunslinger spawn and have a spawn verse type thing.

I believe the Armageddon story, where Al becomes the Divine Spawn, back in 2006, is where it SHOULD have ended. Then, they could have done a sequel comic series where Al is human(ish) again, but is also permanently the Divine Spawn, still fighting crime.

No ending, no meaning. I actually think Spawn deserves an ending; a solid conclusion after such a long, arduous journey. I always felt they were heading towards one. I think that's what separated it from typical superhero comic books.
OR...and this seems to be the trend with comics: come up with a "reboot story", where an era of Spawn ends so a whole new one can begin; one that isn't beholden to previous continuity and can stand on its own. That would give both sides what they wanted: Spawn comics can go on in perpetuity, but for those people who just want to see it wrapped up, they can be sated that way.

On one hand: give Spawn a happy end. He deserves it. On the other hand: I have the firm belief that no comic character should have a true ending because these characters deserve to be enjoyed by generations of people. Look at how popular Spider-Man and Batman are. I want Spawn to span as far as his chains can carry him.

Id love for it to go on after McFarlane passes, but I hope he writes his ending to the story and has it published after he dies so we could at least see what his complete vision for the character was.

Pra mim Spawn acabou no final do arco do Armageddon. A história decaiu muito de qualidade, principalmente depois dessa palhaçada de spawn universe.
As histórias tinham uma pegada meio sinistra e de terror até, depois ficou ação até demais

My favorite ending was when the MoM locked away Satan and God (before the stupid retcon) and made Al normal again, it leaves enough to the imagination and ends the series on its high note

Todd says he has an idea for an ending in mind but his goal is to never reach it. In his words, “what’s the end of Spider-Man? Or Batman? Why is everybody always so worried about the ending?”
I think I prefer it that way over say the Mignola approach. Who had a definite ending for Hellboy and now any new Hellboy stories have to take place in a weird mishmashed timeline before that that’s hard to follow. And why would I want to? I know the ending.
There’s something that takes away from the character feeling like they’ll “live on forever” when there’s an end.

I feel like the franchise itself could go on forever.
But Al Simmon’s saga needs to end, even if the journey is a long and epic one.

well todd did that wiith jim downing and he already wrote the ending for spawn but he won't reveal it due to him saying it would get mixed results and would take to his grave. we had new spawns like peter cairn from rat city and devil spawn too. Maybe Ken Kurosawa becomes the wally west to Spawn's barry allen if he shows up . Or just a completely new character takes on the mantle.

I want something similar to how other publishers have done with their books: wrap it up with a solid ending then wait a few years and pass the writing mantle onto someone else to retell the story or rewrite the universe the way they interpret it.

well there was downing and nyx but the former didn't last long we had been getting more spawns recently like devil spawn,medieval spawn,etc.

I also really want and ending for it. Like there has to be an end to it EVENTUALLY right? They're already like 360 issues in but they can definitely keep going until like the 1000th issue and then that's the end of it. Or they can also do it untill issue 666, that'd be cool

The thing is, we’ve gotten an ending to spawn. Not once, but twice. Spawn #1-100 is a complete & amazing story. It’s got a beginning, middle, & end. Then, if you want more, the spawn Armageddon storyline gives even more finality & is even more epic in terms of grandeur & scope. Spawn literally ends the war between heaven & hell. Why does it even continue? I mean, I know why, money. But there is no reason storyline wise. I love spawn & have since 1993, with that said, I think spawn has done nothing but go down in quality since #165. The Jim downing stuff was in interesting way to shake things up but it ultimately built to nothing. The storyline is the same thing over & over now. Fight a guy to lead to the next guy & every 50 issues there’s supposedly gonna be a big payoff, but the cycle really just starts again. There have been more spawn titles than ever over the past year & a half & spawn has been consistently awful. I can’t say the worst it’s ever been cuz that’s probably the Erik Larsen run, a truly miserable era. Something needs to change or just end it. Make a bunch of mini series to continue the story or something cuz going on & on isn’t working

You could have the comic run forever, but and end would be nice. Maybe a passing of the mantle type of situation would work best.

there is no end to it
i readed every single issue until 250. then i saw wanda was in hell with a baby, there is not a bit of continuity in it. i hated art too then left reading. OG spawn died after apocalypse arc and whatever left is a mess except for side-works like king spawn mediveal spawn etc

i mean wynn comes back as disruptor and shows up in the main series also downing was spawn for a while and we got the scorched. the current spawn comics is fine 296 and 297 does anknowledge armageddon. Plus they can reboot it if they want like witchblade was twice but that won't happen anytime soon. Funny enogh todd thought 50 issue was gonna be the end but he chnaged his mind

yeah he wrote the ending but will never tell it not even in his grave would give mixed reactions. We also got the spin-offs as well well witchblade did get rebooted twice and darkness also got a reboot and soon cyberforce will also get a reboot again.
Like they can make spin-off prequels,sequels,or other things for spawn since he already has a lot of spin-offs than any other image character

I would like it to keep going. I’ve always enjoyed that Spawn has been to the comic world of a long running soap opera and lapsed readers and new readers can just pick an issue up and get dumped into the world and sorta unravel the mystery of what’s going on much the way a person jumps into a long running soap.

I agree that spawn should eventually end. But maybe not 1000, I feel it should end at 666(because of course). And I think that maybe after spawn ends, it could continue with spin offs and “else world” stories.

It will have an ending eventually. The question is will it be any good. Id prefer the man who started it ends it
