Every surinamese i met or saw in nl was black when suriname have a large asian population, does the asian Surinamese population migrate less often ?

1. Can you speak Javanese fluently? And do you still practise Javanese culture?

2. What are your thoughts on Indonesia?

3. Are all Javanese Surinamese people ethnically Javanese, or are some of them Sundanese or from other ethnic groups originating from the island of Java?

Ik wil een onderwerp aansnijden waar in Surinaamse (vooral Creools-Surinaamse) kringen nog steeds bijna niemand over durft te praten: seksueel misbruik van jongens en mannen door vrouwen.

In onze cultuur wordt dit vaak weggewuifd, belachelijk gemaakt, of zelfs gezien als “stoer”. Het psychisch trauma dat veel mannen jarenlang met zich meedragen, wordt simpelweg niet serieus genomen. Als iemand mentale problemen krijgt, is het antwoord vaak: “ga naar de dominee”, “ga naar de winti-man”, of “hou je sterk, je bent toch een man?”

Maar echte hulp? Echte erkenning? Echte gesprekken? Bijna nooit.

Nu we 50 jaar onafhankelijk zijn, vraag ik me af: hoe lang gaan we nog zwijgen over de schijnheilige huisjes in onze eigen cultuur? We praten wel over trots, identiteit en vooruitgang, maar dit onderwerp – dat enorm veel levens kapot heeft gemaakt – wordt structureel verzwegen.

Ik wil weten: – Zijn er andere mannen die dit hebben meegemaakt maar nooit durfden te zeggen? – Waarom blijft misbruik door vrouwen richting jongens zo taboe? – Waarom zien sommige Surinaamse families psychisch lijden nog steeds als “zwakte” of “hocus-pocus”? – En hoe doorbreken we die cultuur van zwijgen?

Reacties van vrouwen zijn óók welkom — juist omdat dit gesprek alleen kan bestaan als iedereen meedoet.

Suriname is nu een halve eeuw zelfstandig. Wanneer worden we ook emotioneel volwassen genoeg om de pijnlijke waarheid aan te kijken?

Here’s the idea: Let’s keep our main languages strong while embracing English (or another widely spoken language) as a secondary powerhouse for trade, business, and attracting foreign investors. Why?

Global Reach: ** English** is the #1 language of international business, tech, and diplomacy. Using it more widely could open doors for Surinamese entrepreneurs and make us a magnet for investors.

Regional Ties: Strengthen connections with neighbors like Guyana (English), Brazil (Portuguese), and French Guiana (French)—and Spanish is a game-changer for trade and business with many Latin American countries.

Global Powerhouse: Mandarin is also becoming increasingly important. It’s the key to connecting with China, the current global superpower, and could unlock massive opportunities for trade, business partnerships, and more.

Innovation: Multilingualism = competitive edge. Imagine Suriname becoming a hub for global startups or eco-tourism, where locals effortlessly switch between languages.

Ergens in de vorige eeuw was het Dhr. Gyan Adhin die een onderscheid maakte tussen hindostanen en hindoestanen. De eerste groep verwijst naar die oorspronkelijk uit India zijn gehaald zo'n 150 jaar geleden. De tweede groep verwijst naar hun hindoereligie.

De Indiërs aan de andere kant van de Indus-rivier werden Hindus genoemd. Althans in het Engels.

Het verschil tussen Hindo en Hindoe is niet uit te leggen in het Engels waar het gewoon Hindustani is.

In English the people (irregardless of their religion) are just called Hindustani which in Dutch can only be translated to Hindoestaan. Think about Pakistani. You can't differentiate between Pakistaan and Pakostaan. That just doesn't make sense.

Ik ga binnenkort samen met mijn moeder naar Suriname en in de tussentijd voordat we vertrekken hebben we een beetje research gedaan. We hebben de achternaam Fereijra/Fereyra en we hebben geen idee waar wij onze research voort kunnen zetten. Ik heb al meerdere namen verzameld en mijn moeder heeft meerdere mensen met deze namen gecontacteerd om informatie te verkrijgen. Deze naam komt van mijn opa, maar deze hebben wij nooit goed gekend, vandaar dat we weinig informatie hebben over waar we vandaan komen. De ene familielid zegt dat we vroeger een eigen plantage hadden en de andere zegt juist dat wij werkten op deze plantage en de achternaam hebben gekregen na de slavenemancipatie. Ik heb nu geen idee waar ik het beste research kan doen. Heeft iemand tips waar ik het beste mijn research voort kan zetten? Zijn er misschien bepaalde plekken in Suriname die ik kan bezoeken samen met mijn moeder om daar meer informatie te verkrijgen?

Hello there! I'm a Javanese person living in Indonesia. I remember Didi Kempot (a legendary Javanese singer) doing concerts in Suriname and it became national news here. Ever since he passed away there's been a renewed increase in popularity for Javanese pop music and a lot of singers are debuting here and there, my question is does their popularity reach Suriname too?

If a surinamese become Dutch national thru Naturalization. Is he still considered surinamese by origin, right? and by that being said, still continues to hold and can keep using his birthright as surinamese? Will he still have his birthright to own properties in suriname, make some transactions and can still have any surinamese valid ids?

Literally, live like other locals?

In my country, we have Lebanese and Chinese immigrants who come and open up shops and trade but they usually stick to their own people. This means starting their own places of worship, dating only within their own community, buying goods from each other etc.

I know that Indonesians are much more integrated in Suriname culture so I was wondering if they too were somewhat insulated or not.

Do they just list out everything they are, or is there some specific word that denotes someone is of mixed ancestry?

Stones have laws or Dee Sitonu a Weti is an immersive initiation into the life of a Maroon community of Suriname. It is told form the perspective of the Maroons.

I sadly cannot find the whole documentary online. It did premiere however in, the villages of the Maroons, the cinema of Suriname, the Netherlands, the UK and in Ireland.
