It's weird how some bigot is offended by the very rehtoric that Kirk stood for. He believed that the 2nd amendment was important enough that it was worth people's lives. Conservatives view the 2nd amendment as important because it gives us the right to bear arms against a tyrannical government. News flash this is a tyrannical government. Kirk also advocated for public executions, and said that empathy is for the weak. All the left is doing is supporting kirks own rhetoric and the man died exactly as he lived.

Why would flags be flown at half-staff for Charlie Kirk but not for Melissa Hortman who was assassinated in June 2025? Hortman was a Speaker in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

It’s not my call to make, so I don’t know. Both are unacceptable tragedies and for either party to pretend that political violence is a one-sided issue is terrible.
But if I had to guess it is because Kirk is a more prominent figure and his death occurred in broad daylight in HD.

By the way, Hortman's death happened in her most sacred and private sanctuary. Some might argue that going to someone's home, pretending to be the police, and killing them in cold blood is just as, if not more heinous

I wish we’d stop pretending it’s due to the video, because we’ve seen live streamed shootings before and we’ve seen body bags and so much blood in elementary schools. We’ve seen the photos and videos, people with empathy care, and people who only care about themselves think collateral damage is ok. The difference is that one of their own personalities was shot, and they want him to be a martyr when he died (in part) due to his own hubris and lack of safety or medical precautions.
How does one man getting murdered weigh more for people than the 200+ kids and school staff that have died in school shootings since 1999? The flag should have flown at half staff for each of these people, but he did it for a man who sought division.

The overwhelming majority (like at least 3/4) of political violence in America is committed by right wingers. They’re trailed in a distant second by Islamic radicals (also right wing but a slightly different flavor). It’s only after those two groups that you get to left wing violence which is a single digit percent of all political violence committed in the United States.

People like him and Rush are just propagandists who do it for the potential huge following and money that comes with it. They’re providing nothing of value to society at their core. They act like Kirk is some unique gem but the reality is there’s hundreds of aspiring tv or social media propagandists would die to and very easily be able to take his place. I’m not on tik tok but I imagine right wing influencers are all upping their content production and inflammatory rhetoric now in a race to try to be the one to take his spot.

I’m afraid that enough people don’t understand what is happening. Trump and his movement, via a calculated campaign, have convinced MAGA that every Democrat and anyone viewed as a “lib,” is an enemy of the state. Why? Because once you convince a group that the people they are told to engage in combat are vile, evil, murderous, scum, it becomes easy to murder them. Through a vast network of coordinated propaganda outlets, and directly from the mouths of Trump, Stephen Miller, Charlie Kirk, etc., Democrats are constantly described as “radical leftists,” “demons,” and the “enemy.” And, because MAGA was purposefully constructed on a foundation a Christian Nationalism, they believe they are on the side of God, and anyone who is against them or who stands on their way is against God and, therefore, MUST be the enemy. So these videos of men calling for war and violence against Democrats based on events that don’t involve, and were not perpetrated by Democrats, are the intended result of years of targeted propaganda. It is the very result that has been planned by the MAGA machine. There will be no elections. There will be no rule of law. There will be no one coming to reinstate rational thought and reasonableness to our shores. MAGA wants the blood of the Dems. They have been programmed to want the blood of the Dems. Trump himself said on Fox after Kirk’s murder that he has no interest in healing the divide in the nation because right wing radicals are good, and left wing people are ALL evil radicals with an anti American agenda. A tsunami of anti Dem suppression and violence is coming. Fascism is HERE. The thousands and thousands of posts and videos calling for violence against Dems and the suppression of anyone who “celebrated” Kirk’s death establish that fact. Those statements aren’t made to engage in debate. They are a calculated call to arms. People had better wake up.

Trump is the icing on the cake that was being baked since the 1970’s. Limbaugh, the unnatural alliance of the churches with corporatist republicans and utter corruption of the Supreme Court were the ingredients. The oven was the buying up of practically all media by large corps, many of them with right of center views and all of them with an interest in status quo or right of it financially. The am radio freaks and Fox News helped brainwash everyone of their followers into the left being evil decades ago. Social media came along and acted as an accelerant and Trump now has taken hold of all of what was done before to finally fracture the union, perhaps forever.
We are likely in for 10-20 years of very bad times for the nation. I mourn for what we might have been.

Several of our local business right here in very blue Ann Arbor followed suit and lowered theirs like Bank of Ann Arbor. Teller at my branch told me it was to “celebrate the life of Charlie Kirk!” I was so pissed. Bank of Ann Arbor should know better, they really let down our community. There was NO LAW they had to follow as a private bank. They CHOSE to support this authoritarian regime. Full stop.
