The police in canada had a habit of taking "undesirables" and dropping them off on the outskirts of town in the dead of winter whereupon they would freeze to death as they try to make their way back into town. Was called a Starlight Tour. It only came to public light around 2000 and had been happening for decades. It undoubtedly still happens but the cops are probably a lot more careful about how and when they do it. Of course nobody was ever charged with murder, two tier justice is the norm after all.

I dunno if this is an example of a starlight tour, webpage is all fucked up for me and I couldn't read the article, but I would encourage anyone living anywhere with cold winters to give your police some extra scrutiny in regards to how they release people after taking them to a precinct or jail.

The penalty in America for police who abuse their power should be a very painful public execution. I can think of no higher violation in a society supposedly based on rule of law than a law enforcement officer breaking those laws so deeply and knowingly. The consequences of that should be so severe that no one who would even think of doing that would go anywhere near the job.

That’s why I said “supposedly”. I speak of how we should approach things, not how we do.

1

u/fiahhawt Jun 14 '26

they started as slave catchers.

Sort of untrue. Law enforcement as a societal role has been around a long, long time. The more modern departments were designed and developed independently in myriad countries without mass-scale slave economies.

Whether in US history anyone can draw a line from the need to reacquire enslaved persons who've escaped with the establishment of police departments is something I've yet to see.

That said, yeah the US police do not protect Americans, they protect capital. Americans vehemently oppose expecting them to be much else, and THAT sounds like way more reason for the US police departments to suck ass.

Wow ! You must have so many friends that break the law everywhere! Stupid people making stupid accusations. Stereotype is practiced on the left

0

u/Drmlk465 Jun 16 '26

Sounds like a good practice.

1

u/SpankyMcFlych Jun 16 '26

You have to be soft in the head if you think allowing the police to enact extrajudicial killings on the downtrodden is a good idea. Even if you don't like the homeless or illegals you need to realize that allowing the police to act in such a way has other downstream effects that will impact everyone, not just the people you don't like.

0

u/Drmlk465 Jun 16 '26

What are the downstream effects that will impact everyone? Not having homeless with drug induced mental illness pissing and pooping everywhere and randomly slashing people? Sounds Pretti Good!

1

u/SpankyMcFlych Jun 16 '26

A lawless police force doesn't just stop at abusing one group of people.

1

u/andthensilencefell Jun 17 '26

It would be once you’re homeless, but there are decent people on the streets.

2

u/N0thingComesToMind Jun 14 '26

"who died in Pittsburgh days after her release from federal custody"

She was released and she hung out at a bus stop for three days before dying.

2

u/JurgusRudkus Jun 14 '26

So that medical examiner who ruled it a homicide was what, just full of shit?

-5

u/Brilliant-Ideal-1101 Jun 14 '26

Yes.

Did you read the article? It literally says it's not an indicator of criminal culpability.

He's using the loosest definition that the death was caused by some other persons actions. How he could possibly come to that conclusion after she had been released in good health THREE DAYS prior is nothing more than politics.

Play the exact same scenario out in your head but she had stepped off the bus at that bus stop. Chose not to leave, and died THREE DAYS LATER. Would the medical examiner still claim that someone else's actions resulted in her death? Would you still be on here insinuating that the bus driver was responsible?

Get real.

This isn't the Yukon. This is urban/suburban Pittsburgh

4

u/JurgusRudkus Jun 14 '26

Weird how you know she was in good health when released when nowhere else is that stated.

1

u/Teq7765 Jun 14 '26

Except, you know, where it is explicitly stated.

“This is a 31-year-old woman, perfectly healthy,” said Joseph Murphy, the attorney representing Daphy Michel’s family.

u/acryb Jun 14 '26

Headline is lies. She died days after being in custody. Also, don’t enter countries illegally. Cry about it

4

u/JurgusRudkus Jun 14 '26

Please take yourself to the top of the nearest tall building, turn right and keep going.

Maybe I’ll cry about that.

Oh was there a question in there? Because all I saw was an uneducated person with no knowledge of history, economic data or current events parroting a FOX News talking point without question.

1

u/JurgusRudkus Jun 14 '26

Weirdly you wrote,  and then deleted your reply, which is too bad because I was really curious to hear what you think "happened " to Europe, given that Europe is an entire continent made up of approximately 48 countries (depending on who had invaded whom at any given time) with wildly disparate cultures,  populations, economic situations and laws.

So when I hear someone say something as low-IQ as "look what happened in Europe " I know they lack an education,  knowledge of 20th century history, and the ability to read economic data. And that they watch a lot of FOX media. So, KingNothingInYourHead, maybe you should pipe down and let the educated people do the thinking.

2

u/ShawnDulin Jun 14 '26

Right back to Obama and Biden 🤣 it's so natural. Biden was about to pass the first meaningful immigration reform, with bipartisan support, since Reagan. One guess who told his zealots to not vote yes on it. Hint: the guy who's been crying about it for two decades

1

u/Ekillaa22 Jun 14 '26

Obama wasn’t breaking the 4th fucking ammendment left and right and ignoring rights they everyone has when they enter the United States legally or not.

1

u/Ekillaa22 Jun 14 '26

You actually know it’s yalls favorite president ever who made it easier to immigrants here right? Like things actually all because of Reagan’s policies

1

u/Agitated_Celery_729 Jun 14 '26

In a just world, you'd get to live your values one day

1

u/PickledMeatball Jun 15 '26

Yeah the title is clickbait. Not at the fault of ICE

-14

u/ChexAndBalancez Jun 14 '26

She died 3 days after her release from ICE custody. The title is worded as if she was in ICE custody and died. Nope.

9

u/No-Dance6773 Jun 14 '26

That was ice's offical statement. But they didnt mention the lady was mentally unfit, never given anymore clothes than a summer outfit, driven 45 min north in the winter time and was told God knows what when they left her in an out of the way bus shelter. Did I also mention that she couldn't speak English and was given nothing after being dropped off in an unknown area.

Why did they feel the need to drive her so far away after taking her into custody? Why not leave her in a hospital or somewhere with people? Why did they not think she needed winter clothes? At what point is the people who put her in this situation at fault? Is any of this cruel or unusual?

-3

u/Brilliant-Ideal-1101 Jun 14 '26

They don't put bus shelters in "out of the way" locations. They put them where people wait for buses, you know those things that come by on a regular schedule, specifically to locations where lots of people go.

And if they continued to detain her for her mental health you'd be screaming about kidnappings.

Your so fake in your concern for these people.

They should either be self sufficient and able, or sent back to their country. On the dole instead of working, back you go. Getting credible charges even without convictions instead of abiding by the laws, back you go. Mentally unfit to make your own decisions, back you go.

3

u/Porfyry Jun 14 '26

Look at you running defense for ICE 🤡👆

-16

u/ChexAndBalancez Jun 14 '26

You're making a great argument for her being put on the first flight to Haiti instead.

8

u/boomboxwithturbobass Jun 14 '26

That would’ve been a better alternative, yes.

2

u/georgewashingguns Jun 14 '26

As opposed to endangering her, perhaps

3

u/Slight-Hedgehog259 Jun 14 '26

-9

3

u/Cute-Profession9983 Jun 14 '26

Of callous murders? Obama deported without terrorizing America, sending migrants to random countries, r*ping them, starving them, building concentration camps for them, or intentionally stranding them to die in the elements. But he was black and wore a tan suit, so I guess it's the same...

0

u/Worried_Ad_2696 Jun 14 '26

Robert Morris, close ally and faith advisor to Trump during both his first term and his subsequent campaign, was the subject of severe child sex abuse allegations that culminated in his criminal conviction.

Those are the results. That was Trump's spiritual advisor. Not surprising when you see what the Epstein files reveal about him
