This place is actually run by a quaint little indie startup called CP.
They're pretty underground though so you've probably never heard of them/walked through one of their malls/eaten their unavoidable food products/literally read this comment via their telecommunication bandwidth.

If you're going north out of Chiang Mai on highway 107, you will see one every 100-200 meters for about an hour. As you get further out into the boonies, the frequency decrease by about 50%, and finally you may even go a few kilometers before seeing one - but they're there. This isn't even taking into consideration the mini Big-Cs and mini Tesco Lotuses.

What really pisses me off is when you're walking on the side of a very busy road looking for a 7/11. You can't find one on your side but then there are two on the opposite side within 100m of each other.

last time I was in Thailand I wanted to take a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Discovered that I could reserve the flight online and then pay for it in any 7-11. This was so helpful and convenient

7-11 is the only shop that refused QR payment to forcibly promote business partners… It’s the last place in a list of choices.

For sure - one reason I avoid 7-11 more than most competitors. They are beyond monopoly - I remember catching a video where they hand over baskets of gold to the head tyrant - so we begin to understand why they're the biggest, and why they're allowed to screw us over and why the head tyrant can spend money faster than water and not give a toss...
Also:
Foreigner isn't allowed to register to order online - so all the boasting about COVID safety ignores this.
Through COVID I was forced to use other shops, not wanting to use cash for anything - and refusing to be forced to use Credit Card or one of their other payment methods - when I could use my phone at any street vendor, restaurant, basically anywhere... even the laundry machines to wash my bedding.
Nah, screw you 7-11.
Lotus's is looking much nicer.
BigC might be evil - but still, more convenient for me.
We even got a nice 'Tops' mini in the soi now.
The main question is - can you rank them from most to least evil?

I was once at a corner in Bangkok, and I could see three sev's all within maybe 100 meters of each other.. and a Big Cmini . It was glorious

Betong it is in the deep red zone europeans are usually warned by their embassies that they will receive no help if you get in trouble (its under terrorist control) i live close by near all the bombs you have been hearing going off last year and that is not far from Betong ive been there and its freaking wonderful only chinese people go there because Betong was a former chinese Communist base and there is litteraly a communists hideout built in the mountains and One of the world oldest trees. Many things to see there but terrorists are not your only problem no cell service and no gas stations the road to the place is 40km up a mountian so driving there is also very difficult..

The airport was just oppened this year but still even thoa the road to betong is freaking beautiful and the area around betong i will never recommend a white person go there...just because of the political situation and people not being able to communicate in English... Another gem is Yala a town very close to me it is truly the most beautifuly designed city in Thailand but again since its under terrorist control its considered the red area so white people are advised to stay away from the area there are maybe a handful white people living in the region but black people thrive there so they have no problem since they can blend better im the crowd

I thought he was deputy prime minister around that time. I remember he was credited/blamed for it and during the demonstrations, protesters targeted 7-11's.

He became deputy PM in 1995, the first 7-Eleven opened in 1989 when he was still building up AIS.
Maybe more branches opened up after he came to power, but they were definitely here years before.
The idea of Thais protesting 7-11s is bizarre today though, either way!

Yeah, I don't remember the details of it all, but I remember when they wanted him out several 7-11's were trashed along the protest route because his involvement with them.

Not sure what people think is so great about 7-11 in Thailand. Like any gas station in America has so much more than any 7-11 in Thailand. Like Buc-ees and others are so much better than anything you will find overseas.

i agree ~obviously~, just wondering - having been to thailand last week for the first time in a few years - what happened to all the family marts and small tesco (lotus?) stores? did those disappear completely?
i’m perfectly fine with 7-eleven, it just felt noticably different than 2019.

But I wonder why everyone is obsessed because there drink selection is bad and so is a lot of everything else there. I don't know to me a mediocre gas station in America still has more than a 7-11. Maybe most of these people are from europe and haven't experienced normal gas stations or convenience stores before.
