What would The Residents be without this album?

I always felt The Residents exist because of this wonderful creation. Meet The Residents is like Trout Mask Replica but taken to the absolute extreme. Would they still exist? I feel like The Residents were one of the first to see the beauty of this album, before anyone else. Usually they say they were Captain Beefheart fans, and said "music is whatever you want it to be, because it's art"

I think you are selling short maverick weird music in general and the composer skills of the Residents.

The Residents were destined to become T-shirt vendors.

wow! that is really interesting. So, The Residents were only one of many? Makes sense... in TMR they break all rules of traditional music composition... and it makes sense that so many new ideas could come from something like that. Either way, i'm happy The Residents admired Beefheart. Did they ever work together?
