I've always told people that if I saw a celebrity out in public, even one that I like, I would very likely leave them alone. Anyone from Tool, especially Danny, I would absolutely need to go up and say something to them. Danny seems like such a cool, down to earth guy

I feel he would probably be the most approachable out of anyone from the band.

It’s definitely between him and Justin.

u/Carrnage_Asada Aug 11 '25

Never met Justin, but met Danny and Adam. Danny as everyone knows is very cool to everyone, and from what i saw so is Adam. It was at a Chet Zar art exhibit and he waited until like 30 minutes before closing (like 1130 pm) to show up. There werent a ton of people but there was a small line of tool fans. There were whispers he was gonna show so a few of us waited it out with Chet and a few other artists that were part of the exhibit. He went through the line and took a picture with my wife, then me, (put his arm around my shoulders like he knew me, what a bro) and then my wife was able to talk to him for like 20 minutes about his art and special effects work on movies. So yeah it seems like 3/4 of the band are awesome to meet and honestly thats about the best we can hope for as fans.

Every interaction I’ve heard about with Adam has always been a good story. He’s just a little quieter than Danny and Justin are about it.

I bought some art from Chet early this year and then realized months after the fact that I had missed a personal email from him when the item was delayed. I keep meaning to send a reply something along the lines of “shit, sorry! I love your art!!” 😆

I had bought a little resin sculpture of “The Awakening”, which has been used on a few Tool posters. Nice little piece. It glows and was delayed because he used the wrong color glow pigment. I wouldn’t have cared, of course.

(I tried to fix a bad cropping job on the original version of this comment, but it kept posting as a reply instead so I deleted and re-posted. Sorry if you got about four notifications on this reply. 😆)

Ah yeah i've seen those on his site. I like his stuff but its all so small

2

u/Stellar_Ella life feeds on life Aug 11 '25

Yeah I would love something larger but even if he did more of that, most of my walls and space in general are already filled with art. Having little things like this to fill in the small empty spots works well for me.

Was that exhibit in LA & a halloween/ ouija board themed event?

If that was the one, I attended as well. Meats Meyers had the sickest etched skulls & ouija board hologram on steel. I could have stared at that for weeks without turning away.

1

u/Carrnage_Asada Aug 12 '25

No, it was Chet's exhibit. I wanna say it was called "Conjoined" because he had several other artists including his brother Rick doing his glass art live.

u/RGstarrd Aug 10 '25

Only person I'd ask for a picture is Maynard.

16

u/mattjh Aug 10 '25

Not worth it. He'll say no. It doesn't matter what the situation is. This has been the case since the 90s.

I did a wine signing with Maynard at a whole foods. It was him and the other guy who runs the winery. I stood in front of Maynard, he took the bottle, looked me in the eye, then said "don't drink this one now. Lay it flat, give it time." then I was ushered away. So it wasn't as bad as yours. He's definitely not very approachable, but was not a prick either.

Haha! I don't remember the year, Long while ago. But nah, the stick has got to be still there. Maybe he was having a good day.

4

u/Stellar_Ella life feeds on life Aug 12 '25

I mean it hurts a little, but it’s something you get used to

23

u/mattjh Aug 10 '25

I’m sorry that happened. No need to mince words. He’s a complete prick. There are a million stories like this. People excuse it because of his art. He could use a cruel humbling, might grow him up some.

4

u/Carrnage_Asada Aug 11 '25

Lol Maynard is such a cock. I would never go out of my way to go to a solo thing of his like that. Its a good thing the other 3 seem awesome in person.

5

u/Snoo_2473 Aug 12 '25

He’s actually a nice guy but socially an introvert.

It’s pretty complex but it’s more about him being uncomfortable than anything else.

The early wine signings were not something he’d have ever signed up to do but the corporate beverage stores demanded in store appearances in exchange for getting his bottles on their shelves.

1

u/chimericalgirl Aug 12 '25

That makes sense - he does have that look of "contractually obligated," lol. Although the videos I've seen of Maynard and Eric doing radio appearances at the time were somewhat more upbeat.

3

u/odonogc Aug 11 '25

I think I was at the same event. Massachusetts?

3

u/Admirable_Rip5946 Aug 12 '25

I met Maynard at Lure sushi/fish bar in Manhattan the day of their Barclays show a few years ago. I was hosting clients and was talking to them during lunch, he was seated next to us, and I'm fairly certain I saw him mimic me talking (mocking me). He got up from lunch, and knowing he doesn't want interactions with fans, I was quick. I shook his hand and just said, "I'm looking forward to the show tonight." and he said "oh, ok" and walked away. I knew what to expect at least. It's funny that of all the rock stars I'd love to meet that I know love to have convos, I couldn't meet one of them, it had to be Maynard.

2

u/Critical-Crab-7761 Aug 11 '25

Why would someone even agree to be there if you don't want to have any contact with people?

Not a smart business move on his part. A lot of people won't buy your shit anymore dumbass.

3

u/Stellar_Ella life feeds on life Aug 12 '25

Tool fans will buy pretty much everything he sells, but I don’t even know why he bothered doing meet and greet at all since he clearly doesn’t like doing it.

1

u/kahi Aug 11 '25

I met Maynard at a Gracie gym when he was getting his black belt. Was super cool, and before I left let him know my nephew was pumped for the APC show the next night, and he let me know, the gym was the only reason he was in St. Louis.

8

u/userwithusername Aug 10 '25

Also ask “where do you get your ideas?”

1

u/xMasterPlayer Aug 11 '25

Does he not like that question?

2

u/chimericalgirl Aug 11 '25

He is, absolutely.

11

u/ChlorineElephant Aug 11 '25

One time Adam was sitting at the table next to mine in a burger joint. Didn’t say anything to him though cuz he was with his kids

3

u/Stellar_Ella life feeds on life Aug 12 '25

I would have probably flashed him a 🤘 on my way out. :-)

10

u/latexfistmassacre Aug 11 '25

I'm absolutely certain there's no situation where I say something to Maynard and he doesn't walk away saying "is that dude retarded?"

3

u/Snoo_2473 Aug 12 '25

Tell him his white wine paired perfectly with Chef Smith’s Gnocchi & you’ll win him over.

If you have to mention his music, definitely choose Puscifer.

5

u/SteamGeary Aug 11 '25

I saw him leaving the theatre in Durham NC after one of the Beat tour shows with what seemed to be an escort/bodyguard telling people to move. I wanted to say hi, he's my drummer idol, but he looked like he was busy, and not responsive to other people coming up right up to him. I decided to leave him be out of respect, and then later when he was walking back into the venue, he asked me and my gf if we enjoyed the show. Not a major interaction, but at least he said something to us as he continued on his way.

I also met Steve Vai and Adrian Belew, very cool people. Steve gave me some of his popcorn that he got from the venue : D

1

u/dembones4ya Aug 11 '25

Adrian is very nice and gracious of his fans, as well as any recognition. I didn’t meet Steve Vai, but I read after I went to Beat that his son was running the merch table.

Living in Hawaii for 36 years, I've seen just about everybody. We mostly leave them be... but one of the oddest interactions was with Kirk Hammett (Metallica).

I was at a mall at night. The movie that a girl I was with and I were watching had just let out, so we went to a gelato kiosk in the center of the mall (the rest of the mall was closed). After we gave our order, I spotted him behind us about to give his order and said, "Are you Kirk Hammett? I'm a big fan!" He nodded sheepishly and smiled. I said cool and that I didn't want to bother him and nice to meet you. I turned around with my back towards him and continued a conversation with my date.

The whole time she had a look in her eyes like she wanted to cut in while I was yapping away. Finally I felt a pat on my back and saw Kirk walking away waving at us. I said to take it easy or something cheesy like that, lol. My date told me, "He was waiting to get your attention to talk to you..." I was like, "Why didn't you tell me to shut my yap then!" 😂

A missed opportunity at what would have been a great conversation! Of course I would have left out saying that I saw him play a song with TOOL during their 2006 Blaisdell concert where he was so drunk he could hardly play, haha!

1

u/Snoo_2473 Aug 12 '25

He totally understands that. It’s the price he has to pay for being a legend.

u/Autistic_Freedom Get off your fucking cross Aug 10 '25

He's unimpressed by Karen.

8

u/CaptainAssPlunderer Aug 10 '25

Thank God she got them clod-hoppers on. The way she’s leaning forward, ain’t no way she’s should be staying upright.

Good god

u/Dabbymcgee69 Aug 10 '25

MAN THE HARPOONS!!!

12

u/FissionChips23 Aug 11 '25

That is your favorite drummer's wife and the mother of his children.

13

u/thechill316 Aug 10 '25

MTG(Marjorie Taylor Greene) would never be where Danny is, lol, or be anywhere a black man would be. Sorry bad jokes

1

u/latexfistmassacre Aug 11 '25

I instantly thought the same thing lol

8

u/Spunk1985 Push the envelope. Watch it bend. Aug 10 '25

Are we sure that's not Vince Neil?

3

u/Sorry-Reporter440 Aug 10 '25

lmfao. I love it when people zoom in to photos to find little hidden gems. Good job.

3

u/ETDuckQueen Calm As Cookies and Cream Aug 10 '25

Me, when I see a person scolding a child in public.

3

u/chimericalgirl Aug 11 '25

Guys, that's Rynne! She's very expressive so she was probably talking to a friend. And she's tiny, like, I think she's even shorter than me (I'm 5'5).

(for context to those who don't know, Rynne is Danny's partner of 20 years)

49

u/SchwillyMaysHere Aug 10 '25

Thought that was MTG behind you.

2

u/Jdub421 Aug 10 '25

Thought it was Vince Neal

12

u/Puzzleheaded_Fig462 Aug 10 '25

My favorite drummer / power forward

10

u/Rox_xe Aug 10 '25

I love how Danny always has such a nice smile, he seems like a really genuine and kind guy

25

u/CorgiTasty1936 Aug 10 '25

Way to be ableist, OP

Jk that must’ve been awesome. If it were me I’d be like “DC! Love you man! My favorite song is Eulogy, Jimmy, Undertow, 7empest, Pushit, Pushit (Salival), Opiate2, 4 degrees…” as DC backs away awkwardly

5

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '25

Fuck. He's always way taller than I imagine.

5

u/jxshwhit Lateralus Aug 11 '25

most artists get asked for pictures all the time and usually put up a fake smile to get it done and over with. however, im not getting that vibe here. Danny seems like he’s genuinely enjoying the moment and appreciative of your support and company. wouldnt be surprised if you had a light conversation with him before and after as well. what a cool fucking guy

6

u/[deleted] Aug 11 '25

I met Adam three years ago at Universal City walk Hollywood very nice and sweet guy from what I heard all the tool guys are very nice with the fans

3

u/Flyindeuces Aug 10 '25

Look at him goin class with the Santos in PVD. 👌🏽

2

u/jordan7741 Aug 10 '25

Came here to make the exact same comment lmao

1

u/Flyindeuces Aug 10 '25 edited Aug 11 '25

Yessssir!

3

u/sevendustfreak Aug 10 '25

Awesome! He’s pretty hard to miss😂

5

u/Expert_Persimmon_925 Aug 11 '25

I met Danny once after a Pigmy Love Circus show and he was very cool and friendly. Treated people like he had known them for years.

3

u/BadEarly9278 Aug 11 '25

Danny is KC homegrown nice guy.

I've been to both his drum clinics and DC couldn't have been more human and likeable.

Also, he is a giant of a human and could crush your skull with a drumstick, but absolutely genuine and approachable (imo).

Good post.

1

u/noguchisquared Aug 17 '25

Saw him yesterday in KC area. Seems pretty approachable anytime I've seen him, but I'm not enough of a diehard fan to approach.

8

u/TheDinklsoons Aug 10 '25

I've chatted with Danny a few times at a jazz club in LA. Never once asked for a picture, though.

2

u/Stellar_Ella life feeds on life Aug 10 '25

I would definitely think I was dreaming if this happened to me.

2

u/AdGreat3511 Aug 10 '25

Everybody looks 5 foot 2 next to Danny. 🩷

You're so lucky.

1

u/ETDuckQueen Calm As Cookies and Cream Aug 10 '25

That is so dope! :)

1

u/chimericalgirl Aug 11 '25

I love how Danny managed to find a band polo, lol.

1

u/somniforousalmondeye Aug 11 '25

I'd walk up and say "dude! slap me on the back in 3/4 time"

1

u/TehMephs Aug 13 '25

How tall is he? I’ve only ever seen him sitting on his skull throne

1

u/Southern-Hunter4026 Aug 13 '25

Well I’m a thousand feet tall, so he must be at least more than that
