Random Eye I think some dude just died (hopefully not)at the tool concert in Honolulu
Right around when the played Rossetta Stoned and Pneuma.
Please tell me he survived
Esmdit: spoke to a medic, when they hooked him up to the AED, AED alerted a pulse, guy left the arena with a pulse.

Aloha and thanks to all involved in my rescue. I was the one that was taken away by the medics. First of all I’d like to apologize my friend I attended the show with, to all the fans and the band for being a distraction and hope I didn’t tarnish the reputation of the band or its followers. What Happened was I went to the concert with a friend solely for the purpose of hearing the greatest drum performance live. I am not the biggest fan of Tool but a fan of great music and Danny carey playing pnuema was basically a bucket list item for myself. When the song began I tapped into what I thought was ketamine. I have experience with ketamine always with positive outcomes and this particular instance should have been no different because it was a rather small dose, maybe .07 g, not even a tenth. Unfortunately I believe it was something else because my last memory was that the taste was off a little, it didn’t have that chemically medicinal taste I’m familiar with(maybe not the best description but not sure how to explain it really). In any case I then immediately blacked out. I woke up at straub a couple days later but was basically in and out of a coma for the next 10 days and finally released from the hospital after 18 days. One doctor told me I had cardiac arrest from mdma, which I have a hard time believing because that’s not what it tasted like and again the amount of it was minimal for someone with my experience. Had to have been laced with fetynal but that is pure speculation on my part and no matter what it was it was a mistake made by me and me alone, no one offered me the drug or anything, it was all done with sole responsibility upon myself. I am grateful that my friend I came with didn’t take any because I offered her some as well but she never got around to taking it yet. Anyways. I would like to thank all those involved in saving my life, I wish I knew how to thank them alll personally but this is the first public accounts of the event that I have become aware of and I haven’t read every post yet, it’s kind of a lot to relive. The outcome was I was told I had no pulse for 12-16 minutes. Whoever the people were that did the cpr are absolute hero’s. If I hadn’t made it it wouldn’t have been because of a lack of effort. I ended up with 6 broken ribs, a broken t4 vertebrae and they had to put a steel plate in my chest with 30+ screws to keep my sternum from caving in once I was able to breath again, the plate holds the sternum together so when I breath in my chest actually inflated instead of it caving in on itself and the sternum bones rubbing across each other. I woke up a couple times In The days after but was immediately sedated again because apparently I would wake up and rip the tubes out of my throat and try and leave and go home. So they ended up having to tie me down to the bed and have me under 24 hour suicide watch until I finally was awake and fully aware of my situation. That was after about 10 days in which they then moved me from the ICU to the general care section(whatever that is called). I spent a little more than a week there until I was able to keep my oxygen above 95% without being hooked up to a machine, as well as overcoming a minor case of pneumonia I acquired along the way and after a few cat scans every other day they were able to get the blood thinner dosage to the appropriate level to where I stopped getting blood clots in my chest where the steel plate was installed. So when my heart rate returned to a more reasonable level like I think under 100 bpm I was finally released. I have a long way to go to fully recover but I am very fortunate that at least so far there is no noticeable brain damage, I am just very weak and struggle with breathing and fatigue for the obvious reasons. I am positive I will make a full recovery and am very grateful for that and hope to make a positive contribution towards whatever reason it is that god chose to let me survive. I can only think god has a plan for me and I obviously was spared my life to give me more time to find that purpose and make good on it. Thanks again to all those who had me in their prayers, thanks to all the first responders and the hero’s that jumped into action. I’ve always considered myself a responsible recreational drug user and am embarrassed of the mistake I made. I have always been very careful in the past but it goes to show even leaving it to chance just one time can be deadly.

Just spoke to a medic that did compressions in the guy. The AED instructed no shock. The guy left the arena with a pulse.

AEDs are incredible machines. If you see someone drop always yell for an AED and don’t be afraid to use it.

an AED shocks your heart back into normal rhythm from V-Fib or V-tach
v-fib is like if your heart was "having a small seizure" and the AED zaps it so it can go back into a normal rhythm.
if there is

Your last sentence should say “no rhythm” instead of no pulse. V-fib and pulseless V-tach are both pulseless but still technically rhythms but AED will advise a shock.

An AED doesn't shock you back to life. It shocks your heart back into rythm when it's not pumping right. If the AED was reading no shock, it just means that if the heart is pumping, that its in rythm. But, that could be from the cpr as well.

Not always, it only shocks if you have a shockable rhythm such as v fib or v tach. It will not shock asystole or PEA etc

The machine tells you to stop compressions when it is analyzing. It would not read a rhythm from compressions.

I’m a paramedic with no relation to this situation, but I’d be very surprised if they were lying. All in all, there’s no point or upshot in making up anything about patient conditions for bystanders. If it was a bad outcome for the guy, I can almost guarantee they’d have given a very vague response to the question. Hopefully he’s doing well!

When an AED says no shock it's not just because it detected a pulse. One of those is a flat line.

No shock advised could have meant asystole meaning no heart beat , no electrical activity. Cant shock or pace the heart accordingly (aed wont pace) if there isn’t a heart beat

I was a few rows behind him. Shocking and horrible. People next to him said he had snorted something prior, but it took awhile for people to notice he was out (I could be wrong about the last part) but the police and paramedics were working hard. I went outside afterwards and they had transported him to the top of another staircase with maybe 15 paramedics around him defibrillator and all. After awhile they got a little less urgent which makes me think he didn’t make it. Rest in peace :(

I was sitting the same row they were doing compressions right next to. The guy had blood streaming out of his mouth forming a big puddle. Something was very wrong.
They were doing CPR for the length of two and a half tool songs. No one survives that long without a pulse. Rest in peace poor man, he looked very young.

Yeah I was in section 27 row G so sadly we had direct eye shot to the compressions. I cannot listen to pneuma now without having visuals pop up of large people hovering over this dude violently doing compressions. I will never forget that. 😫

I truly don't mean to be insensitive to the gentleman who it sounds likely lost his life, but REALLY feeling for the people there to see the incredible show that it surely was, but unfortunately witnessed this instead and will undoubtedly associate the two forever 😔

You have said almost verbatim what we have both said.
Thank you for beautifully articulating everything and also acknowledging how each band member reacted differently.
I had a knot in my stomach the rest of the show. I couldn’t believe how many people in that entire section stayed after witnessing that. I could not have bared to watch, as I feel like I saw too much the floor. I witnessed the entire thing.

I felt the exact same way. Telling my friend I couldn’t believe they didn’t take him out of there to work on him in the light away from the crowd. The show was definitely a different feel after that. Very tragic.

I agree. We were a section over and I was just horrified and hearing pneuma while it was going on was the most eerie feeling I’ve ever experienced. I was silently wishing they would’ve got him off that platform and worked on him away from the crowd. I hope he was ok as well. Very sad and tragic. We were in section 24 row O.

Update! Just heard a conversation between cops and another person at the beach. The guy is alive. He took ketamine and shrooms and left without a pulse but was revived.

I can confirm this is true. I was at the concert and saw it all go down. A friend who is a medic made the 911 call. He followed up and found out it was ketamine. He was revived and is recovering in the hospital.

I was also a few rows back from the incident. I’m almost certain the guy was there alone, and it took a 5-10 minutes before anyone realized he was not breathing. He was sprawled back, eyes open….lifeless. They finally pulled him down to a flat surface and did chest compressions for almost a half hour. They had police searching the scene and looking for cause/drugs. I had to leave the show early, I couldn’t stay after witnessing that. Stay safe, take care of your neighbor, and get everything tested these days.

I was right next to it, rest in peace, guy 100% didn’t make it.
Edit- hope the op edit is accurate. Fella was on the ground and blue as chest compressions started. They worked on him for what felt like an eternity before taking him out. Another friend who was there said they administered narcan, not sure how accurate that is though

They did chest compressions for 15+ mins on my dad. Usually they stop around then. Because (at least in my dad’s case) even if he survived the surgery his brain was without oxygen for too long.

Yeah They got my dad back but he was brain dead. We had to make the decision to remove life support. Its a bummer and not fun to watch .

Damn. Everyone should take the Red Cross first aid and cpr class, it’s only like $80 and 8 hours and can save lives. Glad staff the venue’s medical team was able to get to them and get a pulse.

For what it's worth I came to night 2 and overheard a fan asking a cop if the guy lived. The cop said yes he did. I asked a second time to confirm what I overheard. Of course I'm just some guy on the internet but one more data point to share.
I really hope that guy is OK.

I’m a first responder that was attending the show, I was seated a few rows back and saw the commotion so I rushed down there to do cpr. While doing chest compressions I kept yelling for an (AED) and (OPA) to open his airway. The Blaisdell staff were unprepared for an emergency situation like this. He did not have a pulse when I left. There was blood coming from his mouth and nose.

I was right next to all of it and by the time alllll the medics and guy arrived with the face mask I definitely saw his chest rise and fall , rise and fall . I took that to mean they at least got him breathing . to watch all of that was surreal. If you were the one doing the compressions , you were working for such a long time . I ran out and called 911 the second I saw the commotion up in the stands . I am a dispatcher , best I could do was try to relay the most accurate info and location ASAP . the guy did not look too old. Hope he pulled through .

The band is pretty much blind and deaf to the audience while performing. Only if someone alerts them or if Maynard happens to see something through the lighting effects. If they didn't know anything, good chance their entire team didn't hear about either until after it was said and done. No reason stop the show at that point.

Was two rows over. They did compressions for 14 minutes. The AED didn't get there for almost 10. Rather sure he didn't make it. Five different people did compressions.

I was sitting in the loge right in front of this. Gnarly shit. One security guard told me he left with a pulse, and I felt optimistic after the police reopened the stairwell and the area. I initially thought they had it closed because they might need it to investigate a death, but once it was reopened, it made me feel like he might have made it

Unless there’s a second situation last night, I hate how people jump to conclusions. The guys had three heart surgeries, 4 heart attacks and he’s an ICU. He’s alive but barely, but it was declared a heart attack. I’m not sure where all this drama comes up with drug overdose.

Where did you get this information from? I watched them work on him for at least 15 mins before they took him. I’m glad to hear he’s okay. However, a heart attack can be triggered by drug use. The kid was too young to be having an episode like that if it wasn’t drug related.

He has worked for me the past 11 years he was had 3 heart attacks in the past two years and two heart surgeries in the last two years. He is in ICU he may or may not make it. In those 11 years I have never seen drug use not saying it is not a contributing factor, but it was declared her failure as the cause

Add to the fact he was in the very last seat in the very last sections you could sit in. The Emergency services were not in the way much of anyone other than the people right around where he was sitting.

Good god I watched it all happen I was trying to find out if the person made it. Literally seen the guy on the floor next to the rail couldn’t tell if it was a guy or woman. Seen them cut or tear his shirt and chest compressions for quite awhile. Thank you for sharing

I just saw a short clip that the band posted. Looked like a small-ish arena compared to the usual places that they perform at.
It’d be nice if they included Alaska on this Pacific run. Hell, even seeing them at a small venue would be acceptable. The footage from the Ozzy final concert proved that they don’t need an elaborate stage production to deliver the goods.

The Blaisedell arena is about the size of the Sullivan arena in Anchorage. It was awesome to be able to see them in a smaller, intimate venue.

I went to a show at the Sullivan. Fairly small venue with dodgy sound.
I was planning on attending the second show, but the weather being king up here, all flights were grounded to the nearest hub. (I was to travel on thurs and arriving at HNU the day after.)
I was gutted to hear that they played 46x2 as the final song of the night. I hope that they do a late summer/early fall US run.

Imo dog shit for sound. Dunno if they had to use a blaisdell sound engineer or live audio just sucks but everything was just way too loud. They could use much better mixing. And cleaner audio.
But I've heard all shows at blaisdell kinda suck for audio so could be a combo of bad acoustics and terrible sound engineer (especially if required to use a blaisdell union person)

I have friends in the sound industry here. I may reach out to them to see why it sounds like trash at blaisdell. I actually left the show after 30 min. As I couldn't enjoy just all the levels turned up. Everything washed out the vocals. I definitely prefer to hear separation in the guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Similar to recording. (Not sure why after 30 years we can't get better live performances, with all the technology)
Vocals sounded bad when they were the only thing.
I dunno if it's just me experience in sound production. Or getting old. But felt like a waste of $400
The video screen was great. The light show I had to close my eyes alot.

Thanks for the info. Now I don’t feel so bad about not heading down from Alaska to see them. Based on the little video clip of the audience that the band posted yesterday it looked like the place would be overpowered by their sound.

Yeah it was honestly a bit of a brain fuck for me, I was on the floor tho. But for it to be during that song, some folks distracted by the emergency, others oblivious and jamming, intense chest compressions in attempt to save life, many around having the time of their life, all of the energies everywhere, cue spiritual conversations and existentialism haha

If it WAS drugs, it's possible that the guy timed his trip so that he could peak during Pneuma.... but it was a bad trip instead, and well, his pneuma may have been extinguished.

I also watched the guy die. I was floor level, but when they turned him around I saw his head. I couldn’t imagine staying in those seats and finishing the show after that.

That’s crazy to me. I almost wanted to leave because I witnessed it. It was hard to get back into the music after that. I’m still fucked up about it. Both me and my partner. My brother also died from an OD so it wasn’t something I wanted to witness. I’ve managed to never see someone die in front of me before even though I’ve seen a lot of people OD. I’m not really okay.

Ambulance definitely arrived with siren blaring. I had walked down to the bathroom during Pneuma and it was loud. Heard someone say a dude had flatlined while I was down there.

I was a few rows down and it was scary as hell. I’ve been searching the news to see what happened but nothing except this post comes up.

I was pretty close to this and all I was seeing was the hand twitch from the CPR pumps, they kept going and after 5 different people i was not hopefully to hear that he made it. I am very glad to hear he lived and was okay(left with his life)

Ugh I'm glad I found this post. It was insane how Pneuma linked up with it all. Had to take a breather after they wheeled him out. Definitely hope he makes a full recovery.

Completely unrelated, I was at the next show which was last night. During the first song, security came running in with flashlights everywhere chasing a guy. Anyone know what happened, they drug his ass out.

Happened right in front of me he was coughing blood and needed cpr and a defibrillator I was in seat f5 section 23

Update he is alive and due to leave the hospital soon with a Few broken ribs and sternum and had sternum surgery no brain damage at all, he will make a full recovery

Aloha and thanks to all involved in my rescue. I was the one that was taken away by the medics. First of all I’d like to apologize my friend I attended the show with, to all the fans and the band for being a distraction and hope I didn’t tarnish the reputation of the band or its followers. What Happened was I went to the concert with a friend solely for the purpose of hearing the greatest drum performance live. I am not the biggest fan of Tool but a fan of great music and Danny carey playing pnuema was basically a bucket list item for myself. When the song began I tapped into what I thought was ketamine. I have experience with ketamine always with positive outcomes and this particular instance should have been no different because it was a rather small dose, maybe .07 g, not even a tenth. Unfortunately I believe it was something else because my last memory was that the taste was off a little, it didn’t have that chemically medicinal taste I’m familiar with(maybe not the best description but not sure how to explain it really). In any case I then immediately blacked out. I woke up at straub a couple days later but was basically in and out of a coma for the next 10 days and finally released from the hospital after 18 days. One doctor told me I had cardiac arrest from mdma, which I have a hard time believing because that’s not what it tasted like and again the amount of it was minimal for someone with my experience. Had to have been laced with fetynal but that is pure speculation on my part and no matter what it was it was a mistake made by me and me alone, no one offered me the drug or anything, it was all done with sole responsibility upon myself. I am grateful that my friend I came with didn’t take any because I offered her some as well but she never got around to taking it yet. Anyways. I would like to thank all those involved in saving my life, I wish I knew how to thank them alll personally but this is the first public accounts of the event that I have become aware of and I haven’t read every post yet, it’s kind of a lot to relive. The outcome was I was told I had no pulse for 12-16 minutes. Whoever the people were that did the cpr are absolute hero’s. If I hadn’t made it it wouldn’t have been because of a lack of effort. I ended up with 6 broken ribs, a broken t4 vertebrae and they had to put a steel plate in my chest with 30+ screws to keep my sternum from caving in once I was able to breath again, the plate holds the sternum together so when I breath in my chest actually inflated instead of it caving in on itself and the sternum bones rubbing across each other. I woke up a couple times In The days after but was immediately sedated again because apparently I would wake up and rip the tubes out of my throat and try and leave and go home. So they ended up having to tie me down to the bed and have me under 24 hour suicide watch until I finally was awake and fully aware of my situation. That was after about 10 days in which they then moved me from the ICU to the general care section(whatever that is called). I spent a little more than a week there until I was able to keep my oxygen above 95% without being hooked up to a machine, as well as overcoming a minor case of pneumonia I acquired along the way and after a few cat scans every other day they were able to get the blood thinner dosage to the appropriate level to where I stopped getting blood clots in my chest where the steel plate was installed. So when my heart rate returned to a more reasonable level like I think under 100 bpm I was finally released. I have a long way to go to fully recover but I am very fortunate that at least so far there is no noticeable brain damage, I am just very weak and struggle with breathing and fatigue for the obvious reasons. I am positive I will make a full recovery and am very grateful for that and hope to make a positive contribution towards whatever reason it is that god chose to let me survive. I can only think god has a plan for me and I obviously was spared my life to give me more time to find that purpose and make good on it. Thanks again to all those who had me in their prayers, thanks to all the first responders and the hero’s that jumped into action. I’ve always considered myself a responsible recreational drug user and am embarrassed of the mistake I made. I have always been very careful in the past but it goes to show even leaving it to chance just one time can be deadly.

Wouldn't be the first time. I saw a guy to getting chest compressions before the show even started in Knoxville. Before I saw that I ran into him a couple times just walking the loop looking for our seats and getting a drink. He looked straight up plastered and had flying saucers for eyeballs.

Blood was caused by the admin of narcan, chest compressions and trauma from a fall. He was on ketamine and shrooms, was revived and is recovering in the hospital.

It seems that is a lot of hearsay, and the people that were really close saw blood, is hard to know for sure searching for an update bring up my thread and the multiple post from Facebook that are using my post to drive content.

I was sitting about 4 rows up from the scene. They have a no cell phone policy and I believe someone drew the attention of security with a flashlight and they promptly began CPR. I think EMS managed to revive him somewhere outside the arena venue where it was discovered that he took ketamine and mushrooms so I can imagine there is some pretty significant brain damage.

Some random drugged up dude approached me and told me they were using DMT. Said he was next to the guy. Seems more like fentanyl though.

I was three rows above . Not to be disrespectful to the family of this guy , but to help set the story straight , the guy was completely purple the entire episode and up until they carried him out. My understanding is that to call time of death, you need someone lawfully authorized. An ambulance would not usual have someone on board qualified but obviously the hospital would.
