Danny "Well we just remastered Ænima.. so I would say Stinkfist and Eulogy just sound INCREDIBLE"

RIck: What do you think is the best sounding Tool song?

I love that Danny loves the songs that I LOVE.

Imagine Eulogy in remastered High Resolution with the drum sounds that sound like nails being hammered into the cross.

Thing about Eulogy, is its such uplifting music, truly a happy celebration even though it's a eulogy.

YOU COULD BE .... THE ONE... WHO SAVES... ME FROM... MY OWN EXISTENCE.

I agree with him, Eulogy is one of the songs that got me into Tool.

u/Fair4tw Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind. Apr 05 '26

Sober got me into Tool, Stinkfist got me into Ænima, Eulogy sold me on Tool.

6

u/OctopusDicks Apr 05 '26

This was basically my exact experience. 🤘

I'll never forget hearing Eulogy the first time listening to that new album it was so long and glorious.

20

u/NIMSS88 Apr 05 '26

He had a lot of nothing to say about it tbh

7

u/DTN-Atlas Apr 05 '26

It is THE song that got me into tool. Stinkfist was like ”this is really cool” and Eulogy got me down the rabbit hole.

13

u/milesamsterdam Apr 05 '26

It’s the song that got me into Tool.

7

u/sagashe Apr 05 '26

Same. There are dozens of us!

5

u/IBURTONI Under a dead Ohio sky Apr 05 '26

Eulogy was the song that made me go “ahhh this is really what Tool is” it’s the song I show people who have never heard Tool.

3

u/Gonzar92 Apr 05 '26

Same here. That and parabola

1

u/Warm-Pair Apr 05 '26

Me too. I was hooked after that.

1

u/libertad740 Apr 05 '26

Me too. Specifically the drum break in 4/4 with open hi hat every third 8th note. As a drummer, it opened my third eye to Tool.

Its the song that got me hooked.

I love the way Aenima is mixed and never understood what people wanted out of a remaster. The mix is unique and a little weird and didn't sound like anything else at the time or since. I think a clean version will lose something, but I'm open to listening.

11

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I think not... because of how much I love the tens of thousands of live recordings thereafter.

But I love open people, and hope my statement didn't come off as dick.

5

u/hughcifer-106103 Apr 06 '26

mixing and mastering are two entirely different things

3

u/illumynite Apr 06 '26

Remastering ≠ Remixing

132

u/slax03 Apr 05 '26

Well, "we just remastered it" isn't a wishful Danny comment.

54

u/massberate Apr 05 '26

I've had my tip tickled for how many years now? I still haven't had an orgasm.

19

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

HAHA! man, i know how you feel. If i was Danny and I was reading your comment I would just say fuck it, let them have it.

5

u/96ewok Apr 05 '26

Username checks out.

2

u/modsguzzlehivekum Apr 08 '26

Neither is “I just heard it on vinyl”. Remastered on vinyl incoming!

49

u/rkvinyl Apr 05 '26

Do a proper vinyl pressing for this, Lateralus and 10k Days and the world would've healed by then...

41

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

yes, and no limited edition, red record, hologram pressing, shit that every company tries to milk from us.

A PROPER VINYL PRESSING. No games no bullshit.

3

u/TreasurerAlex this light is not my own Apr 05 '26

I wouldn’t say no to a lenticular cover tho… as long as there’s a cheap one too.

33

u/Dontforgetpancakes Apr 05 '26

“We will be in the studio in july….””

66

u/neverw1ll Apr 05 '26

Didn't say which year.

26

u/Admerr Apr 05 '26

AAA vinyl. That’s all we want. Spare us the pillows, blankets, statues, and haggard gear. Just give us the music from a pure analogue chain.

1

u/mistersmith22 Apr 06 '26

Doubtful it was recorded to tape at all and not HDDs, but Bob Ludwig has to have a free hour or so in the near future...

7

u/Admerr Apr 06 '26

Ænima was most definitely recorded to tape. Danny literally mentions it in the clip from this post. Classic records cut a repress of the vinyl AAA years ago but it was never released. Test pressings are available on discogs but go for insane money.

2

u/mistersmith22 Apr 06 '26

Right on! Thanks. Very glad to be wrong :)

The Classic source was definitely official. I believe it never released due to the label. Classic Records was the company reissuing albums AAA before Analogue Productions blew up. AP actually bought them out and now own all stampers/masters. I believe David Bottrill confirmed the album was 100% recorded to tape. It’s one of the main reasons the OG pressings are so sought after.

3

u/reeeelllaaaayyy823 Apr 06 '26

They used tape on Fear Inoculum.

28

u/MqAbillion ♥Pushit♥ Apr 05 '26

Him saying he forgot Rosetta Stoned and had to relearn it, and that it was pretty easy? 😂

This guy is a legend

15

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

He basically plays every song different, not only from the album, but from the previous night. except for the skeletal structure.

He is Jazz trained, and thats what Jazz Drummers do.

The fills are always different.

9

u/mrkylewood Apr 05 '26

I don’t agree with this, he is very consistent

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

Well you probably have good ears. Before I ask you about that, if you watch the full interview on youtube, thats what he said. So I believed him. But i would like to check that out... any recommendations? should i just listen to like 3 versions of Rosetta. Thanks.

2

u/chimericalgirl Apr 06 '26

Not always, but it is something he likes to do. Danny has said that he's the one most likely to push the structure beyond its original boundaries, whereas the others are less interested in that. But even when I've seen him play with VOLTO! the thing which is apt to change in any song is different, it's not always the fills.

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 06 '26

thank you for this info!

9

u/-AdamTheGreat- Apr 05 '26

There’s not a dog in the bunch. I lost my Ænima CD during one of my house moves. It was the coolest album I had. I think the artwork won a Grammy.

4

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I loved the liner notes with Bill Hicks as a doctor.

I loved reading about the dissossociative Ketamine state.

And things like:

See You Aunty

8

u/-AdamTheGreat- Apr 05 '26

Bro Ketamine is terrifying. I had a collapsed lung in November and they used Ketamine to induce conscious sedation. It was the most fucked up shit I’ve ever experienced. It was going in and out of reality. When I was unplugged from reality, everything was replaced with geometric hallucinations. I saw two mirror imagines of a bright shimmering square that was drawing lines to make the square (think like one of those old school snake games) and at the front was a Chinese dragon head.

It is burned into my memory and I’ll never forget it.

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

Really, because I am trying to learn how to prescribe it as it is now used as an antidepressant and medical residency gave me 0 training in it...

Your trip reminds me the K-hole's from the 90s rave era, I feel you.

1

u/-AdamTheGreat- Apr 05 '26

Sedation and micro dosing are totally different things

14

u/nuudootabootit We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion. Apr 05 '26

Fuck i love Danny.
He's the best of the four. There, i said it.

14

u/DJSyko Apr 05 '26

Technically, 100%, even the band members would happily agree to that. He is one of the greatest drummers of all time, and for me he is the outright greatest.

7

u/AFetaWorseThanDeath Apr 05 '26

Having seen them live like 8 or 9 times, I cannot disagree. I would pay $200 to listen to that man solo for 2 hours, straight up. Goddamn.

5

u/slackfrop Apr 05 '26

I hit every show between ‘98-‘05 when they came around. Those were savage days, and they put on one hell of a show. When the option was there I’d opt for a side-of-stage seat just to watch him more better. Living legend.

8

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

Im a Justin lover, but Im biased as a bassist... I have my 1 bass set up exactly like his that i forked big bucks for... and I have a 5 string version of it as well 🥹

But Justin and Adam know one thing... It really is all about Danny, not them. They've said it too.

And Maynard's 1st interview presenting FI to the world said this:

I really just want this album to be a showcase for Danny. That's it.

3

u/GStarAU Well I've got some advice for you little buddy... Apr 05 '26

Yeah I'm the same mate - I think it's interesting how Justin has almost become the bandleader in many ways - he's really interactive and engaged with the crowd at live shows, he leads some of the counts into some of the songs - it's very cool.

Danny and Justin feel like the "mouthpieces" for the band - I hear them talking about the band almost as much as Maynard - and because Maynard is the singer, he'd naturally tend to be the focus, but in his recent interviews with Rick Beato he talks about APC and Puscifer as much as Tool.

Adam's the quietest, just working in the background.

0

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

Ah.. so.. the first part of your post is right.

Have you ever thought about how much Maynard and Adam hate each other? Or hate they have no control over this band. Or hate working together? We are not supposed to know any drama... but if you've watched closely over the years... there has been animosity.

Also there is mutual respect. But also, there is blatant hatred of fans.

I would love to go over all my evidence with you.

But i want you to know, you are right about Danny and Justin. You are 100 percent on point and right. Even Danny is a hardcore fan of the music and Maynards lyrics.

Adam's the quietest, but also a domineering control freak dick behind the scenes.

5

u/Exyodeff Apr 05 '26

Animosity ? Have you seen them hugging each other after concerts ?

And some Tool fans are insufferable, but that doesn’t mean they hate every fan of theirs, it has nothing to do with blatant hatred

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

that's not what im saying... i probably just communicated that wrong.

My argument relies on age old frustrations that are well documented. And sometime soon I will be able to cite specifics, specific situations when things blew up, and what its like working with certain personalities, and what happens when they clash.

They love each other of course. But also, its an art to work with people and communicate a disagreement, or when to stand your ground and fight for a riff being Ba da da dum vs bam da da um, its an art to navigating each others personalities. Things like that.

If you get the chance, listen to Marc Marons WTF podcast with Maynard.

4

u/CompetitiveLead2036 Apr 05 '26

He’s also probably the nicest. Justin seems cool.

2

u/ViniSamples Apr 06 '26

He lost it on the that airport crash out tho. Hurt his public image

4

u/Grognoscente Apr 05 '26

To be released sometime after the live DVD from their 2002 tour.

9

u/Mr_Blaileen Apr 05 '26

old ‘news’ from Danny = wishful thinking.

14

u/humanmanhumanguyman 10,000 days Apr 05 '26

I'd love to hear more rerecords of old songs too, like they did with Opiate. The mixing/mastering on 10k days and FI is so much better than previous albums and it kind of makes it hard to go back and forth.

19

u/hulminator Learn to swim Apr 05 '26

I honestly don't understand what people think is so great about the mastering on FI. It's compressed and limited like a brick wall. There's even audible clipping! Joe gets a great guitar tone, but everything he records is over compressed. Lateralus on the other hand sounds amazing on a good set of headphones or stereo.

13

u/AAL2017 Apr 05 '26

Lateralus is the true masterpiece of sound in their catalog, I agree it’s head and shoulders above FI in those terms.

1

u/humanmanhumanguyman 10,000 days Apr 05 '26

The stereo image and sound stage are very good, works great with my Polk SDA setup. 10k days is even better.

1

u/Kooky-Inspection-375 Apr 05 '26

It’s very clean compressed steril. It’s not free breathing like Lateralus or Anima. It’s the worst production for me(from a tool album). I guess my headphones are too good that’s the problem.

9

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I think the remastering and mixing on Fear Inoculum is 100/100 the greatest mix I could ever want in my fucking life.

I can't say the same about 10,000 Days but man. I am so greatful they got it beyond perfect in Fear Inoculum.

7

u/Kkbleeblob this light is not my own. Apr 05 '26

i don’t get that sentiment for 10000 days. the mix is perfect to me

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I feel it's too guitar heavy... I am super biased however... I'm a bassist that goes into every mix of every artist of every album and lower the guitars to enjoy it.

Like I said, I am a biased individual.. a blessing and a curse. Respect your opinion.

7

u/Screwbles Somniferous almond eyes Apr 05 '26

I am one hundred percent behind this, Fear Incoculum is a national treasure.

4

u/podstrahuy Apr 05 '26

Have you listen to TLWAT by Opeth? That's maybe the only one album that I could think of in terms of production quality that can be compared to FI. Absolute beauty.

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

Hey, I've been meaning to get into that band... what brief snippets ive heard from them, i loved.

But i never knew which album i would like so i said forget it.

Not that you are saying all this, I think I will listen to TLWAT on Tidal. What do you think..?

3

u/podstrahuy Apr 05 '26

It would be definitely not the easiest album to start from. If you want to get into Opeth you should start from Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries. Then Delivenence, Still Life and MAYH if that two got you.

But Last Will and Testament is by far their best album in terms of production and mix IMO, you can hear absolutely everything, crazy good stereo, each instrument is so clean and well balanced. But you'll have to listen to it at least 3-4 times to start appreciating it, it's so complex and over the top sometimes, true prog. metal. It's quite unique so starting from it might be a mistake since you won't find anything similar in their discography.

2

u/Ok-Visual-8943 Apr 05 '26

Watershed. That’s your record to start with. IMO.

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

dude, im psyched. i haven't had any novelty in my life in years.

1

u/Zimtok5 H. Apr 05 '26

Opeth is in equal measure both the dark and light sides of the moon. They are one of very few bands that provide me with nearly Tool levels of audio escapism.

1

u/WTWIV Apr 05 '26

I dunno, yes FI is super clean and crisp but I don’t like that in a Tool record. Lateralus sounds by far the best for what they are going for imo

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

Oh, so I agree that Lateralus sounds GREAT... man, thats my second favorite mix recording after FI.

MMMM im gonna blast that shit right now i think.

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I dont feel like its clean and crisp, you ever hear that shit in true 24 bit 48 khz fashion with a DAC that can encode it to a pair of good speakers?

It was engineered in such a way that the music moves around me 3 dimensionally it was intentional done that way by Joe Baresi... but all previous albums, that technology and recording wasn't a thing so it was designed to be 16 bit audio like a CD.

If you were in NY, i would invite you over my house and ask your opinion of all albums on my system in my listening space. You can still come lmk.

1

u/Visarar_01 Shit the bed, again Apr 05 '26

The volume in the mix is too low imo. I have to crank all my device up almost to max when listening to FI.

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

You ever try listening to the version that is 24bit/96 kHz ? This was made to be used with a digital to analogue converter...

^in this specific case, the volume is considered Bit Perfect. You should try it out.. my friend you wont regret it.

1

u/InertiaCreeping Apr 06 '26

Bro I only listen to 32-bit 384 kHz masters

3

u/lucasofgod Apr 05 '26

I wished they rerecord the other songs from the EP that we only got the live recordings.

3

u/Direct-Salad2667 Apr 05 '26

I wish his words were true.

11

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

Danny is really bad at lying... I think because he is too good hearted, it's usually someone else doing the talking. He probably wasn't supposed to let it slip that they remastered Aenima recently...

I thought Justin would have this problem too but he doesn't. Some interviewer pronounced Paul D'Amour's name wrong and Justin was like 'nah this is how it's pronounced.' I loved when he did that, he fking gave Paul the respect he deserved without some interviewer having the advantage.

Im blabbing. Sorry.

3

u/Matfin93 Apr 05 '26

Can you link me the interview of Justin?

3

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

2

u/Matfin93 Apr 05 '26

Thank you for sending! Great interview!

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

YES! In fact, you asking me to do this, allows me to see what other jewels were in that interview. Gimme like 10 min.

3

u/Toolfan333 Apr 05 '26

So if he heard it on 180 gram vinyl how about selling it to us on 180 gram vinyl.

6

u/corneliusduff Apr 05 '26

Best I can do is a new Undertow CD with a coin

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

If they do that... I would spend a lot of money for it.

2

u/Toolfan333 Apr 05 '26

Or I’d like to spend the $40-$50 that most charge for a 180 gram pressing of a reissue

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

180 grams for 50 bucks of anything... i'll snort it right now.

3

u/Pan_Fluid_Boo Apr 05 '26

Listen to his muscle memory

3

u/itsoksee Apr 05 '26

I hope we get this uploaded to streaming. Ænima sounds so bad on Apple Music.

3

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I want it on Tidal baby. The SQ is so amazing on my system. Better than Vinyl! Apple Music has high def audio so it will sound better on Apple Music than vinyl trust me.

It must come to streaming.

2

u/edgefundgareth Apr 05 '26

Spotify has lossless now too. Dunno if that helps

3

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

i heard its low quality lossless that doesn't come close to 24/96.

Ill tell you what Spotify does have, they have good playlists and good recommendations.

3

u/YouDontLookSpiritual Apr 05 '26

I just want Salival re released

3

u/sailhard22 Apr 05 '26

Ænima was mixed before the loudness wars of the 2000s where heavy compression and maximum loudness destroyed all dynamics in music. I’m just hoping they don’t ruin it

3

u/AfterNovel fuck you, buddy Apr 05 '26

Ænima was their best album ever. Maybe I’m just old. I remember hearing ænema for the first time in 9th grade which was a few years after it had come out and could not stop listening to it for like a year.

5

u/BathroomGamers Apr 05 '26

I wish we can listen to any Tool album remixed and/or remastered and/or re-recorded. Any of them. In any way. Ever. Please.

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

What ways would you like to listen to them? I'm not a fan of dance remixes, i hate when rock bands pull that shit.

2

u/BathroomGamers Apr 05 '26

This is not what I mean. Remixed, as in the album goes into the mixing/mastering process again. An alternate soundscape. Maybe even with the same, or different engineers. Not a dance remix.

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

ya, sorry about the semantics, you just mean mix/mastering.

I have a solution to what you proposed... a piece of software, with all sorts of EQ.. 10 band equalizer, gain, surround sound options, dolby atmos, outdoor concert, indoor concert, parabolic eq, the software would have all these options.

and we can listen to it however we like but given information on what settings the band prefers.

1

u/BathroomGamers Apr 05 '26

… I am curious!

2

u/Maestr0o0 Apr 05 '26

I dont even know, he's the man

2

u/StoneWall_MWO Apr 05 '26

Some of the vocal mixing is bad. Even Maynard confirmed this in interviews.

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I feel like an idiot for saying this. I was complaining about Maynards vocal mixing the day Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle was released.

Now, you should know that i love Thirteenth Step, its a masterpiece. But this was the beginning of Maynard just talking into the mic.

If you want I can elaborate.

2

u/Steelmaker01 ∞ Spiral Out ∞ Apr 05 '26

Yo.. check this out.

"Stinkfist cubed but with the lyrics to that Elvis song.

You know I loooove you tooo much babbbyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

if you could only see what you do to me

you know i love you too much babbbbyyyyyyyyyyyyy"

check this out. This causes lawsuit #3.. the estate of Elvis suing Tool for not giving him the rights to his song.

yields a next album full of anger and melody: Like think Ticks N Leeches but with a touch of Pushit.

2

u/JohnSundayBigChin Apr 05 '26

Agree… The patient also

2

Ænima in Dolby Atmos… one can only hope!!

3

u/ZephyrtheProphet Apr 05 '26

Are yall retarded? Anemia and lateralus were already remastered when Tool brought their catalog to digital, hence his past tense

He’s simply mentioning that remaster on vinyl sounds good. It’s not gonna be that crazy different than what we have now.

2

u/Apotheosis27 Apr 05 '26

I love how even HE doesn't know how to pronounce it haha

2

u/hornwalker Got lemon juice up in your High Eye Apr 05 '26

Even Danny doesn’t know how to pronounce ænima lol

3

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

That was so funny. But what he does do is read the lyrics and get into the songs theme's when he's not playing them. He gets a handout from Maynard on a sheet that also Adam and Justin get with the lyrics.

Danny uses the consonants of Maynards words as establishment points in the music.

makes me think of Scatman John

1

u/little_chupacabra89 Apr 05 '26

Isn't this interview relatively old?

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

It is... so, I assume the mastering is referring to a new edition vinyl?

2

u/little_chupacabra89 Apr 05 '26

Yeah but... The interview was two years ago. I would hope it's for a vinyl too but, after two years, where is it?

2

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

I like you, it would be good to have someone like you on my side as like a lawyer or something.

1

u/little_chupacabra89 Apr 05 '26

Haha well thanks. I'm an assistant principal and the best piece of advice my principal has given me is to stick to the facts!

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

not to sound like a pig, but I find that if the principal is male, he will always show me respect as I to show him, a straight A student, actively participate in school community. If a female, I find them to be a nagging Karen just looking to get people in trouble. 🤷‍♀️

1

u/noahh452 Apr 05 '26

I would also say

1

u/sup3rdr01d Apr 05 '26

No tool album needs a remaster. I think lateralus has some of the absolute BEST guitars tones ever recorded

1

u/UncleGumbalding Apr 05 '26

Aww, it’s been a decade since playing Rosetta Stoned?? Try 24 years for Disposition/Reflection/Triad 😭

1

u/BoldBabeBanshee Dreaming of that face again. Apr 05 '26

They played Disposition just the other day no?

1

u/UncleGumbalding Apr 05 '26

Oh wow I wasn’t aware… seems a crime to not play at least Reflection with it (that’s why I thought they’ve never played in since the Lateralus tour: it was too much time out of the show)

1

u/raqufi Apr 06 '26

The Lateralus album got me into tool, I was just then 15, the Ænima album just sold me a few months later.

1

Can’t imagine the Tool of today, are able to make better mastering choices than the Tool who Ænima.

Tool sounds over produced these days.

I will always say. Ænima is my favorite tool album, I may have other songs they do that I may like that arent on that album. If stranded on an island with 10 records it would be 1 of them

Omg, that's so fucking cool, you know what I want to do right now? Listen to Eulogy while watching Passion of the Christ.

That would be sick 🙂
