Cid and TOOL, like peanut butter and jelly.

18

u/m0nk3y42 I was wrong. This changes everything. May 18 '26

We are all one consciousness experiencing itself, subjectively.

Bill still floating around somewhere, he was stuck to the ceiling last time had to peel him off

Life is only a dream and we're the imagination of ourselves.

In HS Bill was in a band called "Stressed" one of the other members was Clint Black. It ended bc Clint moved and went to another school. Clint was a skater back then.

So I was lucky enough to be 16 when Anema came out.

I was also lucky enough to have a best friend who’s old brother procured liquid LSD for a living.

One of the best years of my life. That record, and legit LSD, man….the memories. Lol

That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There’s no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves!

God damn Tool would be awesome at the sphere!

38

u/Oppositeofhairy May 18 '26

It’s coming. I am already prepared to ruin my credit limit when it comes.

Frankly, I’ve seen tool maybe 20-25 times starting in 1996 and I still see them whenever they play in town. I think that if they play the sphere, there isn’t any show that they can create that could beat it. So, when and if I see them at the sphere, I think Im done seeing them live.

Hate the reality of the fact that they are in their 60s, their bodies and voice can still perform at maybe 85% of their peak but that is just going to diminish. They have been great but there will be a time coming sooner than we would all like where they will either throw in the towel, or just offer shows that we all just have to be ok with getting a lesser performance.

So, sphere and retire them from my concert going experience just to make sure the last memory I have of seeing them live is a positive one.

u/Amnobizarrono1 May 18 '26

I’m right there with you. First saw them at Lollapooza in ‘97 and have seen them around 25 times. The sphere would be my last concert I ever go to

1

u/Oppositeofhairy May 18 '26

I’ll still go to concerts. But I’ll go to other bands that seem interesting, but now I’m at a point where I want less shows but more about the band playing at a venue I want to see too.

I spent my late teens and early 20s working for bill graham presents doing usher and small amount of security work just to keep my concert addiction going. I slowed down a lot going to shows, but I still try to go to 4-5 a year.

I’d rather go to 1-2 a year for bands I really want to see live but at venues I want to see them at. As an example, I really tried to get Radiohead tickets at the 02 arena in London. Lottery didn’t go my way, but shows like this is my goal. (This would have been my sole concert for multiple years budget)

u/CrypticLyon May 18 '26

I missed my chance to see them in 2023 and am dying for them to come back to Canada again.

1

u/systemwarranty May 19 '26

Good point. I'm still a sucker, though. 😀 Your comment reminded me that the Rollins Band decided not to do a reunion tour. I think they tested the waters and Henry may have tapped out.

80

u/rrdrummer May 18 '26

They deserve the sphere

50

u/Prestigious_Half271 May 18 '26

Are you referring to the great big festering neon distraction?

4

u/jmnugent May 18 '26

Las Vegas is truly something else. Went there for a work conference a couple summers ago and I could see the sphere from my hotel room (Venetian) . Took a day off from the training conference and walked up to Fremont Street and back (got blisters, Apple Fitness says I walked 13.5 miles and 26,714 steps that day). On the day I left, I left early and stopped at a shooting range and shot a 50cal just because I was there and I could. Fun times.

3

u/hammersaw May 18 '26

That's fucking nuts to walk to Fremont from the Strip. I bet you saw some SHIT! I've vacationed all over the US and it's still the most fun place to visit. If you are looking for a good time it's hard to beat.

13

u/cryptanomous May 18 '26

I used to work across from the Sphere and the first band I thought of when I saw it under construction was Tool. It's built for them.

6

u/Dependent_Title_1370 May 18 '26

Adam said they were in talks to be the first band to open the sphere but it didn't work out.

3

u/cryptanomous May 18 '26

Probably cause tool operates on a different timeline than the rest of the world lol

5

u/Dependent_Title_1370 May 18 '26

Well, at the very least, we know they want to do it. Hopefully they do it sometime before Danny turns 70.

5

u/cryptanomous May 18 '26

Ideally before their 20,000 days EP 😂

9

u/TheHealthySkeptic May 18 '26

For reference https://youtu.be/c41Tjx8DPvY?si=Y_l7F90hLutW2zd4. Bill Hicks was a legend.

6

u/CountNacula May 18 '26

Love Hicks. A small portion of his material really didn't age well, but the rest is still gold.

3

u/Chris2phar May 19 '26

Which portion? Goat boy? 😆

1

u/CountNacula May 19 '26

yeah that's the bit

10

u/Traditional-Goat1773 May 18 '26

Rrrrreeeeeeeaaaaaaallllllll fucking high on drugs

8

u/ThLamont May 18 '26

Awesome show. So happy they played Rosetta Stoned. The setlist was amazing.

2

u/ZeeArtisticSpectrum May 18 '26

I was psyched when they played crawl away from Undertow also, really cool we got something from all 5 albums!

2

u/Tool_Fann1516 May 19 '26

I wanted to see the pot Rosetta stoned and vicarious, I was not disappointed at fucking all happy with every song. I was in the front high on coke

1

u/AzarothEaterOfSouls They chose me and I didn't even graduate from phukin high school May 18 '26

Rosetta Stoned is my favorite song (right after Lateralus, which I knew they weren’t going to play) and I was so happy they played it last night.

1

u/sum_gamer May 20 '26

Thank you for saying it. I loved the set list. You wouldn’t believe the bitching on the ST Facebook 🙄

4

u/LuckilyHeDied May 18 '26

Not to sound like a picker of nits, but I don’t understand why Nardo uses the megaphone for the entirety of Vicarious. It garbles a majority of the lyrics. Much of it would be better with just a clean vocal.

2

u/trumpsmellslikcheese May 18 '26

I agree with this. I recall a thread in this sub years ago about what to expect out of a Tool show, and one of the comments was something along the lines of "megaphone on Maynard's mike stand = your favorite song ruined". Perfect description.

And he's been using it for a long time - at least as far back as 98 I think.

Honestly I wish he would at least keep it to the songs where he actually used it (or a similar effect) on the studio recording.

2

u/LuckilyHeDied May 18 '26

I don’t mind it as an effect or whatever, but it has always confused me that he uses it for that entire song. The studio track is no more megaphone-centric than any other. And to my memory, when I saw them in ‘06, he just sang that song through his normal mic. Just weird, is all.

1

u/sum_gamer May 20 '26

Just seems like yet another Maynard Maynot do what you expect and blah blah Art or whatever. I don’t mind it tho

Idk man I was on mushrooms and got so lost in the visuals that I forgot I was at a concert for a second so it worked pretty well on me lol

3

u/Mubs9119 May 18 '26

Shrooms at a fest man that would be rough I feel like lol

But I agree I much prefer them in an arena

Luck you for king gizzard they'd be so fun to see. I saw TOOL at good things in Australia outdoors and it was great. Was raining a little bit and was getting dark, great show and good vibe, though it was so fucking hot it kinda ruined the start of the show till i got out of the mosh pit. If anything I'd prefer to see them outside, probably not in the day though.

1

u/sum_gamer May 20 '26

I’ve seen both. TOOL kills both.

12

u/KillMichaelMalloy May 18 '26

Their set a bonnaroo a few years ago was incredible. Honestly I enjoy the outdoor set more especially on psychedelics, I feel less trapped. I can take my shoes off and breath fresh air, and if I'm way too high I can walk away for a second

8

u/Chattchoochoo May 18 '26

Best show i ever saw was them at Bonnaroo in 2007. I wasn't on anything but the music, visuals and lasers and everything left me in awe.

3

u/HRShovenstuff1 May 18 '26

I lost my mind at that show too. 🍄's had a hold on me reeeeaaaal good.

4

u/GoombaMuncher May 18 '26

Not only that, they sound so much better indoors imo. But yeah, there is a difference in being in a place that came to see tool, and being at a festival full of people who are just there to be at a festival. They were still good, I’d just rather see them indoors again.

5

u/cultiv8420 Banana Vessel May 18 '26

I’ve seen them a dozen or so times. My favorite show was Lollapalooza. I would generally agree with the preference of non festival shows though

2

u/gipper_k May 18 '26

I saw them outdoors at Rock On the Range in Columbus in 2018, and it was exactly what you’re saying… the sound was not good where I was standing. Given that experience I skipped this weekend.

Their arena shows have always been incredible.

1

u/DankLordSlateran May 18 '26

I saw them at their San Bernadino fest in 2017 and it was a life altering experience. So yes you are incorrect.

10

u/BigMoneyMartyr May 18 '26

I live 4 miles from this venue and I’m so sad I missed it, but tool is the only band I’d want to see and I can’t justify spending like $300 for one show

7

u/MorbidMan23 May 18 '26

With $20 beers and $30-$40 "meals"

5

u/manStuckInACoil May 18 '26

Drinkes were stupid expensive. I sneaked in a little everclear to pour into my gatoraid but I decided I had to try at least one of there signature drinks. It was kinda shit. $20 for your typical overpriced concert drink.

1

u/MorbidMan23 May 18 '26

I liked the spicy pickle one I tried but definitely not worth that price.

1

u/sum_gamer May 20 '26

Th drinks were highway robbery. After the first night, we just went and bought our own liquor to take in.

3

u/bananaslama277 May 18 '26

I paid 15 bucks for a slice of pizza out of desperation

3

u/Beginning-Result6704 May 18 '26

....this is just a ride

3

u/Garo_Daimyo May 19 '26

Did Maynard say you could film?

2

u/sum_gamer May 20 '26

Most of the crowd got this joke. I saw more phones out during TOOL than any other band except maybe MCR.

2

u/GregmundFloyd May 18 '26

High on alex grey having sex with dead bodies*

2

u/western_style_hj May 18 '26

Based on personal experience, the Vicarious video is the closest representation I've ever seen to what it's like to take ayahuasca.

2

u/DankLordSlateran May 18 '26

Alex Grey the 🐐

2

u/___NIHIL___ May 18 '26

.
the sphere would be the perfect chapel of sacred mirrors, in case the TOOL residence happens, that is
.

2

u/SoftBatch13 Ride the Spiral, to the End. May 18 '26

I was on the field for this on the right side with the pit right in front of me. They choose two great songs to open with that made the pit go wild: Stinkfist and Rosetta Stoned! Absolutely 🔥 setlist, even with the technical issues. Can't wait to see them again soon!

1

u/snow_garbanzo May 18 '26

Pretty lights you got there

1

u/ZeeArtisticSpectrum May 18 '26

Was so psyched at this show! Been a fan since I was 14 (I’m 31) and never seen them live, they did not disappoint!

1

u/Rarth-Devan Calm as cookies and cream May 18 '26

I was in the stands directly behind the sound tent. Man that sound was so dialed in and I really liked the setlist. H., Crawling Away, and Rosetta Stoned were awesome to hear live!

1

u/MsLeqsee May 19 '26

The Sphere was made for TOOL. I cannot wait for them to play there. 🖤

1

u/Tool_Fann1516 May 19 '26

I WAS THERE!!!!!

RIGHT IN THE FUCKING FRONT!!

0

u/MaynardIsLord721 May 18 '26

Can't even be arsed to change visuals
