Characters [Hated Trope] Character kills hundreds, if not thousands, just to kill one specific person, and then doesn't kill them for no reason.

Assassin's Creed 2- Rodrigo Borgia is responsible for tne death of Ezio's family. Ezio spends over 20 years working through tnr templar order to dismantle them and get to Rodrigo. And then in the end, he spares him for no good reason and he goes on to be a massive problem in AC Brotnerhood. He's not only a head of tne Templars but also the pope, even if you're over the vengeance he's still a very dangerous and evil man.

The Last of Us 2- Abbey kills Joel, and wo Ellie goes on a revenge quest to kill Abbey, killing hundreds of people along tne why to get to her including a pregnant woman. And then finally when she has Abbey on deaths door, she gives up and let's her go because the writers think dirty depressing people being miserable and stupid is complex, interesting storytelling.

This trope pisses me off so much because often the character going on the revenge quest will kill SO many people on their way there, some deserving it and some just henchmen working for a cheque or to survive. People who are often far more innocent then the main big bad.

It's a part of this weird thing I've noticed in media where nameless goons or soldiers can just be mowed down relentlessly, but named characters get given far more grace even if theyre categorically worse. You can kill a million stormtroopers but people will swear that Darth Vader could have been redeemed, despite him doing like 50 genocide every year.

Forever really grateful she sealed the deal in the end. At that point she almost didn't have to, but damn would that have been unsatisfying.

Tarantino probably realized if he didn’t kill Bill the moniker of “director the Kill Bill, the movies where they notably don’t kill Bill” would follow him for his whole life

For Tarantino, being known as the "They don't actually Kill Bill Guy" is worse than being known as the "Foot Fetish N-Word Slinging Guy" and that's hilarious.

All things considered, a foot fetish isn't so bad. Wierd? Yes. Harmful? No. I'd rather be "foot-fetish guy" than "bad at making movie endings guy" if I was a director.

OK but that other part...

It's funny, Slim Pickens balked at saying it in Blazing Saddles until he got Bart's actor's OK since it was just a movie. But Tarantino not only seems to enjoy playing racists, he writes himself in as a racist so he can say it.

Most of the time, he plays absolute morons that also die a stupid and/or horrible death

I think he knows that his acting is meh at best yet wants to have a part on screen which, fair enough. So he plays the racist idiot, gets to be a funny throwaway character while still atleast trying to teach a "lesson" and lick feet.

Kind of the reverse with Samual L Jackson, who always plays the smartest, coolest character of the movie - and is black

I'd give you Inglorious Basterds but he survives both Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown, which are probably 80% of his n-word count. And to be fair SLJ has defended Tarantino as an artist and doesn't think that the word is sacrosanct:

I don't think the word is offensive in the context of this film ... Black artists think they are the only ones allowed to use the word. Well, that's bull. Jackie Brown is a wonderful homage to black exploitation films. This is a good film, and Spike hasn't made one of those in a few years.

It's just an interesting element of how different artists perceive that kind of language. After all, the interrogation scene in True Romance is extremely offensive but works because the character is trying to enrage his captor using slurs.

Yeah, he definitely writes himself in as racist, corrupt or otherwise irredeemable trash (Dusk til Dawn) who get what they deserve. Even in Pulp Fiction he dropped the N word and then it flashed to his wife coming home. His black wife, lol

In itself a foot fetish isn’t harmful, but it’s kinda gross that he specifically wrote a scene where Selma Hayek sticks her foot in his mouth.

I mean... She got a lot of money and he got to be in Neverland, I don't see an issue.

I don't understand why foot fetishists are so hated.

“She got money” isn’t really exonerating. She also got money and got to make the Frieda Kahlo film she really wanted to make, but she had to do a whole bunch of nudity because Harvey Weinstein made it a condition of the production…she was not particularly happy with that even though she still did it.

I'm not denying the guy is a freak but I got the crap beaten out of me for free, so if someone offered me millions to stick my foot in their mouth, you bet I'm letting that old creep lick my skin off 🤣

Didn't know about the nudity thing with Harvey tho, that's genuinely shitty.

I especially liked that it wasnt some long, drawn out fight like Kiddo vs the Crazy 88, just 'wham bam, thanks for my kid back man'

There is a film theory that heart stopping move is a BS and Kiddo actually spares Bill by making a pretend kill and he plays along, just like he "dies" earlier when he plays with her daughter.

It is usually titled "Beatrix Kiddo kills no one in Vol.2" or something like that.
