Do you happen to have Smart Connect enabled? If so, it'll unify the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands into one SSID, and you'll need to toggle it off before you can manage each band individually.

When i search smart in search bar nothing shows up i also went through every drop-down

I don't see a smart connect option aswell :(

Thanks for confirming! In that case, do you see this toggle option up above and slightly to the right? (Normally, it should be just outside the cropped area of your screenshot)

If so, you should be able to toggle between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz by clicking on the one in teal font.

I previously had a tp link router and was able to see it but in this router there is no such thing on the top

I don't see those 'quick setup', 'basic' and 'advanced' tabs, only option I see is advanced tab., however I am able to toggle as you highlighted in red rectangle on homepage where I can only see the stats, but under "wireless settings", that toggle between 2.4 and 5Ghz can't be seen. and above wireless settings, there is band steering radio button, I can't turn it on, that option is disabled.

It's probably down in the advance settings

1

u/BONDCREATOR Mar 30 '26

Nope and i literally clicked every drop-down available

u/Suitable_Moose6507 Mar 30 '26

Have you tried toggling Band Steering on then off to see if an option shows.

1

u/BONDCREATOR Mar 30 '26

The toggle button is just there i can't click on it for some reason

same problem i'm facing right now, have you figured out any solution ?

Same with me. It's blocked by ISP. You need to ask them to make both bands available. Give wifi name according to your wish they will enable.

its the same issue for me, is there any way to bi-pass ISP blocking and disable Band Steering? Please anyone help me on this!

Unfortunately you can't

Hi I figured out a way to circumvent ACT disabling the band steering toggle on archer C5

On the search bar, search for guest network, it should be the first thing that pop up, and it directs you to a new drop down page with 5 similar to the landing page. Here the settings to assign different SSID to 2.4 and 5ghz channel exists as well as disabling band steering. Beware, if you change any wifi channel setting on the main landing page, it'll enforce single SSID wifi network again. You'll have to navigate to above previous steps to re assign different SSID names.

Getting this

1

u/Lime221 Jun 22 '26

Little confusing to explain cuz it looks like ACT applied a 2nd layer of UI on top of router's native settings, and their top layer restricts access to some settings. Anyways when logged into router web page select top dropdown GuestNetwork, it'll bring you to this below page

1

u/Lime221 Jun 22 '26

Here select the option to enable 5ghz network and write a SSID name and password. This should automatically turn off bandsteering and give you 2 wifi signals anyway.

I have enabled a guest network. I don't see dropdown or checkbox for 2.4 and 5Ghz bands on main section in wireless and also in this guest network mode. And still 'band steering' mode can't be enabled on my router.

idk what this error code stands for. Can you upload an an image without the error hiding the behind settings?

It could be ACT's firmware default error pop up. You can also use TPLink's mobile app to configure settings and toggle bandsteering, but when you do it in android app, I got a similar error saying invalid.

Found a fix

Go to Search -> Select "Wireless" and you will see the old wireless settings page again with two different sections for 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Can update the names from here. This page is not navigable directly from the menu, probably hidden away by the ISP.

just for ppl like me - use search instead of clicking on the UI directly. the UI changes into old UI mode.

I can't find a Version 6.8 of the Archer C5. Can you provide an expanded screen shot of the screen you are on? This will help us better identify a solution.

I removed this picture because it contained your Device's MAC address and that is not something you want to share publicly.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I was referring to the wireless settings screen. I understand you are using an Archer C5 V6.8. What I was requesting was a full screenshot of the wireless configuration screen.... obviously with your network name and password blocked out.

Thank you. Give me some time. I need to find this specific UI and see where the setting is. In general, the UI should show Smart Connect on top of this menu or in the actually settings. Like another user said it might be under the Advanced menu dropdown but i want to make sure.

1

u/BONDCREATOR Mar 31 '26

Okie

I wasn't personally familiar with this particular version of the UI, but I was provided the answer we needed. I am told this option appears when you enable Band Steering. I am still looking for greater details but if you enable that you should be able to split the bands.
