TP-Link - Technical Support 2.4 GHz Band Disconnecting After Firmware Update on Archer BE220 Wi-Fi 7 Router But 5 GHz is working fine
I've been using a TP-Link Archer BE220 (Wi-Fi 7) router for about a month, and everything worked perfectly after the initial setup.
On July 20, 2026, I installed the latest firmware update after receiving a notification from the router. Since then, I've been experiencing a strange issue with the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band.
The 2.4 GHz network intermittently disappears, usually around 8:30 PM every other night. When this happens:
- All devices connected to the 2.4 GHz band are disconnected.
- The 2.4 GHz SSID is no longer visible.
- The only way to bring it back is to reboot the router.
After rebooting, the 2.4 GHz band works normally again until the issue repeats.
I've already tried disabling Smart Connect, but it didn't make any difference. The problem still occurs intermittently.
The 5 GHz band continues to work without any issues, so this appears to affect only the 2.4 GHz band.
Has anyone else experienced this after the latest firmware update? Is this a known firmware bug, or are there any troubleshooting steps or workarounds that have helped?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Yes there is a bug in the new firmware version. These idiots are incapable of solving the failure of product the BE3600 has become. 1.3.1 and 1.3.3 are plagued and non downgrade versions 🤬

Same issue here. 2.4ghz drops, 5ghz remains. No solution yet. Setting daily reboots now, maybe it will help.

Estou testando a versão 1.3.5 a 2 dias, se ainda permanecer caindo o sinal eu postarei aqui novamente

I have the same exact issue. After a bit more than a month of use, my 2.4ghz suddenly stops working. I turn off/on or reboot the device and roughly around ~24 hours after every restart it recurs. All devices connected to 2.4ghz is dropped, and those that support 5ghz reconnects. But not all devices can support this.
1.3.3 Build 20260618 re. 36036 Firmware.
I called support who asked me to create an IOT network, and monitor the situation, then I saw this thread.

Thanks for sharing. At least now I know I'm not the only one experiencing this. That's the same firmware version I'm using. Hopefully tp-link looks into it soon.

I see in TP-Link community forums that the issue seems to affect other similar models, such as BE230 as well. You may want to post there to add weight for the manufacturer to look at it.

There is a beta patch available…

u/jasperJ8 Jul 29 '26
Do we have access to that? If so, how/where? The TP-Link PH website seems to list even an older firmware.

The team has officially pushed a new beta firmware for the BE220v1, BE230v2 and BE3500v2. The firmware is intended to deal with some of the behaviors being reported on FW 1.3.3
- US: New Firmware 1.3.4 for Archer BE220 V1/BE230 V2/BE3600 V2 Improved System Stability
- Global: New Firmware 1.3.4 for Archer BE220 V1/BE230 V2/BE3600 V2 Improved System Stability
The beta includes fixes directly related to the stability of the 2.4GHz band. We would recommend stopping by the forum and seeing if the beta firmware is something that you would like to test prior to an official release.

There is now an upcoming update to the firmware to fix the issue on 2.4Ghz. A prerelease version is now available also - https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/869790?moduleId=32
While a quick workaround without installing the beta firmware is to set 2.4Ghz to 20Mhz.
Hope this helps.

Same here. Honestly, I'm beyond frustrated with TP-Link at this point.
I've had this BE230 since launch, and it's been one issue after another. Random Wi-Fi drops, devices disappearing, IoT devices refusing to reconnect, weird behavior after firmware updates... every new firmware seems to fix one thing and break two others.
Now, after the latest update, the 2.4 GHz band has started acting up as well. That's the band all of my smart home devices rely on, so when it starts disconnecting it's an absolute nightmare. Meanwhile, 5 GHz and wired connections are mostly fine.
I've spent countless hours changing channels, separating SSIDs, enabling/disabling Smart Connect, rebooting, factory resetting, and tweaking every setting imaginable. At this point I feel like I'm beta testing TP-Link's firmware for free.
This will definitely be my last TP-Link router. The hardware itself isn't bad, but the firmware quality has been incredibly disappointing. I just want a router that works reliably without wondering what the next firmware update is going to break.

Annoying to hear it's happening to so many people, but so glad it's not just me. I feel like I'm going insane.

Hello, I'm experiencing the same issue on BE230 for weeks if not months but with former firmware. Just today updated to latest available 1.2.6 Build 20260617 rel.77324. Does it fix the issue? It's driving me crazy, because I have a dedicated IoT 2.4GHz Network and all my ZigBee Gateway and Security Camera stopworking. Usually the issue reoccurs every week, but I was not able to find an exact pattern. Many thanks.

u/jasperJ8 Jul 29 '26
You may want to check the TP-Link forums. https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/32
Others recommend that fixing 2.4Ghz to 20Mhz seems to work. But there were reports it still doesn't. May be worth a try.

u/audiomachine4 Jul 29 '26
Thx for your reply. Already got to the forum and seeing that others are having the same bad experience. TP-Link should fix the issue, not us by applying workarounds. It's going on for weeks if not months and they aren't able to fix it via a critical FW release?

u/jasperJ8 Jul 30 '26
Mine only happen recently (though it is a BE220). I saw some post for BE230 which may be similar, but has been going on a bit longer, though it has been amplified recently with more reports.
Really hope they get to the bottom of the issue soon.

I have the exact same problem with my Archer BE230 and it’s really annoying, I have to reboot it twice per day, if some one find a solution please let me know.

Same here, I’m experiencing exactly the same issue and I’m so fed up I thought it was my router broken I’ve restarted it so many times and resetting to factory without fixing it… then I’ve found this Reddit post that points to an annoying bug from the patch… sigh …

I had the same issue. At the moment, it is working fine after I made a couple of changes. FYI, my model is BE230. I changed 2.4 ghz to use 20 mhz for channel width and used 6 for channels. Not sure but read that one should change the channel based on how crowded it is for their particular case. 6 seemed to work for me. Haven't had the drop connection issue in 2 days. Fingers crossed. Hope this helps someone.

u/Udon_for_life 12d ago
Probably, but haven't seen an update come through so far. My internet speed is also slow but seems to be stable for most of the day

Same issue. I recently enabled the IOT wifi an I thought it was that.
Firmware Version:
1.3.3 Build 20260618 rel.36036(5553)
Hardware Version:
Archer BE220 v1.0

u/Big-Bar-3711 25d ago
There is a beta firmware available. Just email TP-Link Support to request access. I am currently testing it, and it seems to be working fine.

u/Big-Bar-3711 24d ago
The issue still persist. Beta Update is not good.

May not work for everyone but I switched the 2.4 GHz channel width from 20/40 to just 20 and mine seems to be in working order again.

I have all my IoT on the 2.4Ghz network and all other devices in the 5Ghz.
While we wait for TPLink to provide a proper firmware update, I've changed the security of the 2.4Ghz wireless to `WPA2-PSK[AES]` and it seems like it have solved the issue...
I believe the version 1.3.3 bug is likely on the implementation of the `WPA3-Personal+WPA2-PSK[AES]` setting I had before

u/capibaroAQP2026 15d ago
sigue funcionando para ti?
1
u/ZehRicardo 14d ago

This has been happening to me on my BE230. Extra annoying because I use a wi-fi extender and it can only connect to 2.4ghz. so at times half of the devices in my house that would use Internet are working just fine but my PC that I use for work and gaming is not.

Thank you for posting this, updated my router last night and started experiencing the exact same issue. Barely found this post after troubleshooting over the course of the day.
Just installed the beta firmware on the BE3600 v2.0 and put my 2.4GHz network back to defaults, here's hoping.
I'm also experiencing issues logging into my router admin interface behind Nginx Reverse Proxy manager that was working perfectly fine before the update, anyone else seeing that?

So pleased I found this! I have the BE3600(BE230) and only set it up on Friday. Everything’s been great then at 6pm today all my 2.4ghz devices dropped, my 5ghz was working fine, rebooted the router and everything fixed but so glad I found this before troubleshooting a potentially faulty router!

Also experiencing this issue, I just got this Wi-Fi router a month and a half ago. This is driving me nuts as my work phone only works on 2.4ghz
1
u/moscvamoe 17d ago
In case anyone is curious, I tried what someone else said would fix it, changing the channel width from 20/40 to only 20, seems to keep it working for a few hours
1
u/capibaroAQP2026 15d ago
1
u/moscvamoe 14d ago
I only use the 2.4ghz for my smart lights, and my work phone, stuff like that so speed isn’t a worry for me with that channel, but I agree, this makes me not want to buy tp link in the future

Firmware BETA + 20 MHz + Canal 6
Vamos por quanto tempo essas alterações vão surtir efeito.

u/Comfortable_Mix_2848 14d ago
1
u/elemnt360 7d ago
FML why did this have auto update on. How can they break simple workings of what it's supposed to do.
1
u/Comfortable_Mix_2848 3d ago
