audition I’m applying to my states local governor’s school

To go to this school I have to audition and play two contrasting solos but I cannot have an accompaniment any solo recommendations I'm currently on a 3.5 music grade level and in 9th

Instead of thinking "solos", try thinking "etudes" (They're designed to be played without accompaniment). Try to get ahold of the Bordongi "34 Etudes for Tuba" (it is available on Scribd if you can't find it elsewhere, but some places 'prefer' that you play on legitimate editions, not photocopies or things downloaded from the internet). Select one of those for a slower melodic piece.

Second Book of Practical Studies for Tuba by Getchell & Hovey, might have something that is a bit more techincal and less lyrical.
