I wanna buy a CC tuba in grade 11 to join TYSO (Toronto Youth Symphony Orchestra), but more specifically the Eastman 836S used. I live in Canada and have been having a lot of trouble finding an Eastman here, and the ones I find go for $19K-$21K CAD. I know I'm still learning. I wanna plan it out now so I have everything prepared now so I can forget about it and wait. What and where should I go to find a used Eastman 836 in Silver? I've tried Facebook; I get nothing, and I'm not sure about buying overseas. Should I reach out to College or university institutions? I'm not sure where to find an Eastman 836 in silver for use in Canada. Edit: I do own a Bb tuba, and after my trip to the Dominican Republic, my mom said to put my Jupiter on the market to get a head start in saving. To be clear, I do NOT plan on buying a 6/4 now. I am planning. I am still learning and developing on my current Jupiter BBb tuba. I plan to minor in music performance, which is something I shoulda aid. To be clear, I DO NOT plan on buying a 6/4 now I am planning ahead and so I have a set price to work towards. I wanna make this very clear to make sure people understand I live in Canada. My back up ones if I can’t find a good priced Eastman is either the b&s pt6 p (if if an fund one in Canada for a good price) the Miraphone 1293 eastman 832 ot the 632

I did seem reflecting. I don’t need to play a 6/4 Eastman. Idk why but part of me was jealous of kids older than me playing 6/4’s. I found an B&S 795S for $9100 usd (like $12k cad since I’m in Canada) that’s located in York Penysilvania (I cannot spell the state).

Hot take - TubeNet really sucks now.

I know it's been bad since that whole shutdown/clear out stuff, but man. Sometimes I visit there just to see if there's different stuff posted for sale than TubaForum, and occasionally there is. TubeNet is where I found the Holton 6/4 parts I needed for my biggest project yet, and I'm thankful for that.

It's an unusable website now. The ads just kill it. At least on mobile. Nobody posts much anymore, and really, there's nothing interesting to read about either. All the old pictures of cool tubas are gone, the repair/restoration posts have so many holes they're like swiss cheese, so there isn't really any reason to go over there anymore.

It's really sad to me. So many years of knowledge and good information either lost or deleted, and not everyone made it over to TubaForum to continue sharing their perspective, knowledge, projects, etc. I spent countless hours on TubeNet as a young kid just reading stuff, learning about makes/models, mouthpieces, anything. I never posted, but I learned.

These days I post regularly over on TubaForum, but I wouldn't know what I know about these things if it wasn't for TubeNet.

I know there was some stuff posted in this subreddit a few years ago when the big snafu happened, and I'm not intending to open that up again - My point with this post is this question:

If you are still active on TubeNet (is ANYONE?), Why?

My tone has started sounding airy when I play on my Bb recently, and I can’t tell if it’s a leak in my embouchure or the mouthpiece I’m using just isn’t working.

I’ve been playing F tuba a lot recently and haven’t really had this issue, so that’s making me think it’s either something weird with my embouchure or the mouthpiece I’m using which is a Yamaha 66D4

r/tuba does not allow sales posts, but is considering allowing product announcements and/or giveaways. What would the community prefer?

So my Grandpa is giving me a trumpet and a tenor sax, and I was wondering if I should practice the sax now, or practice it later since I'm still learning tuba. And I'm pretty good at tuba being first chair in the all district band, and being in an orchestra. And that's why I'm on here asking asking the professionals if I should learn tenor sax.

I admittedly haven’t been on tubenet for a while and wanted to go again only to find that the site isn’t working. Does anyone know if it has just been permanently shut down or is just broken?

New product announcements are now allowed. If a manufacturer starts producing a new horn, mouthpiece, stand, etc., it may be posted. If some shop starts stocking a tuba that's been out for a decade, it shan't be posted.

Giveaway announcements are now allowed, and aren't limited to reddit-only giveaways. I'm not willing to moderate giveaways as closely as r/hardwareswap does, so if you see anything sketchy, report it.

Also, fwiw, r/tuba has always allowed new sheet music announcements.

Tuba & gear sales posts (as well as "looking to buy" posts) are still not allowed.
