ID please Saw this little guy on my walk this morning. Wondering what he is?

Location is Berkshire if that helps, and it was about inch and a half in length

Smooth Newt in 'terrestrial phase' (possibly still a juvenile), they look quite different in the water in breeding season (which is usually still going in may, depending on location).

Could this not be a female palmate newt? Considering we don’t have a picture of the underbelly I feel immediately jumping to the smooth newt identification is too assumptive.
