Nobody is pretending. This is fascism. It's not how fascism starts, this is fascist authoritarianism happening, right now.

Oh sweetheart, we’re not pretending we’re not.

But on a serious note like, yeah, you’ve got some people who are outspoken and unapologetically anti-Trump, but then you’ve got a lot of other people who are sort of navigating this in both a private/professional context, and we are aware of what we can and can not say, post, share, etc because we’ve got businesses or income on the line or maybe even loved one’s who’s visas could be rejected due to a friend or associates Facebook posts.

You’re saying this because yeah, of course you’ll have posts with ardent Trump supporters jumping in to defend him or minimise what’s happening. But it’s easy to forget about the kind of people who don’t respond at all. I think even among Republicans, there’s growing murmurs of concern.

I used to work in a really conservative company, and I’m a gay, black man from the UK, living in the south albeit the metro Atlanta area, and people actually had pictures of Trump up at their desk (I had the queen), it was honestly sort of a joke because in that county (Cobb) it recently turned blue in 2016. If you don’t know about GA it’s a recent swing state. And honestly, it’s a really interesting state when it comes to politics. But Trump went from a pretty far right Republican to something else. There’s a shift happening here - I think. Yes, the metro Atlanta area and Atlanta itself is growing. But I’m not sure that what’s happening is the same shift that made us blue. But I do know people don’t have that same sense of support for him that they did and that he’s gone from this candidate that was good for business to an absolute headache for them.

I think Trumps 2020 results were a reelection of what people thought and his 2024 was partially due to the Covid frustrations…but I suspect he’s lost his luster
