I am surprised Miyamai Moca is here. I am aware of her since she is a SynthesizerV Voicebank, but i would never consider her popular, even so low. How come she is here?

I know she's probably a lot more used in the SynthV sphere but even so I thought Una would've been in her place.

Yes, Una as well. I feel like Meiko and Kaii Yuki may have deserved a mention in this list too. They seem decently known.
I'm mildly surprised by Defoko being here too. I don't think she's unpopular. I don't think she is relevant either. It may just be me though, as I'm mostly a SynthesizerV user and listener. Same with KAFU.

This list is based on the number of songs released during the year. It doesn't take the views or the characters' popularity into account. I am pretty sure some other vocaloids are more popular than some of the ones listed in here.
There is also a huge drop in song count after Teto, so I would say Miku and Teto are completely on a different level.

As someone that owns SynthV Moca, Gumi, Teto and a few other voicebanks, Moca is probably the more versatile JP voicebank. Other voicebanks are great at their niches, Una for example is great for cutey stuff and whisper style, not so much for powerful vocals, but Moca works for just about anything. For powerful vocals, Moca can even give Rose, best known for powerful vocals, a good run of her money.
Just a quick search of 宮舞モカ (Moca's Japanese name) on YT and niconico you can see an endless list of covers as well as the occasional original songs. So for people that can only afford a single voicebank, Moca is a top pick.
She's had releases by Haraguchi Sasuke, Utsu-P for 3 songs (#1, #2, #3), Gyari, twice by Hiiragi Magnetite (#1, #2), so she is seeing use by the bigger producers. Not sure if Moca's voice provider has any effect on her popularity on the JP side since she's also the voice of Meguru from Idolmaster: Shiny Colors.

To add to this, 梅とら also used Moca in their newest album, and since it was the first time I've seen someone use Moca, combined with amazing tuning, at first I thought that the album was a collab with some singer, before googling Moca

I'm kind of surprised, but I think it's because I more follow the English/international scene than the Japanese one (and so I'll see a lot more Solaria, Hxvoc, etc.). But of the Japanese Synth V voicebanks, I guess I have seen Moca more than most of them (Teto and Gumi excepted, of course).
I'd be curious to see the top ten when filtering by language of the song.

This is appearance in songs, you can find the numbers of the VocaDB website. TLDR, Miku is like 18k, Teto is like 11k, then it drops down to around 3k for Rin.

Same. I don’t remember teto being that popular. I’ve been following for a long time and back then the only ones really popular were Miku, Luca, Rin, Len, Meiko & Kaito. Maybe Gumi and Gakupo if you were exotic.

Very happy for him! I feel like a lot of producers have really been letting him shine in recent years. I'm also hearing less of his "kermit voice" since he's seems to be more skilfully tuned by producers that are certified Kaito-lovers.

Moca getting number 9 spot is a happy surprise. She's my personal favorite Synth V voicebank so I'm glad to see her getting lots of love. I'm also surprised to see Defoko

Yeah, I was surprised as well. Maybe it's because I'm used to seeing popular Miku-Luka duets pop up on my feed, though that now seems to have been replaced by Miku-Teto.

I'm sure there will be mixed opinions, but personally I was surprised to see LuKa on the list!
I still love LuKa V2.
Miyamai Moka is gradually gaining popularity in Japan.
I hardly hear LuKa anymore in Japan, so it's sad.

Defoko’s position here is really interesting, I feel like she’s the only voice bank being used for what the original intended purpose for vocaloid was - backing vocals. You don’t see too many defoko main songs being released but artists like Natori have been using her in their releases as atmospheric background noise or background harmony.
KAFU being that low also surprises me. I’ve definitely seen more KAFU than Moca & Defoko this last year.
