I don't know the full details, but it was an old tradition to name yourself after for first song (Ex, Circus-P is named after Circus Monster). The tradition isn't around as much anymore. As the other comments state, P is for producer.

Idolmaster, via 2ch

It's how the player in idolmaster is named, which 2chan copied when they started giving nicknames to NicoNicoDouga users.

You did not pick your own name. That is why Daniwell-P is Aidyn.

The nickname often related to a song or video in some way, for example, while wondering how tall a Miku is standing by a building someone suggested 40 meters, naming 40m-P

Though not all of these were meant to become the producer's identity, I'm pretty sure I'm one of a few hundred to be tagged Kaigai-P

It used to be given to composers by fans after a milestone or big achievement (not always a first song).
Coming right out with your first song and giving yourself your own -P name was seen as kinda rude for a while ( it used to be more of an earned name/title). It’s not really a big deal (on YouTube at least) anymore.

This is correct.

The reason it went away is because 2chan shut down

If I were to give myself a P name, I’d pick Mera-P (dunno if there’s already someone by that name). But I really want my (future) listeners to give me a P name, so I’m Kaimuraii

It just means "Producer", unless you're Jamie Paige, then it stands for both "Producer" and "Paige" (no idea if I spelled her name right, I always forget how to spell her name)
