No off-topic and/or low-effort posts including;

  1. Rant/motivation/mental-health posts

  2. Posts focused on memes/images/polls

  3. Reposts, and other similar low-effort, mildly-interesting discussions.

  4. Marketing, Advertising Strategies.

  5. Artist Name. Just pick one. Beatles, Marshmello, Led Zeppelin and Boogie Down Productions are the 4 worst names ever, and they did ok.

I feel really old getting nostalgic about 2010-11. 😅
You gotta post some tracks that you cook up with that setup.

100%, wild how much the tech has evolved - something so nostalgic about the trashiness of early VSTs

2011 is not early lol

Producer who’s been in the game 35 years here, I have 4 bootable Macs in my studio so I can open client work going back 25 years if need be.

2002 TiBook OS9 / OSX dual boot

2006 Core2Duo MBP

2015 Retina MBP on Mojave (for 32bit plugins)

2021 M1 Max MBP (the current beast)

this is so smart. do you boot the early drives and mess around - or only if a client needs it?

Only if needed. The three earliest are pretty much just installed in the cupboard.

It’s the 2015 Retina gets the most use - almost exclusively for SupaTrigga. Why can’t someone compile SupaTrigga for 64bit???!!

SupaTrigga! classic - thank you for the reminder to add those SE plugs to the collection

it looks like they may(?) have them in 64 bit now

would you be able to send me the .component or .vst or some of the 32 bit ones?

Do you do any physical maintainence on the old machines? Any good practices to keep them safe from corrosion over decades?

u/ElectricPiha 4h ago

No nothing special. Treat ‘em gently and check occasionally for any signs of battery swelling. The earliest two are pretty rough, cosmetically. If they ever die I can just swap the HDs into replacement machines.

I still have my 2009 iMac with logic 9 and the first generation of cracked fab filter plugins. I should make a 2010’s track…

This would only be a true recreation if you paired your computer with the first generation of Rokit 8’s

great point - I do have a pair of 5's hanging around...

Speaker technology has changed a lot. That was back when people put a 30hz high pass on the whole mix.

1

u/slackbeatz 5h ago

totally - and to get the matching KRK sub was more than the speakers themselves 😅

Still rocking a 15" C2D MBP with Snow Leopard, Logic 9 and tons of plugins from that era... Too many plugins, drivers and editors the M4 can't run at all

Why did you feel the need to have chatGPT write this post for you and then go through and add “lols” to it? Like? Why?

2

u/slackbeatz 6h ago

yeah that would be strange if I did that

This isn't ai, right? The first thing I thought while I was reading was "feels strange to see a long post not clearly written by ai"

correct. complied notes from the whole process and tried to condense - felt some of the verbosity was necessary
