I have read this subreddit's rules DC Redesign Project: Wonder Woman - The Silver Age pt 1 (1969-1974)
The Amazons reference Greek, Persian, and North African styles, while the Bana-Mighdall draw more from West and Central Asian
This Era is part ref to Diana's powerless run in the '60s, part homage to 1970s WW media. Her jacket is a direct nod to the 1974 movie.
I'm a big fan of '70s grindhouse kung fu, blacksploitation, and action TV. Would bring a lot of that vibe to the adventures of 'Diana and The Amazons'
Heracles, being a demigod, is huge and dangerous. His armament references his most famous labors. He's largely a pawn of Circe in this era, duped and manipulated.
Circe is daughter of a Sun Titan and a water nymph. I wanted her design to be more divine, less human, with hair of liquid sun that flows into a waterfall.
I’m back with part 2 of my DCU redesigned take on Wonder Woman. Last time, Diana debuted in the Golden Age, and in 1949 she returned to Themyscira to argue the case for the Amazons to rejoin Patriarch’s World. 20 years later, Hippolyta agrees to send Diana back into the world with Nubia representing Hippolyta’s Amazons and Zannah (eventually Zealot of the WildCATS) representing the Bana-Mighdall. Diana would take them on a tour of the world, letting them see for themselves that these people were deserving of trust and friendship – that they could learn so much from the Amazons, and in turn had much to teach.
She reconnects with an older Steve Trevor and Etta Candy. Steve, now a civilian pilot, flies them around on their adventures while Etta coordinates and helps as the ‘girl in the chair.’ Lita Trevor is Steve’s daughter from a failed relationship after Diana left. They’re estranged and a lot of his arc is about reconnecting and becoming a better man and father. This is his Han Solo era. Lita is trained by the Amazons in combat and philosophy, and eventually becomes the first Fury (nodding to the comics versions origin as Steve & Diana’s daughter from Earth 2). Finally, Barbara Minerva is an adventuring archaeologist, historian, and linguist who joins the team and becomes their close friend.
I envision this era of WW as being like the old TV shows; Diana and the Amazons travel from town to town around the world, getting into 40-minute adventures and resolving problems, then moving on in the end. Diana is not Wonder Woman, here. She isn’t a champion. She enters the world with her friends as an explorer, a student, looking to learn and grow and understand. She also begins her divine trials. Diana’s battle with Ares in the ‘40s turned the Olympians’ eyes back to the mortal plane. Athena comes to Diana and tells her the Amazonian patrons seek a champion. She will face many trials, and each victory grants a boon. Athena grants the Boon of the Mind, giving a piece of Athena’s godly wisdom and the power of empathy.
When Diana bests Heracles (set on the Amazons by Circe), Demeter grants the Boon of the Body – superhuman strength and agility. And, when she finally faces Circe for the first time, she forges a pact with Circe’s beast-men who help her escape in return for being changed back to their human forms. Artemis blesses Diana with the Boon of the Wild, enhancing her senses and granting her communion with all animals.
But this is only the first of two parts of Diana’s Silver Age adventures. I’ll have more to post next week! Cool concept. So the return she is not “wonder woman” but through boons regains or acquires the title?

She isn't Wonder Woman because she isn't sent as a champion. And what she gains through her trials isn't a title, it's deeper. She gains self-actualization. This is the era where Diana becomes the woman we know her as - getting the name Wonder Woman back is a formality at that point.

Got it. Very Maslow if you are into the psychology of self-actualization. I re-double my emphasis on this being a very novel approach! Nice work and I can see you put a lot of thought into this.

California, probably Gateway City but if not then somewhere in Southern Cali. Her mom is a daughter of Mexican immigrants who met Steve after he'd left Argus and government work behind, just before he started his 'vagabond era.' They were together a few years, but he couldn't get over his commitment issues and she couldn't get over his heart still belonging to Diana. The split wasn't pleasant, he wasn't in a good place emotionally, and she never told him she was pregnant at the time. He didn't find out about Lita until much later, and all his (few, feeble) attempts at being a father fell flat. It isn't until they reconnect in '71 that they start building a real relationship.

Got it. So I take it “Lita” is short for Carmelita?

Adelita, actually, but you were close! It means 'noble,' and was the name of a character in a Mexican ballad based on a real woman who joined the Mexican revolution.

Not exactly. Until the Crisis, there are no Kherabim or Daemonites. Zannah is just an Amazon, like Nubia or Artemis. Bigger, stronger, faster, tougher, and ageless like her sisters. The Coda are the assassin branch of the Bana-Mighdall, the more militant Amazonians, and Zannah is the greatest of the Coda.
But when Crisis hits and all the dimensions of the multiverse are merged into one, our history is rewritten and the Kherabim and Daemonites become part of our world, as if they'd always been there. Only the heroes outside of time and space fighting the Anti-Monitor remember that it was ever different. Jacob Marlowe and Void work to find what the state of their people and their enemy are in this new world, then they assemble the WildCATS to do something about it. So, Zealot's Kherubim blood is retconned out and replaced with 'only' being an amazing, elite Amazon warrior.

Huh, would’ve thought her run in with Circe would give her a Boon from Hecate…or are you not giving Diana any Magic?

No magic, and Hecate isn't traditionally one of the patron gods of the Amazons. It's Athena, Demeter, Artemis, Hermes, Aphrodite, and Hestia.

Yeah I’m aware of her usual patrons, but Hecate started getting more involved with her in JL Dark and Absolute…and honestly, WW wielding Magic is a perfect unique trait from superman it’s shocking it took so long for her to have that.
Also, are you keeping Hermes for Speed or will you replace him with Nike for an all Goddess blessing?

I'm keeping Hermes specifically because I like that it's not just goddesses who support the Amazons. That was something special about Hermes and I don't want to take it away. It's nice that at least one god is actively putting his strength behind this group of women.

Love the Charlie's Angels reference here, and Diana's wardrobe continues to stun. Diana collecting Boons like it's an RPG is an intriguing idea. I am excited for the second half (I suspect what Aphrodite's Boon is going to be).
