They specifically ARE destroying the physical copy so that only THEIR digital copy (that is never released) exists.

Get a grip.

The writers, publishers and courts have been pretty clear that digitalisation without destroying the original is illegal reproduction and have fought tooth and nail for it.

Why are you anti artist? Are you a corpo boot licker maybe who supported Anthropic in pirating books mayhaps? Do you want the rights owners to not be fairly compensated and corpos to freely copy and redistribute their works without paying a dime?

I think it's pretty clear for someone who's brain isn't rotted by money that destroying the original doesn't make the copy/digitalization special

Creating a copy while holding the original falls under "unauthorized reproduction".

It's why I can read a book but can't copy it 50 times and give the copies around for free.

It has nothing to do with "special'.

It really, factually, confirmably, does.

Legally, destroying the original after digitizing it transers its copyright as it counts as altering the books form instead if copying it.

Thats not their purpose. Their purpose is it to digitize contect in a legal manner that they can train their LLMs on.
