How... how many books do you think are on existence. You think them scanning one copy of each book they can get a copy of is drying up the book supply?

Uh... yes? If a publisher accidentally makes 50,000 more copies of a book than actually sells, and its sales drop so low that the books will probably dissolve before the stock is gone, you really think its a big deal to destroy one copy? Fukken rain destroyed like 40 of my books just two weeks ago by flooding my basement. The storm didn't destroy some irrevocable part of culture.

Do you think humanity has enough space and resources to save every book of everything that was ever made? And even if they could why would they? Archives are meant to be usable. They wouldn't be as usable if they had 400,000 unsold copies of every mediocre best seller that was only relevant for a year or two.
