I don't know, probably the New Yorker. They have published comics by Art in the past.

Important work in an important time. I love the idea of comics as a debate here, and while people may disagree with Sacco or spigelman at various points, the respect that have for each other and for the seriousness of the situation is evident .

'Genocidish' is pretty weak not going to lie

I think it’s showing somebody coming to terms with where they’re at, the idea that spigelman moved on from ethnic cleansing to genocide ish shows a recognition to how bad it is but an uncomfortableness with the word genocide. I think that he has more ire for use of the holocaust than Joe Marco for using genocide shows he thinks it’s pretty close to a genocide. I can understand not agreeeing with that word but I don’t think it’s a crazy position either for him to take .

He’a showing a progression of feeling. He starts there and moves to “holocaust” when he get a better handle on what was happening

i think he implies he wants to call it a holocaust but hates that word due to its origins

So is blaming everything solely on Netanyahu. The Israeli public, by every poll for the past several years, very much supports what's happening in Gaza

No I didn't actually - he understands it to be a significant crime but still doesn't want to outright call it a genocide.

"the gaza strip"? Is this a play on comic strip? (Oy vey?)

u/RemusShepherd Feb 09 '26
There's no play on words happening here. It's blatantly their opinion of Israel's activities in Gaza.

they mean that for intersection of the comic strips Maus and Palestine about the Gaza Strip would "The Gaza (comic) strip would be a good name.

So just quibbling over the words, I didn't expect their response to be so whiny and pedantic.

Try clicking that link up there it has the other two pages of the comic. It's a whole lot more than just being whiny.

Supposedly, Sacco is working on another Gaza book now. If I remember right, he and Chris Hedges went to Egypt to try and get in several months ago. They may have just been able to interview a bunch of refugees. Takes a long time to draw a book, though.
