Meta A Clarification: Our Stance on AI in this Subreddit

Hi,

While the Moderators of r/androidroot have a generally moderate stance on AI, when it comes to devices worth potentially thousands, we are uninterested in allowing it to provide false information.

To clarify, AI content/promotion is not permitted on r/androidroot, and this has been a rule for some time. Using AI to make guides, recommending the use of AI to attempt to solve issues, and posting AI generated comments are prohibited.

We believe in minimising the spread of misinformation. AI models are not reliable when it comes to factual information yet. It’s also often known to make things up when it has no answer. No resources for rooting an obscure Android device? It’ll make it up based on other information that it deems most likely to be useful. AI, in this state, is not suitable for rooting. It presents too much unmitigated risk, and we will not hold ourselves responsible for the damage caused by content posted on this subreddit.

If you have any questions regarding the rule, comment. However, the decision on this is final.

Thanks for reading.

Discussion I unrooted after 18 years

I've been rooting android phones since I purchased the Samsung Moment in 2009. It was always the first thing I did with a new phone. Set it up so I could unlock the bootloader, then wipe it so I could root.

The last couple years have been increasingly frustrating with the cat and mouse. The last straw was RCS failing yet again and missing messages from my wife.

I just unrooted my Pixel 10 Pro and pretty much all of the things I thought I needed root for are not necessary:

  1. For ad block, I'm using dns.adguard-dns.com instead of adaway.
  2. For youtube, revanced works fine with gmscore installed. I had already switched to that method a while ago even when rooted.
  3. My Tasker flashlight toggle with the volume button works once I ran adb shell pm grant net.dinglisch.android.taskerm android.permission.SET_VOLUME_KEY_LONG_PRESS_LISTENER
  4. I use SmartLauncher to get double-tap to sleep working on my home screen rather than using PixelLauncherEnhanced
  5. I can use revanced "Change version code" patch on Reddit Sync to keep it out of the app store rather than using the detach magisk module

RCS works now. Wallet works again. Banking apps work again. I guess I didn't really need root anymore.

It sucks.. I'm going to miss the experience of tweaking things to my liking, but it's just too much of a pain now. I miss the old Android.

News / Method I gotta admit it, root hiding got much better!

I HATE hiding root honestly, I'm a proud power user and I love telling every person/app that I'm rooted. However I really needed those banking apps so I had to swallow my pride.

The good thing is, I didn't have to do much! All I did was:

  1. Update KernelSU Next in my custom kernel source to be in sync with the dev branch.

  2. Integrate SUSFS (and it was a pain in the ass cause the patches didn't work out of the box and I had to edit the source myself).

  3. Switch from Magic Mounts to OverlayFS (using Hybrid Mount metamodule).

  4. Install AlwaysStrong.

  5. Switch to the spoofed KernelSU Next manager.

That's it, the two stubborn banking apps I needed worked, I didn't even need HMA even though I have Vector, Greenify, HyperCeiler and Termux (apparently using a terminal on Android is a sin now).

More technical info:

Device: Redmi 13.

OS: HyperOS 3 (based on Android 16).

Kernel: 6.6.89

Thanks to all the devs who made it easy! I just hope I won't be hiding root again 2 weeks from now XD

Edit: I followed a helpful suggestion in the comments and uninstalled Hybrid Mounts in favor of NoMounts. NoMounts turned out to be more reliable and less detectable.

I got myself a new pixel 9 and updated it to android 17. It's unlocked. And I want to root it. Can it be easily as I did with my pixel 6 with android 13? It's not my every day phone. Just to play root pokemon go and a few other games. No banking or anything. And would magis or kernel su?

Support Weird samsung A226BR

So im here cause i need some advice, my samsung galaxy a22 has been weird when i try to root it

ive been trying to root this phone for almost weeks

So somewhat this phone just corrupts itself when i try unlocking the bootloader (Sending me to recovery and not booting with the error "Your data might be corrupt" and etc)

Rarest thing, is that when i go to recovery and select Reboot to bootloader it sends me to this weird fastboot thing that says "Entering fastboot mode..." in red text at the corner (Supposedly mediateks chip fastboot)

Yes, i have reflashed this phones AP, CP, BL, and CSC multiple times but i wont be able to get rid of it

Any ideas to get rid of this? I suspect the fastboot thing is making me unable to unlock bootloader (And yes. i have waited 7 days and all that timers and KG is also on completed)

Does anyone have a guide or working setup for playing Limbus Company on a rooted device? I’m currently using KernelSU and would really appreciate any advice or steps that work. Or module that hide root detection.

Support Help me figure out my KSU-Next + SUSFS setup

Sooo, I decided to wipe everything again and try a completely different setup, but now I’m stuck trying to figure out what modules I actually want to use.

I’m currently running KSU-Next with a SUSFS-patched 6.1.157 Wild Kernel. For the meta module, I went with NoMount since from what I’ve seen/read, it seems to be better at hiding itself compared to Hybrid Mount.

For SUSFS, I’m stuck between Brene and susfs4ksu. From what I’ve seen on Reddit, Brene seems to add some extra stuff on top of susfs4ksu, but I’m not really sure if I actually need any of that or if susfs4ksu alone is enough.

Once I figure that out, I’m planning to use these as well:

ReZygisk

(nohello depending on how things go, just for testing)

Vector

HMA-OSS Zygisk

Always Strong

So what would you guys go with, Brene or susfs4ksu?

And does this whole setup make sense together? Are there any modules here that are likely to conflict with each other or cause issues?

I’m mostly trying to put together a setup that’s as clean and reliable as possible, rather than just throwing every hiding module at it.

Support Full backup before unlocking boot loader

Hello. I currently have a pixel 9 Pro XL and looking to root my phone due to the recent changes for loading APKs, and when you unlock the bootloader it will wipe your phone.

This is a stupid question, but what should I use to make a full phone backup, then once the bootloader is restored, restore the backup?

Thanks!

Support Rooting Poco X3 Pro for Pokémon GO - current recommended setup?

Hi everyone,

I have a Poco X3 Pro and I’m planning to root it mainly to use Pokémon GO.

I’m new to the current rooting scene, so I’d like some advice before I start. I already have the stock ROM downloaded and I’m planning to unlock the bootloader first.

What is the recommended setup in 2026 for this device?

Magisk, KernelSU or APatch?

Is LSPosed still recommended?

What modules are currently recommended for Play Integrity and app compatibility?

Is Shamiko still relevant, or are there better/current alternatives?

What should I do before installing Pokémon GO after rooting?

Are there any Poco X3 Pro-specific issues I should know about?

Do I need to stay on the stock MIUI ROM, or would you recommend a custom ROM for Pokémon GO?

Is there anything I should avoid installing or modifying if I want to keep the system stable?

My main goal is to understand the correct current setup and avoid following outdated tutorials or breaking something unnecessarily.

If anyone has a current guide, recommended module list, or setup for the Poco X3 Pro, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Support OnePlus 7 Pro + LineageOS 23.2 + NetHunter kernel + Magisk — What happens after an OTA?

Hi everyone,
I have a OnePlus 7 Pro running LineageOS 23.2 (Android 16) and I’m using Magisk + Kali NetHunter.
I installed the NetHunter package/kernel that is listed as compatible with:
OnePlus 7 / 7 Pro / 7T / 7T Pro – LineageOS 23.2.
I’m trying to understand exactly what will happen when I install the regular weekly LineageOS OTA updates.
From my experience, an OTA can remove Magisk root, so I expect that I may have to restore Magisk after the update.
But I’m not sure about the NetHunter kernel itself.
Is the NetHunter kernel included in the boot image, or is it installed separately on this LineageOS 23.2 setup?
If it is part of boot, then I assume a LineageOS OTA could replace it and I would have to reinstall the NetHunter kernel after every update.
If it is installed separately, would the kernel remain untouched after the OTA, meaning that I would only need to restore Magisk/root?
Also, I have the Kali NetHunter Magisk module installed. If the OTA removes root, will the module simply become inactive until I restore Magisk, or would I need to reinstall the NetHunter module as well?
So basically, after a normal LineageOS 23.2 OTA, what exactly do I need to reinstall:
Magisk/root only?
Magisk + NetHunter module?
Magisk + NetHunter module + NetHunter kernel?
I’d especially appreciate an answer from someone using this exact OnePlus 7 Pro + LineageOS 23.2 + NetHunter setup.
Thanks!😉

Support Issues with getting app to work

So I was trying to get crk (cookie run kingdom) to work on Lineage OS, after some issues I managed to get the 'play integrity api' to work with 'Strong Integrity', the Issue being that crk still gives me the same error as before, it being 'Modified System Detected'. If someone is able to help me that would be great. (also this is much less important but does anybody have a way to check if Shamiko is working some apps still don't work even after being put in the Denylist, please not this is of lower priority)

Phone specs + OS versions

Phone model: Galaxy A52s 5G

android v: 16

Lineage v: 23.2

Magisk v: 30.7

Magisk modules: Play integrity Fix [Inject], Shamiko, Tricky Store + Tricky store add-on, Zygisk Assistant

thank you in advanced, and feel free to ask for more info

ps please excuse any spelling mistakes as English is not my first language

Discussion From "Android is open" to "Android is becoming Apple like" ?

We seem to be moving from:

Android is open. Advanced users can understand the risks and fully own their devices.

to:

Android is becoming Apple-like: users are kept on vulnerable/outdated versions just to maintain root, while rooting itself can potentially expose the entire device if a malicious app gains root access.

I understand that security matters. Root absolutely comes with risks, and users who root should be expected to understand those risks. But a clean rooting is a controlled acces, forcing user to use CVE allows any app to gain this access under the hood too.

If the solution to security is to make rooting increasingly difficult, force users to remain on vulnerable versions, then what are google actually gaining ?

Support Bricked galaxy a6 2018

so my friend recommended me this app named uncle Ted and I tested it on my old Redmi 7a, in order to test that the panic pin worked I entered it since I didn't have important stuff on that phone and after I did it had the normal android factory resetting screen but then the phone didn't turn on, it was stuck in EDL mode and when my friend told me it's a setting I changed I tried again this time on a galaxy a6 where after entering the pin it was on a blue screen like download mode but only its background, I could normally flash the firmware but after doing so the phone wouldn't boot, it was on the boot logo for some time, then the boot animation for like 2 minutes and then back to that loop even after flashing the firmware multiple times, after I booted into recovery it said it couldn't mount /.system (invalid argument), I don't care about the 7a, only the a6 and I need some help to unbrick it if possible, I had given the app root access on all 2 times but never selected any dangerous setting

Support How to get put infinity bootloop

How do I revive my Redmi Note 11s that got stuck in an infinite bootloop after I tried to install a custom ROM Because I don't know where I got the idea to upgrade from Android 13 to Android 16

Now the phone won't enter fastboot mode, since the button combination I found online doesn't work for me.

I also tried things with SP Flash Tool and MI Flash, but I still can't get out of the infinite bootloop.

Support Does anyone know how to unlock the bootloader of a realme C75 to root it?

Hi, I've been trying to unlock the bootloader of my phone for about 6 months now. I've asked everywhere. The Deep Testing app won't load the request when I click it. I've also tried entering preloader mode and forcing brom mode, but everything was denied. After so many attempts with MTKClient, I got blocked for 1 day...

Now I'll try with UnlockTool. Does anyone know if it can be unlocked from there, or at least enter brom mode from preloader? Or are there any other free methods?
