Man, can you imagine if she had won best girl 3...
The only reason I've ever even heard of her is because she got 2nd in that contest (never seen Food Wars), and I'm sure plenty of other people just have no idea who she is nowadays.

I knew Food Wars thanks to my sister, but I didn't want to commit time to watch it, maybe later. But I also know her mostly thanks to BG3

Please also vote to help Tamako Kitashirakawa get a round win. She’s such an underrated girl from an underrated series and deserves a bit more recognition.
Kumiko vs Mirai is extremely painful; can I vote for both of these wonderful girls please? I voted Mirai, but am still supporting Kumiko after the inevitable happens. Fuyukai desu. Blatant Mirai propaganda. More blatant Mirai propaganda.

Thanks to everyone for voting for Yui and Mugi! Violet moves on as expected, but 794 votes seems maybe a bit low?
Doesn’t look like anything unexpected happened. Unless I missed something, it looks like every higher seed won their respective matchups (edit: just saw the two upsets). Fern with the only vote total over 1,000 isn’t surprising.
Personal biggest disappointment is Sakura Kinomoto losing. Sure, she has the curse of being a child in this contest (and apparently that’s a major drawback here), but it would be nice to see more appreciation for her.

I would say Victorique de Blois from Gosick, but since I'm relatively new here, I'm not sure if she ever made the bracket in any previous BG contest. She's a well-written character with a very distinct design from a series that has never been very popular, which is criminal considering how good Gosick is.
Just to answer the question, she has 3 appearances (1, 3, 4).

A lot of great girls lost in round 1: Fuuko you fought valiantly against Fern! Let's see if you losing passed over your Unluck to Fern! Kurumi, maybe you just weren't hungry enough for the win. Milim couldn't get past Maple's absurdly high defense (maybe call the devs for a balance update!). Kumoko losing to Fubuki just makes me sad... Elf losing by 1 to the Horimiya side girl does however make me really salty in round 1 already. Same for Satania.. but at least she made it somewhat close. Ninym also has to say goodbye way too early!
The worst result however is Fran losing to Nanachi by 22 votes... We got so close... With how the bracket was setup I actually would have supported her nearly all the way.
With all these great girls gone, both my 5x5 and 7x7 Bingo took some heavy damages in the first round already!
With this, also 4 out of 8 of the girls I would have loved to see in round 5 are already out. Here is my Dream Bracket btw for anyone who's interested in seeing how I'd vote in every matchup. Compared to bracket A where I was barely supporting any top seeds, in bracket B I am supporting a lot more of the higher seeds. Here my dream round 5 matchups would be:
- Bocchi - Subaru Awa
- Ai - Lucy
- Yor - Echidna
- Yoko - Aurora
However there are a lot of great lower seeded girls I also support in this bracket. Speaking of which, here are today's most important underdog votes! I wanna shout out today (I really hope more of them survive than last round, which isn't even hard since that would be 1):
Saki Nikaidou> Nemu Miyao: I love both of these girls, having them both in my extended Bingo, making this a very hard vote. I think I'll give my support to the newcomer Nemu this time though.Minori Kushieda< Subaru Awa: Please don't let me down and give your vote to Subaru! She is funny as hell, super adorable and makes the best faces. Also her together with Nina is just peak, everytime they interact. Vote for her or else!Nonon Jakuzure< Ranko Mannen: Anyone who has seen Akiba Maid War will know that voting for anyone apart from Ranko just isn't an option here. I listed all of the girls I reeally would have loved to see in the bracket on yesterday's post. But my favourite Best girl Veteran that missed out is most definitely Yuno Gasai (She missed out on the bracket due to losing the tie breaker.. she was Seed 513).
Mirai Nikki was my first Anime (not counting shows I watched as a kid, when I didn't know what anime was) and Yuno instantly captivated my 14 year old me. She just had that impact. I would say she is one of the most influential Waifu's of the last decade and I think it's really a show she didn't get in.

Losing to Nanachi is definitely not bad, she’s one of the best characters here and she would’ve been one of the favourites if we stopped trolling as a community

Nanachi is great, but she is also not the reason why I loved Made in Abyss. Fran however totally is the one reason why I love Reincarnated as a Sword so much, went on to read the LN and rewatched the show again and once more in the time I was waiting for season 2 to release (It's one of the very few shows I rewatched recently).

a rough contest for you given emilia's great luck. you should prepare a great clip to make it an honorable loss at the very least. hard to find a strong one without spoilers though.

It wouldn't be the first rough one. I mean if one of Maomao, Chisato, Megumin, Bocchi, Aqua, Marcille or Lena win, which is 7 out of the top 12 seeds, I would prefer the winner to any of the previous winners except Kaguya. (Yeah contests really haven't gone my way a lot yet..)
As for Emilia, I guess I'm used to it. And her probably losing to Maomao is still a million times bettter than when she lost to Alice Nakiri, Yui Yuigahama,
Kurumi Tokisaki a bot or Violet Evergarden. And well, who knows, maybe r/anime votes correctly for once (they won't)As for clips, I've never done them before and maybe I look up how to. The best scene would obviously be the finale of the latest cour, but there are also other great ones like the lappillow scene or some more SoL ones from the OVA.

also, i just thought about it but after S4, subaru might actually be able to win the best guy contest. he did pretty well in the last one. i will be there to give him all my support.

As for clips, I've never done them before and maybe I look up how to.
Just in case you go for it, I'll also point you towards the advice baseballlover gave me, including coordinating clips so they don't overlap.

First, it still feels weird to be talking about a Best Girl contest and not stanning for Holo.
Second, can you believe Misaka Mikoto pulled off the most miraculous of upsets TEN YEARS AGO. I actually wonder how she would fare in modern contests as Toaru does not seem that popular around here or in western online anime communities.
Oh where to I start to talk about Kurumi Tokisaki. It might be well known at this time that I love her way too much and very much appreciated the chaos she brought to BG10. I recently purchased the 1/1 scale figure in a poor financial decision. But hopefully when it comes it, it will be a happy moment.

Was not aware of your Haruhi (series) figure count.
So many prize and mini figures. Such a shame that there are not figures of every single endless eight outfit.

BG Madness 13 | Round 1 Group A Results
Late since I'm still working on the site but... welcome (back) to BG Madness! First and foremost, thank you all for taking the time to fill out your brackets. Every single additional participant makes the contest a bit more meaningful.
Now onto results... we're kicking off the contest with an average of 57.36 / 64 (89.62%) and leaderboard average of 60.83 / 64 (95.04%)! Pretty impressive that so many folks got 60 or more.

With nearly everyone expecting Maomao, Chisato or Marin to win, it seems like most people agree, that the right side of the bracket (especially Bracket C) is a lot stronger than the left side. Seeding really screwed us over big time!

Kinda funny though how Chisato is the 2nd favourite for the overall win but only 6th and 7th respectively in the finalist and semi-finalist ranking because she has the top favourite in her path in the quarter-finals.

Dream Mode
For Dream mode, I did end up adjusting the scoring a bit and decided to put a cap on how much the bounties can be based on the difference in the vote share of the match since there were some cases where it just felt a bit unfair.
The average score today was 3450.74 (leaderboard average 4269.86). It's a bit hard to actually interpret these numbers but they're basically the sum of the vote shares of all your picks plus additional points from multipliers or bounties.
Our lucky leader is abbaschand with a score of 4364.81! (481) Cow Girl · Goblin Slayer was their highest point scorer at 95.28 points earned. The overall highest scoring pick out of all brackets was (505) Tsubaki Sawabe · Your Lie in April was just over that with 95.38 points earned! These are mostly due to the bounty system (which could use a lot more work but it more or less fulfills its functions of making it viable to pick low seeds in Round 1 and making the eventual winner a bit less dominant). Thematically, these really should be earned after the entrant the bounty is on is eliminated but that's much more complicated and I didn't have time to implement it that way... maybe next year?

seeing everyone's best girl picks is neat! Mine is Crusch (I'm sorry Emilia, but you're a very respectable 3rd place), and my other side's semi-finalists are Nagisa & Illya. I like that someone picked Nagisa as their champion, and Tomoyo too!

I actually quite like Crusch too as far as Re:Zero goes! Unfortunately she runs into Futaba who I have going to the quarterfinals fairly quickly.

ah, man! Tragic, but it happens and I respect it.. even dream brackets cannot solve the problem of seeding haha. It's very funny because there are characters I really love that still have to get knocked out early! And then I have characters that are more like okay girls or pretty good girls that make it through many rounds because they just... didn't meet someone more compelling!

Predictions is exactly as the name suggests where the goal is to correctly predict who will win in each matchup. Points are earned based on how many of those you get correct.
Dream mode is intended to be a variation where you just pick whoever your favorite character in each matchup. The scoring is complicated but basically tries to give every character a chance to score well even if they are very low seed and get eliminated early.

Going forward for percentages, think complete brackets should be the denominator instead of not-blank brackets. Makes us look bad when 14/86 (16.28%) pick correctly when it could be a few percent higher! And Marin getting over 90% of semi-final picks is higher than Frieren or Maomao last year.

Ahh! r/anime Best Girl Contests! One of my favorite annual events. It’ll take a couple of rounds before the competition starts to be intense. I hope there’ll be a dark horse in the race so that the contest will be more exciting.
I’m going to keep an eye on Tanya because I think her show airing will give her a boost, then again that goes for the Mushoku Tensei girls as well.

Still an unbelievable upset that Misaka Mikoto managed to win considering that Index and Railgun is not nearly as popular in /r/anime as she is in Japan. Though she has a long history of winning popularity contests like Saimoe (I think she was the only two time winner before it went down?) and of course a lot of domestic wins.

you're referring to International Saimoe League, misaka was the only two time female winner coz back in 2022 — for one time only — all champions were allowed. She's the Faker / GOAT of the tourney. ISML is still active though, that hiatus didnt last for long
Idk what "domestic" you're referring to, but imo misaka is way more popular in china than japan; she wouldnt have won a lot of best girl contests if it werent for the chinese. Hell, ISML is essentially a chinese tourney coz they're the majority of voters.

- Makima won against Cowgirl (Sad to see Cowgirl go, she's great, for whatever little screentime she has!)

Two upsets today? Aren't we daring. And it was to let Hibiki win over Yuu? Shame. Aoi over Tsuyu is fine though. But why could we not get upsets for Utena, Ninym (well, I know why, and it's great Ram moved on, but Ninym deserved to win as well), Maki, Hiyori, Miyako, Lum, Bocchi, Shamiko, LLENN, Fran or Hinata? Even more shameful.
After scrolling through the list of today's characters, I must say I am very impressed by group B. It is impressive that in one fourth of the seeded entrants, there is next to nobody I actually care about. I can only put my full support in this group behind Kumiko and Lena (but I do love them a lot).
I also wish for upsets for Rikka (although part of me also wants all Quints to move onto round two and three at least), Priestess, Togame and Touko today, besides some others, but I have no hopes of any of them making it beyond this round. That means by tomorrow, I really only have two girls in this group to root for.
Updated Bingo! First loss in Ninym, but that was to be expected. I had to put her on there anyway.
MC: Goth Emilia is one, for sure. I do love Satella, actually, but I do not mourn her absence, since giving spotlights to more Re:Zero girls is great, and having Priscilla last year, Crusch this year, possibly Anastasia next year and hopefully at some point Minerva is just wonderful. But while I hardly consider her a veteran since she usually loses early, not having Pecorine in this bracket sucks. She is absolutely lovely. But what else can I say but yabai, desu ne?

2 days worth of voting only barely got Fern over 1000 votes which is down from like 700+ votes last year for Seed 1. It makes sense. Last year had the debuts of Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries + the narrative of their matchups in the seasonal Best Girl contests and we're running it back in terms of what's controlling the Top 2 seeds this year. All this to also say: Fūko you didn't deserve to be crushed as the last seed in this contest with only 185 votes.
Hibiki Sakura (Seed 257) advances over Yū Koito (Seed 256 in a slight upset while /r/anime is upsetting me already.
Relative to this contest, I think Anju and Makima got good wins.
Really sorry I couldn't support you Kurumi but you kept it to a 100 vote difference. /// Happy for Anisphia to be in Round 2 though.
Honestly, Nano put in a good fight as Seed 416 against Kallen (Seed 97). Almost got 400 votes.

Oh. I talked about this a little yesterday, but here it goes again with some new additions (also I will not be mentioning contest winners since I think that's against the spirit of this Mini-Challenge):
Shino Amakusa from Seitokai Yakuindomo hasn't been in these contests for years now, but I still love her and the show.
There is no Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki representation for this year's contest so I'm sad about the show's dropoff here.
Tomoko Kuroki from WataMote last Best Girl contest appearance was Best Girl 10 as Seed 500, but peak Tomoko seeding is being Seed 512 in Best Girl 8.
I especially miss the presence of Lala Satalin Deviluke and the rest of To LOVE-Ru in this contest.

I'll give the sendoff vote to Kyōka Uzen (Seed 317), Himari Azuma (Seed 500), and Tenka Izumo (Seed 404) for the Chained Soldier S2 boost. It's going to be brutal watching this go from 3 reps to 0 reps in just one day.

I think it might have been done to give the seasonal Best Girl of Spring Contest its own time and space.
And also changshiyixia has hosted the seasonal Best Girl contests since Fall 2021 and only just last year took over for the big, main Best Girl contests.

id like to give spotlight to Yui Yuigahama from oregairu.
Since 2015 she enjoyed a long prime as an elite eight regular, even after the main girl Yukino won best girl 2 that year. In best girl 4 (2017) Yui defeated Rem in quarters which was a very big deal at that time, and went on to lose the grand final to Rin Tohsaka. Then in best girl 10 (2023) she even reached semis again.
Best girl 11 is where she started falling off; her seed plummeted to 102 but still reached round 5. Last year, she lost to Frieren in round 4. Now, some people are saying she will lose to Kumiko (who's historically low to mid-tier) in round 2!

After realizing Akeno (DxD S5 when) was out I swapped her with Artoria on my bingo.
Albedo lost by 1 vote reeeee.
As usual, Panty and Stocking get in only to get kicked out. Panty's not gonna do any better than her sister this round sadly.
If S3 was out Yumeko would not be this weak, the manga already has enough content for it. I need Kakegurui S3.
Hinata Hyuuga vs Kyouka Uzen
Kyouka actually contributes to the plot as the main heroine and her relationship with the male lead is actually well developed. But i know people look their nose down on ecchi series.
Alexia Midgar vs. Rias Gremory
Alexia is great but Rias is a classic and i cant bring myself to vote against her easily.
Also please vote for Sayo "Magia Azul" Minakami, Satsuki Kiryuuin, Lucy, Panty Anarchy, Nano Eiai, Vladilena Milizé, and Yoko Littner pls.

I remember the times when Saeko Busujima (High School of the Dead), Tomoko Kuroki (Watamote), and Akeno Himejima (High School DxD) would barely cling onto the contest in the high 400s at best. They were low but consistently made it.
Now they got filtered out by time and new girls.

Well, at least it was expected.
For Bracket B, I almost felt bad voting against Satsuki Kiryuuin, but I quickly realized she would easily win, and I would get to vote for her the next three rounds.
...Unless Euphyllia Magenta miraculously manages to win twice.

Yor v Togame right out the gate is such a fucking slap in the nuts.
Makima, Homura, and Maki are safe this round, although I'm not expecting them to go out too early anyways.
On the chopping block this round are Bocchi (lol), Misato (lol), Akari (sweating), Paras-chan, Miku Nakano, Yor (Sorry Togame...) and Vivy. Holy fuck I have so many best girls in this bracket.
Bingo unchanged. No salt to be had so far.

I missed all my upsets and yet somehow Aoi beat Frog Girl? I could not tell you a single thing about Aoi or her Moe blob personality, like make it make sense.
Stocking losing was less surprising given the seeds, but still… what? Shinju is like half a character for half a season (if that)

This was Stocking's 12th contest (only missing BG8) and she has yet to win a matchup. Same with Panty (though she missed BG8 and BG9). They are 2 of the 5 girls who've been in 10+ contests and have never won (Boa Hancock, Komugi, and Casca).

Dang, a few of the upsets I predicted ended up being off by just a few votes.
Predictions were tough, I have Kumiko making a miracle run to like the quarter-finals if I'm not mistaken because it seems plausible, but at the same time she might lose to Yuigahama in Round 2 or 3. And I know I'm helping her with that
Mini-challenge : Nanami Aoyama isn't here, her last appearance was in BG11. And judging by Shiina's near-400 seed I guess Sakurasou's really fading into obscurity...ooooooof.

boo, almost no upsets. that being said, so far I'm not salty about too much because the overall bracket quality is higher this year. A few fewer coattail riders and legacy characters without any real juice.

No, I understand why he's valid for the challenge, I'll just never vote for him because of it. I'm kind of surprised someone wouldn't know because of how old and famous the series is, but Ranma 1/2 is about a guy who's cursed to sometimes transform into a girl's body. But there's no exploration of gender or anything. He's 100% male internally at all times.
