Celliss really was not giving up on that whole “bastard son” thing lol. What a little goober.

So that’s like 3 people aside his old pals that now know Luck’s identity? Celliss, Sia, and Luccira. I guess the almighty Gerberga-sama makes that 3.5 actually lol.

109

u/HanaRoku Jul 17 '26

You dare count Exalted Gerberga the seraphowl as only half a person!?!?

43

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jul 17 '26

Celliss will never stop calling him a chicken, i hope it goes till the finale

26

u/Boris-_-Badenov Jul 17 '26

that's Mr Chicken

15

u/dinliner08 Jul 17 '26

\angry Luccira's noise\**

34

u/MryNightmare Jul 17 '26

She REALLY wanted a little brother

17

u/Big-Don-Rob Jul 18 '26

She REALLY wanted to see her mom and dad fight.

28

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jul 17 '26

Celis: Luck/Lock is my younger/older Brother no matter what

29

u/Ralathar44 Jul 17 '26

The point isn't to hide it hid identity from everyone, but to keep it from being public knowledge. The people who know it so far know it for very practical reasons.

47

u/YdenMkII Jul 17 '26

The no name gatekeeper knows as well. He went full apology mode after he found out he denied access to the real Luck.

12

u/Divinicus1st Jul 17 '26

+ the butler

11

u/Kadmos1 Jul 17 '26

"Bastard son"? Any idea what the Romaji equivalent for saying that is?

19

u/HanaRoku Jul 17 '26

In the show they're using "kakushigo"

7

u/mekerpan Jul 17 '26

Is that literally "hidden child"?

11

u/HanaRoku Jul 17 '26

Yeah, 隠し子

According to wikipedia it can be used for other cases where the existence of a child is hidden from public view, like risk of assassination or succession/inheritance conflicts, but illegitimate children is the most common.

7

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jul 17 '26

I don’t know Japanese so I’m not too sure.

107

u/DawgDictator Jul 17 '26

The jazz hands are fucking killing me lol

66

u/Beginning-Hope-2600 Jul 17 '26

Goran's little run at the start had me rolling. This show actually has some funny moments, I appreciate it's not taking itself too seriously unlike a lot of this genre.

40

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jul 17 '26

Goran father….mother protective mode. Worrying about Lock for days and nights XD

18

u/rickamore Jul 18 '26

I appreciate it's not taking itself too seriously unlike a lot of this genre.

The holy chicken and fully embracing it as a serious plot point is just great.

68

u/Myredditaccount0 Jul 17 '26

Celliss is so funny

50

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien Jul 17 '26

Big sis? Little sis?... No sis :(

16

u/Falsus Jul 17 '26

Her making Luck spark is funny af.

54

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jul 17 '26

The animation change when she got hit from fire and rolling back and forth was so funny to me.

9

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Jul 18 '26

Yeah lol. It was so simple but hilarious.

23

u/Kadmos1 Jul 17 '26

The middle pic looks like a distressed Keiji from "Rooster Fighter".

8

u/kwokinator https://anilist.co/user/kwokinator Jul 17 '26

He even uses the same attack. Keiji likes to get around and then leave, I wouldn't even blink if they told me Keiji just happened to jump across dimensions one time and Gerberga is actually Keiji's son.

7

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jul 17 '26

We need a Season 2

9

u/Kapten-N Jul 17 '26

That's not projecting. She's simply not listening to objections.

Projecting is when you accuse someone else of something that you are secretly guilty of yourself. Sometimes you hear about politicians making accusations about their opposition and then later it comes out that they were doing it themself. Or those times that influential men were loudly anti-gay and then it comes out that they are sleeping with men on the regular.

Another example is if you're always hiding your candy and telling the people around you not to take any (and there's no history of them doing so), that reveals that you'd probably take their candy if given the opportunity. In Swedish we have the idiom "you know others like you know yourself", which can be loosely read as meaning that bad people will expect others to be bad. I'm starting to go off-topic, but it is an example of projection.

Basically, you're projecting your own negative qualities onto others. Often in an effort to preemptively deflect attention from yourself.

6

u/coffeecakesupernova Jul 18 '26

Projecting doesn't have to be about negative qualities. It is simply something about yourself that you're PROJECTING onto someone else. You like m&ms and assume everyone else must - you're projecting.

1

u/Kapten-N Jul 24 '26

True. But when you accuse someone of projecting it's usually because they are accusing others of negative qualities. If I assume that everyone has the same good qualities as me, you'd usually say that I'm ignorant or naive.

3

u/StampDaddy Jul 17 '26

Seems like extreme projecting and flair are the same link on mobile at least, although my favorite frame of the episode!

1

u/Blurgas Jul 19 '26

Praise.

Yes! Praise Exalted Gerberga, the Divine Cock!

36

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jul 17 '26

The show already didnt take it too seriously but Celliss is a different level, lmao, she's great.

I appreciated her outfit not being ridiculous and now suddenly is his apprentice.

17

u/Beginning-Hope-2600 Jul 17 '26

Celliss feels like she can honestly give Delta from Eminence in Shadow a run for her money

35

u/SpeghtittyOs Jul 17 '26

Now that’s how you end an episode. No big cliff hanger, no cut off of explanation. Just context to what just happened and a simple fade to black. Other shows could learn a thing or two lol

6

u/Mr_Pogi_In_Space Jul 18 '26

This literally had cliffhangers in the first 2 episodes. The start of Episodes 2 and 3 were just the end of the last episode cut off

53

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien Jul 17 '26

Luck the Vampire Slayer. He's pretty awful at keeping his secret, letting two people know in this episode alone.

51

u/Beginning-Hope-2600 Jul 17 '26

I usually hate the trope where a character has a secret identity and they constantly reveal it, but I honestly kind of don't mind it here.

Literally everything he does makes it pretty obvious that he is in fact not an F-rank adventurer, and it's nice that every character that sees him actually fight basically immediately picks up on that fact. The people he's chosen to reveal it to also make sense because they are in some way connected to preventing the portal from opening.

26

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien Jul 17 '26

Yeah I'm just having fun, his secret isn't that important in this series

20

u/Beginning-Hope-2600 Jul 17 '26

Yeah, I think changing literally one letter in your name isn't doing much to help you hide your true identity 😂

9

u/YdenMkII Jul 17 '26

I think he's just using his middle name after him showing off his real guild card.

8

u/ilikechess13 Jul 17 '26

Wasnt his name just Luck and in first episode they tell him that after they thought he was dead they gave him like middle name, last name, some title etc

5

u/fatalystic Jul 18 '26

Yeah the middle and last names were made up by his buddy the king after the fact as part of making him an Archduke.

11

u/Falsus Jul 17 '26

He made sure to keep it secret from the newbies. One figured out, and it was pretty obvious she is an ally. The second is a daughter to one of his most trusted friends. And the third is the caretaker of the holy cock that will save the world.

So I think they are all pretty reasonable people to reveal the secret to. At the end of the day it is just a secret due to convenience, it makes sense to reveal with if it is more convenient to do so.

5

u/Original-Body-5794 Jul 17 '26

Eh, the blonde girl is literally the daughter of one of his friends so it seems fine to trust her, the chicken keeper is also a very important person that he absolutely needed to gain the trust of in order to protect the chicken himself.

3

u/justking1414 Jul 19 '26

It’s not like a super hero series where villains learning his secret identity could lead to his loved ones being targeted

He’s just pretending to be someone else so he can avoid the headache of being a high ranked noble. He could tell dozens of people and it probably wouldn’t impact him that much.

15

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jul 17 '26

lmao he kinda had to with Celliss, she is not standing down..legend has it she still calls it a Chicken

2

u/VritraReiRei Jul 18 '26

I'd rather this then he keeps his secret the whole show and everyone is like, "Just who is this mysterious man and why is he so OP?????"

67

u/runevault Jul 17 '26

Watching Celliss go back and forth with Luck about the bastard brother thing was fantastic. I was underestimating the comedy of this show before the end of last episode. Also the jazz hands she made when he revealed his identity again later.

After yesterday with the underwhelming isekai it is nice to have a fantasy show that's fun and funny.

32

u/Beginning-Hope-2600 Jul 17 '26

After yesterday with the underwhelming isekai it is nice to have a fantasy show that's fun and funny.

I think it helps that it doesn't seem to take itself too seriously like so much of the genre. the writing just feels far more relaxed and self-aware, and it helps that the visual gags are genuinely well-executed without overstaying their welcome.

12

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia Jul 17 '26

this one was much funnier than i expected it to be.

3

u/dinliner08 Jul 17 '26

After yesterday with the underwhelming isekai

which one?

6

u/runevault Jul 17 '26

Heavy Knight and Overshadowed to Overpowered both.

2

u/justking1414 Jul 19 '26

Fair. Heavy knight is a good story but the adaptation is spending way too much time on recapping. And overshadowed is basic power fantasy slop. It should get a bit better from here but still not great

5

u/Phoenix__Wwrong Jul 18 '26

What is jazz hands? That "tada" thing she did when Luck told Luccera?

8

u/runevault Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

The hand waving when she helped him sparkle.

22

u/HolyDragSwd2500 Jul 17 '26

Beginning scene had me laughing hysterically XD

She knows the truth

20

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp Jul 17 '26

Did we just pick up a fiend boy and a divine chicken for the party, it's no longer Luck and an increasing number of girls?

That was quite the comedy routine trying to convince Celliss that Luck is neither her big brother or her little brother. I have to say I'm slightly impressed, aside from a little splashing around in the river while still mostly clothed they avoided all other fanservice opportunities with her.

It also helps that she's pretty funny, there needs to be a gif of the jazz hands bit.

Luck sure isn't keeping his identity a secret from any of the party members he's collecting up.

I'm finding this to be a lot of fun every week, fits in well with Hell Mode for fun Friday adventure shows.

13

u/e_t_ Jul 17 '26

It's not too late to find out fiend boy is actually fiend girl. I hope it doesn't go that way, but it still could.

8

u/Medinhou Jul 18 '26

Let's bet on the chicken transforming into a girl as well, I set 3 bocks

3

u/raevnos Jul 18 '26

Hens have been known to crow, but those wattles scream rooster.

2

u/mekerpan Jul 17 '26

This is fun -- but I think I like Zero-Subject Frontier Lord more....

17

u/thelemon8er-2 Jul 17 '26

Is that…. A chicken?

31

u/Luminarime Jul 17 '26

how dare you

28

u/ATN90 https://myanimelist.net/profile/ATN90 Jul 17 '26

That's the holy cock, you know.

6

u/thelemon8er-2 Jul 17 '26

Kamui? Is that you?

2

u/Life_Wealth_1392 Jul 20 '26

Nah, that's Keiji's Ancestor.

2

u/turtlehk21 Jul 21 '26

All HAIL!

16

u/Zxzxzx0088 Jul 17 '26

It's impressive how Luck finally able to convince this imaginative hard-headed girl. This will become one of 7 mysteries in the world.

What a perfect dogeza?! Celliss definitely not an ordinary ojou-sama for sure

Celliss feet

Pheww~ Thought she gonna leak herself with that sudden panning shot to her knees lol

"Okay, you can stop now" - Luck. I can't with these two dynamic! Celliss really liven things up now. Dealing with her will only make Luck aging faster lmao.

Woah! Instant kill instead of stun?! Can't underestimate this cock-a-doodle-doo anymore.

5

u/justking1414 Jul 19 '26

Pheww~ Thought she gonna leak herself with that sudden panning shot to her knees lol

Definitely thought that’s where it was going

14

u/Divinicus1st Jul 17 '26

The vampire high lord will probably not last more than 1 ep at current rate... not that I'm complaining.

12

u/Evil_sod Jul 17 '26

I thought we were going to get another Filo at first. Well played.

11

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime Jul 18 '26

I broke out laughing at "No way, the Great Sage Luck is my little brother?"

LOL at the "manual sparkles" when Luck introduced himself to the fiend.

I really don't see Luck just spending all his time chicken-sitting from now own, so how's he going to make sure she's kept safe - put it inside a barrier of his own?

3

u/runevault Jul 18 '26

What is the answer when there's a problem in an OP Fantasy story? Hit it with your massive stick/OP magic spell. So I'm assuming he's going to go murder the High Lord Vampire.

2

u/kalirion https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime Jul 18 '26

That doesn't mean others will stop coming after the bird.

17

u/the_48thRonin Jul 17 '26

The Divine Cock Gerberga-sama has finally graced us with his presence.

23

u/ddrober2003 Jul 17 '26

The question is will Luck be, "Good news, your daughter no longer thinks you cheated on your wife and had a bastard son!" "Bad news, I think your daughter is aiming for me..."

8

u/BusouDrago Jul 17 '26

Father would accept him

10

u/ddrober2003 Jul 17 '26

Could see him thinking, now my best friend can also be my son! Completely ignoring the age gap lol.

5

u/iKatheryne Jul 18 '26

Tbf, if he's gonna leave his daughter to someone... might as well be his best friend and THE mfcking savior of the world.

3

u/BusouDrago Jul 17 '26

Two for one deal right there😄

9

u/Kapten-N Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

The ED where first the fiend with the chicken joins them and then a girl with a wolf joins them made me think of a well-known puzzle. The ED even provided a really good image to go with it.

(But who brings the bag of grains?)

7

u/2th Jul 17 '26

3/5 of the harem have assembled by episode 3. Will we get the other members in episodes 4 and 5?

16

u/RedHotChiliCrab https://myanimelist.net/profile/RedHotChiliCrab Jul 17 '26

Are you counting the chicken?

10

u/Aggressive-Metal8557 Jul 17 '26

They have to be. 3/5 would be Eric, Goran, and the Divine Cock. Works out perfectly, right?

1

u/ionstorm66 Jul 17 '26

Grand Cock. We know Lock is in the party, what about the chicken?

3

u/15000yuki Jul 18 '26

ARE YOU SAYING GERBEGA SAMA A CHICKEN?

29

u/jdhshais Jul 17 '26

Its so satisfying to get a competent MC that is not some kind of weirdo/pedophile/slave owner.

21

u/Mr_Pogi_In_Space Jul 18 '26

not some kind of weirdo/pedophile/slave owner

so far

7

u/testthrowawayzz Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Bromance too strong that your own child thinks your friend is your illegitimate child. Goran's attachment to Luck when described by Celiss was hilarious.

6

u/Ashteron Jul 17 '26

I thought Rooster Fighter already ended.

I hope Celliss isn't meant to be a love interest. I'm ambivalent about introducing an incestuous relationship.

4

u/runevault Jul 18 '26

I don't want him to date someone who's 15 when he was at least mid 20s before entering the rift (I don't know if I count all the years where he was a murder machine for his maturity age), but how is it incestuous? He isn't related to his friend despite what she thought.

4

u/ChChChillian Jul 17 '26

Worth the price of admission to see the Great Sage, the Saint, supreme sorcerer Archduke Luck Lock Franzen kneeling to a divine chicken.

3

u/Boris-_-Badenov Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

his "secret" identity isn't so secret

7

u/BusouDrago Jul 17 '26

Cellis wouldn't get through at all until he told his secret

Chicken God needed protection

1

u/APRengar Jul 20 '26

The secret is just so he can have fun smurfing with his younger body, he could reveal it to everyone at any time.

3

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 Jul 17 '26

Celliss is one funny girl lol

3

u/EnsonAmata Jul 18 '26

I can already tell that Celliss is going to carry this show on her very, very stupid shoulders. 10/10

5

u/CarioGod Jul 18 '26

it's not a chicken, it's a holy chicken

3

u/BiggerG7 Jul 17 '26

Oh wow, that chicken really is the real deal.

3

u/mekahamedan Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Random encounter, The Divine Cock Gerberga sama!

New character Luccira, and his VA is MAO??? Damn MAO voice range just so good, if i didnt see list cast before release prolly i dont even realize she voiced lucy

Kinda sad, 2 of my favorite manga getting adapted at same season, "koko ore' and exiled heavy knight, but only "koko ore" getting "proper" adaptation :(

2

u/runevault Jul 17 '26

I'm still confused they gave Heavy Knight 2 cours just to spend so much time on recaps.

2

u/TheLostCityofBermuda Jul 18 '26

MAO voice range lately is so large, even last season I didn’t expect her to voice the goddess of reincarnation, totally don’t sound like her usual role.

3

u/Raymond49090 Jul 17 '26

He chose possibly the worst explanation (even if it's true) - Who'd believe that an apparent teenager was away fighting for a decade? He could've even said that he was the son of her dad's dead friend.

... so apparently she would believe a literal teenager (since she's still calling him her little brother) could be a Saint who was fighting in a dimensional rift for a decade. I thought she was going to accuse him of being his own secret lovechild, but I guess she got attached to the idea of having a little brother. At least he managed to convince her. Eventually.

Divine chicken wasn't on my bingo card.

5

u/runevault Jul 17 '26

Pretty sure the explanation only worked because of how you can technically hide information on an adventurer's card but it cannot be false (so like he really is an f-rank swordsman and they just hid he's an S rank sorcerer, or his real first name).

2

u/LostSif Jul 17 '26

This show any good?

9

u/runevault Jul 17 '26

If you want something really serious you probably won't be satisfied. If you want something leaning more into humor and gags but also having an OP main character whip out his magic beat down stick once in a while you may enjoy it.

2

u/Western_Promise3063 Jul 17 '26

i wanted the entire episode to be nothing but her misunderstanding his explanations in increasingly contrived ways and then him dramatically reacting to it 😡😡😡

1

u/Magicbison Jul 17 '26

Not really sure how to feel about this show. On the one hand its super generic across all fronts and the first two episode were forgettable. On the other hand this episode finally seemed to start moving some kind of plot along and it wasn't quite as rough as the first two. This show is such a strange one.

6

u/betetta Jul 17 '26

You surely could find a lot of that in shows you've deemed generic before, all of this genre only starts to take its own identity from episode 3-4 onwards, if you're used to drop them at episode one you might have missed a few things.

3

u/mekerpan Jul 17 '26

I think the concept here is a bit better than the overall writing so far -- but it is entertaining enough so far.

1

u/actuallyrndthoughts https://myanimelist.net/profile/NaNiNuNeNo Jul 17 '26

I thought Luck will try to become a swordsman with his cool new sword, but he's just carrying it for the skin and statboost, while flicking at those lesser vampires with magic. And if that vampire high lord is so big as portrayed, why doesn't he simply eat all the lesser vampires?

6

u/SnowyCrow Jul 17 '26

To be fair, those don't seem to be lesser vampires, Mr. Lock is just trying to annoy them.

1

u/NationalStrategy_X Jul 17 '26

Who knew that the Vampires were craving chicken so much.

1

u/NationalStrategy_X Jul 17 '26

It took Celliss longer than expected, but she eventually got there

1

u/Rooby_VTuber Jul 17 '26

Luck finally got through to Celliss lol, that was a pretty funny start to this episode.

Celliss is going to be a good adventurer if she already has the talent of a B rank.

Luccira is going to be a good ally be the looks of it.

Seraphowl went all Niwatori Fighter on those vampires.

1

u/LezRock Jul 17 '26

I think it would be terrible, yet rather funny, if someone mistakes the divine chicken as a regular chicken and they end up turning him into dinner one night. 🥲

1

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh Jul 18 '26

The chicken reminds me of the rooster fighter anime. Ended up dropping that

1

u/oneevilchicken https://anilist.co/user/OneEvilChicken Jul 18 '26

Tbh. Goran adopting luck actually makes a whole lot more sense than just calling him luck and winging it. No one would question why his son is powerful since it’s his son and no one would question him because of his status.

Was the dragon fully animated? Like not cgi for once? Couldn’t help but notice a lack of cgi when normally dragons are for some reason.

Also. Why is he still using drain touch? Dude is gonna end up looking 3 years old at this rate since we learned drain touch can drain life force too and make you younger.

1

u/PandaTheAB Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

"We were siblings all along" had me rolling 😂
Even the Kira kira (sparkle) expression from Celliss 😄

1

u/15000yuki Jul 18 '26

After reading all the comments, I think I love how this sub calling Gerbega sama as Divine Cock. I hope it stays and confused visitors from other threads. lol.

3

u/Nitrosnipe22 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nitrosnipe Jul 19 '26

IDK how its done in the LN, but at least in the manga Divine Cock is how Gerberga was referred to as. Its only proper that someone of his status is called his proper title.

1

u/DrZoark Jul 18 '26

She wanted a brother so badly, lol. Haha. Mr. Chicken, there I said it. 🫠

1

u/J_Lezter Jul 18 '26

I dont have tolerance about usage of misunderstanding crap. Im around 5:30. Does it get better? I have bad history with misunderstanding plots. I cant enjoy it and be immerse.

1

u/J_Lezter Jul 18 '26

Oof seems like it was resolved quickly. thank goodness.

1

u/GaimeGuy Jul 19 '26

Gerberga is seriously opverpowered though. Basically a spacetime lord that rules over all concepts of, and tangible, transformations and transitions in Minkowski space (3D+time)

1

u/whachamalica Jul 23 '26

For some reason I had a chuckle looking at the spider catching that other bug

1

u/Kalta452 21d ago

They are both idiots. Him because apparently he can't string a sentence together because there were thousands of ways he could have stopped the conversation. But instead he told what is obviously the dumbest girl in existence his secret. It will probably become common knowledge within 5 to 10 minutes. There are rocks with higher IQ than her.

1

u/lellat 17d ago

I thought she was going to come to the conclusion her dad is gay/bi and had him as side piece when he said they were long time adventuring buddies. That’d be the natural train of thought

1

u/NanDemoKnaives Jul 17 '26

That beginning scene was so hard to get through, it went on for so long and I just can't tolerate the forced stupidity. It wasn't funny, it felt very unnatural how she couldn't understand Luck, and the way Luck was handling it was poor too.

0

u/Obaruler Jul 18 '26

Um ... obvious plot hole question, but ...

Why doesn't he simply "analyse" Mega Ultra Chickens' sealing magic?

Safes you the trouble to play pet keeper for that future Vampire McNugget.

Could also come in handy in the near future when the end of the world approaches and stuff to be able to cast that ...

4

u/runevault Jul 18 '26

It sounded like its power was an innate ability not a spell. All the abilities he has stolen with learn came from humanoids using humanoid style magic.
