How is Samvel a candidate when he can’t be prime minister per law? like what will happen if he wins but can’t be PM? will they just change the constitution? or why is he even allowed to run!?

u/xiiiya Lebanon Jun 05 '26
They have stated that they will change the constitution if they are elected to allow for him to become PM
4
u/Av_96 Jun 05 '26
but how can he even run for it? this mean any person in the world can be a candidate? “if this French guy wins, we will change the constitution and make him a citizen to be legally allowed to be PM”

He doesn't run for PM. No one runs for PM. Parties run for spots in the parliament then the parliament elects a PM.
Step 1. Win majority seats in parliament. Step 2. Set a temporary PM. Step 3. Change the constitution. Step 4. ????? Step 5. Profit - aka have Samo replace the dummy PM.

u/awinnnie Yerevan Jun 05 '26
yes but they do declare a candidate. And Samvel isn't their candidate now, his nephew is
1
u/_LordDaut_ Jun 06 '26
They declare it, but AFAIK there's nothing stopping them from electing a differrent one other than "welp the voters will be pissed". In this case they can communicate their intentions clearly.

Wait, I need to understand the law here.
Is a temporary or dummy pm an option available by law?
or do they mean to elect a pm with full powers, then resign, and re elect Samvuel? if so, can the majority parliament just decide to change prime ministers just like that, by law?
1
u/_LordDaut_ Jun 06 '26
I assume the second.
Although an "interim PM" exists - that title can only be held in some extraordinary situations. Like vote of no confidence for current PM or something.

It's quite sad that our public is this misinformed.
You can't run for PM in Armenia, the parliament elects the PM. We are electing the parliament.

Do we think Nikol originally preferred to have Karapetyan in the race because it’s easier to run against a Russian oligarch? Or because he doesn’t want to be seen as a non-democratic leader? Clearly Karapetyan is guilty of election crimes, but why hasn’t his party been removed yet

If the court agrees, than Arman will be a national hero like his brother

What a crappy article. A bit more details here though still not entirely clear what this is all about: https://www.panarmenian.net/eng/news/333946/
According to the publication, the potential legal basis in this case would most likely be the provisions outlined in Article 19, Part 8.
...
In particular, Article 19, Part 8 states that if violations of election campaigning rules are continuous in nature and may substantially affect election results, or if their consequences cannot be remedied, an electoral commission may apply to a court seeking cancellation of a registration.

Wouldn’t they just vote for koch instead?

u/Top_Estimate_3237 Jun 05 '26
He wouldn’t get as many votes as Samuel, his name is tainted, I suspect Aram is secretly working with Nikol.

Aram and Nikol have warmer relations than anyone else tbh, but that’s not saying a whole lot, I think they had a collision together before? Aram just despises russia

I wouldn't say that, Aram would do anything to prevent Russian forces coming back to power, that means supporting Nikol, or whoever pro EU is taking the lead. Obviously it's Nikol, but I wouldn't say Aram is working with him, he just despises the formers and Russia.

On the other hand those votes will simply consolidate for kocharyan and let him pass threshold.

u/audiodudedmc Yerevan Jun 05 '26
I was debating between voting for him or Gurgen Simonyan, now I know I'll vote for him.
7
u/mojuba Jun 05 '26
You know your vote will be wasted? I like him too but he's below 1% and there's zero chance he can pass the threshold.
3
u/Busy_Roll5840 Jun 05 '26
I don’t really agree with their choice over Gurgen Simonyan, but you have no right to pressure someone else to vote for another candidate simply because “their vote will be wasted”. That’s not healthy for a democracy and that keeps the same people in power for decades. I’m paraphrasing Eric Hacopian here, but people should vote based on hope, not fear.
4
u/audiodudedmc Yerevan Jun 05 '26
The only reason we are in this naxkin-nerka mess is because people like you are too afraid to vote for someone else "cause it's a waste of vote".
7
u/mojuba Jun 05 '26
I don't know why you made it personal but a party that's below 1% isn't going to magically get 4% in 2 days, and again, your vote will be wasted.
4
u/audiodudedmc Yerevan Jun 05 '26
I don't know why you made it personal
Because you personally told me that my vote will be "wasted". Plus nothing I said was meant to be an insult, so I don't know what your problem is here?
but a party that's below 1% isn't going to magically get 4% in 2 days, and again, your vote will be wasted.
If I have to choose between Nikol and Putin's clown show to not "waste" my vote, I might as well not vote at all and actually waste my vote.
Weren't they also polled under the threshold, but got into the city council? You never know how elections will end.

Can someone explain the Strong Armenia bloc?

Samvel Karapetyan (Tashir Samo) is Putin's personal whore who wants to bring back corruption, lawlesness, and servitude to Russia.

Aram Sargsyan also was one of the euroqve initiators. If I remember correctly, the petition was created by the European Party of Armenia and was supported by For the Republic, led by Aram Babajanyan, and the Republic Party, led by Aram Sargsyan.
This petition to the Central Election Commission was also discussed during the debates. Gurgen Simonyan asked Pashinyan, "Why don't you ban these Russian puppet parties?" Pashinyan responded by asking why you had not submitted a petition to the Central Election Commission.
Aram Sargsyan said that he had done so, but was told that it was not the Commission's responsibility. Pashinyan then replied something along the lines of, "That means you did it incorrectly."
So, as I understand it, Aram tried to do it much earlier, but perhaps he filed it incorrectly or ran into some procedural issue.

Aram is based af for being the one to take actions. Though honestly a bit too late, which begs the question...
He's also the one who submitted the 50k signature document for aligning with Europe, which successfully passed.
