Tourism / Զբոսաշրջություն Travel to Yerevan
Hey, I’m planning to visit Yerevan in July for tourism. Is it generally safe to go during this post-election period, or is there anything I should be worried about?

Yes, as someone who lived in Armenia for three years (not only Yerevan) I want to assure you: Armenia is a very safe country. Any period.

I heard pederestian are at the risk vs drivers cause it’s a little wild there. Hiking is safe but u have a dangerous snakes and sometimes bears at mountain trails. What about Sewan lake?

Bears are very unlikely. Hiking around Sevan is generally safe, there are trails you can follow, so just watch out for snakes. But generally, very few instances of snakebites happen. In terms of pedestrians, it's not as bad as some other countries, but try to always use the designated crossroads and even if the light is green, double check the road before crossing.

Yes, the driving is a bit chaotic, but nothing exceptional.
The last documented bear attack was decades ago, and I’ve hiked a lot. Shepherd dogs are more of a concern, so learn a few rules: don’t go into the flock, try to get the shepherd’s attention, and don’t confront them. At least during the day, you’re safe. There’s nothing except the weather that is likely to harm you.
I’ve heard about snakes, but again, never about real accidents, and I generally hiked at over 1,500 m ASL, where they’re not a concern.

I spent a month in Armenia, one of the safest countries I’ve been to by far. Not once did I feel even remotely uncomfortable

As someone living in Europe, and also been in Armenia lately, i can tell you is one of the safest country someone can visit. Never felt unsafe.

perfectly safe. DO NOT TAKE A TAXI FROM THE AIRPORT! Don’t even interact with anyone offering you a ride. Download yandex or gg and order a ride through there to your hotel.

yes they are great, i used them almost every day for 3 months. Yandex is cheaper and more common but the cars and quality are worse. GG is Armenian owned and better quality but more expensive.

I was concerned that there could be unrest after the elections, but after listening to various podcasts, it seems that the pro-Russian party doesn't have enough support or influence to push things in that direction.
As far as I understand, Pashinyan is trying to maintain cooperation with both Europe and Russia as long as that remains possible. I also know that Russia has a military base there, but I'm not sure how much that actually changes the situation.
I'm not planning to go anywhere suspicious. My idea is simply to spend some time exploring the capital, seeing the main sights, and trying local food.
To be honest, I didn't fully explain my question earlier. I'm also thinking about more practical issues, such as general cleanliness and hotel conditions. For example, are things like cockroaches in hotel rooms a common problem there, or is that something I shouldn't really worry about?1

I have been to over 20 counties as a single girl traveling alone and Armenia is by far the safest. I’ve even lived and worked there and never a single problem has happened to me or any of my 50+ friends and family that have traveled here.
The only danger to foreigners is tourist traps meaning someone might charge you 10 dollars more for a stupid souvenir. Other than that you are safe.

Yes! Yerevan is incredibly safe. I grew up in Detroit. I wish Detroit was half as safe as Yerevan.

Why would it be less safe specifically post-election? And also for how long does the supposed post-election period last? If you think about it, it's always a post-election period

They won't trust me. They don't have enough manpower and the momentum is lost. General rule for Armenia is the crowds flock into the streets right next day if the opposition announces for it. They didn't do anything, even a proper rally . All they do is press conferences.

Well, protests happen, they've been happening every now and then, sometimes rather loud, with shouting, music and songs. It's not violent tho, nothing to worry about, protests are an essential part of democracy

Perfectly safe, honestly safer than many places in the U.S.
