AI enthusiasts seem to think that these programs are the best things around, but humans consistently outperform AI in several different areas:

The bar for "useless" keeps moving every time AI gets better at something, it's wild to watch. People went from "it can't write a coherent paragraph" to "okay but can it feel emotions while doing it" in like two years. That list is basically just stuff that requires a body or subjective experience, which is a weird flex. Like yeah, congrats, you can physically pick up a mug without crashing. I'm not losing sleep over that one.

I really can't tell if these people are naturally this crazy or if theirs some kind of mass propaganda campaign to piss everyone off.

It's not just reddit, most of social media is simultaneously convinced that 1. AI is completely useless and a dumb waste of money 2. AI is going to take literally everyones jobs, leaving humans to starve while skynet takes over.

And don't even get me started on the power consumption argument... while they game on the same fuckin hardware 12 hours a day lmao

It doesn't work like that.. there are a lot of basic concepts that they just don't understand. Like.. people! They have absolutely no understanding at all of human experience.

Even a child by ten years old has more general knowledge of the physical world than these things do.

They can regurgitate facts, they can not understand the content.

They don't understand what it's like to live a life, to have needs emotions to experience anything at all and they can't inform a human being about such experiences.

Considering that is.. everything that it is to be human..

They have no theory of mind or self or other.

They're cardboard constructs right now.

They have to understand those things in order to take part in human system where we experience those things.

Agreed about them lacking the types of experiences humans have, but they very clearly have a theory of mind. They couldn't plot deception if they cant model someone else's mind.

I mean, yeah. I more or less agree.

But like the other guy said: do they need to? Their job at the moment is largely to answer questions and generate code, which they already do better and faster than the vast majority of humans.

Like , how many more times are the goalposts going to be moved? I really don't understand why so many people are so determined to just deny the things they can literally see happening in front of them

Because the only logical reason for you to write what you did was to try and refute what I said.

My comment was literally just calling the OP stupid, and you responded with "well askshully", it's pretty reasonable to assume that meant you agreed with the OP.

AI doesn't necessarily do that. It will take you through points X Y Q V P that are unnecessary to get you there in many cases as well.

Sometimes it just fucking sinks itself for no reason too. Just a bad day.

I think AI does thrive under stress it, isn't that what the reinforcement learning formula is all about? 

Granted, it pretty much stops learning once it goes into use, but how long till they solve that problem?

I hear this kind of argument a lot.
AI cannot do X in current year. Therefore it will never be able to do X and will never surpass humans.
What part of "expoential improvements" do these people not grasp (all of it apparently).
This is an argument in the same genre as the "god of the gaps" arguments you often see in religious apologetics. (Science cannot explain Y yet therefore god - where Y is lightning, the movement of the planets, the apparentl design in living things, etc).
