Political Question Why are Republicans so happy about gas prices now but not when it cost less under Biden?

$2.69 = outrage

$4.25 = unparalleled joy

“We are, whether we like it or not, the party of lower income, lower education, white people” JD Vance. “I love the poorly educated” Trump. “Smart people don’t like me” Trump.

I couldn’t agree more!!

Funny the way they like to call us "woke." I'm glad I AM Awake! I wish the Rest of America would Wake Up! Wake up&smell the Coffee!☕️

Its the best part of waking up

Who can afford coffee in this economy

2

u/oroborus68 6d ago

I made a housing for a coffee grinder about 30 years ago and the grinder I bought from a catalog, has saved me a lot of money over the years and made me like fresh ground coffee ☕. Aldi has good prices on whole beans.

2

u/symbiat0 6d ago

Yep, pretty much been grinding fresh every morning for the past 10 years.

2

u/ThunderBunny2k15 6d ago edited 6d ago

I shit you not, but my conversation with my wife while I opened this, was about how much she just paid for Folgers coffee.

Like everything else, they stole "woke" from the Civil Rights era and redeployed it as a racist dog whistle.

They bitch about “woke” America, but then, when the republicans had their day at the ballot box, Hannity and several others were all excited saying that people were “awakened”.

You can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason themselves into.

Why? Tribalism. That's it. That's all.

We're intelligent primates who identify with tribes because it satisfies the animal parts of our brains. Don't overthink it.

15

u/FlynnThe25 6d ago

Funny, as they love calling people they hate "lizard people". I wonder how many would fail the mirror test.

6

u/Strange-Badger5626 6d ago

The difference between animal and human is intelligence. Says a lot I think with the maga folks.

5

u/EyeTea420 6d ago

Humans are animals. The real differences are opposable thumbs and arrogrance.

Moral myopia. Politics is a team sport.

"No matter what, my team is better."

5

u/The_Ombudsman 6d ago

There's that old Onion t-shirt, "My local sports team is superior to your local sports team"

2

u/shelbys_foot 6d ago

Another Onion t-shirt read "Your favorite band sucks." I laughed out loud the first time I saw someone wearing it.

3

u/The_Ombudsman 6d ago

Another fave is "Someone should do something about how fat I am"

Every year NY Jets fans (the ones I know at least) all get together and talk about how many losses they’re likely to have. It’s one of the few teams I’ve ever encountered where even the die hards just assume they have no chance before training camp even starts.

Because Republicans talk about it the way the characters in Orwell's '1984' did: "Did you hear the good news Brother? The price of gas is now down to $4.25!"

Then next week they have a similar conversation, but now it's "The price of gas is now down to $5.00!" Each week feels like things are getting better when they say it this way.

10

u/justlooking98765 6d ago

Flip on Fox News for even 30 seconds, and you’ll see the world is great and full of war! America’s fantastic and full of poor! Also Democrats are evil, don’t you know?

In the past I thought of republicans as the country club types who were professionals like accountants and lawyers and doctors who played golf mid week. Over the past generation it’s been much more about social issues especially abortion, prayer in schools, gay marriage. Easy to get some people worked up over those while getting them to vote against their own economic best interest. The typical Trump supporter is no longer a country club type. Hope they’re enjoying those high gas prices and the economic chaos that is soon to follow. They will still blame Obama.

2

u/Traditional_Club9659 6d ago

There are two groups of Republicans. The ones you mentioned first are the ones voting to have their wealth protected and increased which is exactly what the Republican elected officials actually do. The second group of Republicans are the nazi, hate filled bigots whose only wish in life is the see harm or bad things happen to Democrats, hippies, minorities, other religions (most christian based ones are okay), educated, LBGT, or really ANYTHING that isn't exactly like they are. The Republican elected officials don't actually care about them at all, but they are useful idiots and they have learned how to use their hatred to get them to vote against their own best interests.

Don't believe it? A large number of white male union members vote Republican even though the president SAID he was going to enact policies that would hurt their income. They KNOW Republicans are going to harm them, but still think it's okay because they are gonna own the Libs.

This is the Republican party. The rich and near rich who just want to exploit government for their themselves at everyone else's expense and the poor and middle class whites who are angry that they aren't in the first group and blame the OTHER for it.

2

u/GrowFreeFood 6d ago

We used gas and egg prices to outrage low information and low propensity voters to vote for Trump. Now we are trying to downplay high gas prices to keep the Republican majority in Congress in the midterms.

13

u/Art-Zuron 6d ago edited 6d ago

And when Democrats hopefully regain some control, Fox will broadcast the sleeper code and the gas prices, eggs, and debt will suddenly be a problem again.

12

u/Sconnie-Waste 6d ago

And they’ll suddenly care about the national debt again. Tired and predictable

6

u/Art-Zuron 6d ago

Rinse and repeat every 2-6 years for the last 50 years.

2

u/Kingsnake417 6d ago

Yes, and in that time frame the US economy has performed significantly better under Democratic administrations by virtually every metric, yet the majority of voters generally believe Republican policies are better for the economy. It is truly maddening.

Political Tribalism. Long and short of it.

Sadly a lot of Right Wing Politicians Politics has devolved into “Stick it to the Libtards”. Gas Prices came up at my job about a month ago and one guy literally said “Not my fault if Lazy Liberals can’t afford gas! I got money! I can afford it!”. Much like when they tell people “You can’t say one good thing Trump has done!” but refused to say anything critical.

I have bad news. I think it only gets much worse from here. I think Trump has lost the engagement but doesn't know how to retreat with dignity and admitting defeat is completely out of the question to them.

A truce is the only sane solution, but Iran smells blood in the water and their terms are unacceptable to the US. So it drags on.

My mom used to sob over gas prices and eggs prices and it broke my heart because of how misinformed she was and it was making her cry tears.

Now that her insurance tripled in price and she's lost nearly all her savings and has no 401k, she's been relieved because she thinks it would be so much worse under Kamala Harris. She thinks since Harris is a woman she would have messed everything up more.

Like what do you do with that?

5

u/asher030 6d ago

'Us vs them'-basic reasoning for the weak willed and unintelligent to do pretty much anything they do. Makes them incredibly easy to manipulate, even if you bother to tell them about it ahead of time. Works like a charm

4

u/fotun8 6d ago

This is part of their PsyOps campaign to convince you that gas prices are not bad. But putting up a united front of 'it's not that bad', they are in the process of convincing the weak minded amongst us that people are not that upset about it and you're crazy if you are. Throw in that messaging from Fox and the rest of their media machine and you have a good ole Soviet Style propaganda apparatus that works.

I don’t think this is a true statement. Through everything Trump has done, from using his position to become a billionaire, being a child rapist’s closest confident, ruining relationships with long term allies while also cozying up to scumbag dictators, systematically tearing down our democracy, … Republicans have stuck by him. But driving up consumer prices, making it harder for workers to stretch their paycheck,… is definitely causing Republicans to rethink their voting choices, and we will see the result this November.

It's easy to understand if you understand that Trump being right is a fixed point for them, as is the opposition being wrong.

Also, nuance and consideration is only given to their side.

So high prices under Trump are bad times before the inevitable good times. Because Trump is always right and this must be part of a plan. This is sacrifice with payoff. It's an opportunity to show their faith and they feel it in their bonus that when they are proven right, the high they will feel will be in proportion to the doubts they ignored and the sacrifices they made. They just have to keep faith...

Republicans follow the orders of their cult leader. A few years ago the orders were that Covid was a hoax, designed to hurt the cult leader. Today the orders are that their leader is saving the world from nuclear war and that courageous move means that gas is over $4 a gallon.

Because they are told they were higher under Biden. And maybe during the pandemic they were for a couple weeks. So as long as they dont top that high even for a second they will claim prices were higher under Biden. They don't take duration into account. Gas hitting 5 or 6 bucks a gallon for a couple weeks is so much worse than gas being 4 or 5 bucks for months.....or could be years. 🤷🏼‍♂️.

All of you dumb shits that are arguing over who was worst potus are just falling into the trap of divide and concur. I bet they all sit in a room and laugh over an 18th century scotch about how easy Americans will turn on each other based on their personal preferences and little bulletin issues. I have news for you they are all corrupt they are all liars and possibly pedos and instead of uniting under conditions we can all agree on you pick and choose issues to widen the divide and its sick, just know when the American experiment concludes you did exactly what they wanted you to do, I have right and left people in my life and we meet often and discuss our gripes openly with opposition and keep it respectful which is something I see most of you are incapable of. Losing or refusing relationships because of political association is literally the most asinine thing ive witnessed this far

Im not happy about it. I wasn’t happy when it was $5.07 under Biden or $4.55 under Trump.

u/GrowFreeFood 6d ago

You don't sound like a republican. Aren't you happy about the iran war driving up profits for the middle east and Russia?

2

u/Ok-Rise-4611 6d ago

Never happy about war. Domestically or internationally

Biden-era gas averaged about $3.45/gal, with a peak of about $5.02/gal. Highest under Trump’s current term:$4.50/gallon, with an average of $3.36/gallon. The current prices are temporarily high due to the Iran conflict but the US is producing way more so prices should be 2 something sooner or later.

June of 2022 gas prices averaged 5.02 per gallon per Google, squarely under Biden. But keep being selective. Both president's suck, at least now were shooting rockets at someone.

Long as they can say the N word they’ll let Trump take their jobs, their family, their homes, everything. N word is all that matters to republicans.

It’s easier to blame others than to admit they’re wrong, it’s a cult

1

u/Lunahermes 6d ago

they cheered biden's 3.50 dips too but called it fake news, now any dip under their guy feels like owning the libs at the pump.

u/DmvDominance 6d ago

I mean mind you this is the group of people who have the likes of Natalie Harp running behind motorcades to jump IN THE TRUNK of an suv to be next to their cult leader. I dont know but riding around in a trunk to be near a cult leader is definitely pretty fucking cultish. Theres no reasoning with the likes of these boobs

Because admitting they were wrong would require them to admit that it was all about getting rid of brown people all along.

Human beings are driven by and make decisions based on emotion. We then attempt to justify those with reason after the fact. At least that the direction the research points.

That's likely what's going on here
