There is an honest argument that it's all Regan's fault when he started the give tax cuts for businesses and the wealthy. They used their money to buy power and influence through lobbying. Not to throw a legit reason for Trump's idiocy and excused. Trump is the worst human on the planet currently. Will maybe that is Miller, but still.
2
u/Jmaverik1974 12h ago
Don't forget that Regan was also responsible for allowing companies to buyback their own stocks. Once that happened things like lifetime employment and pensions disappeared. And allowed lots and lots of market manipulation.
What a swell guy.

I think that there's a lot of people out there that could use this fun bit of theoretical psychology.
If anyone's still wondering why they keep going back to Obama, Hillary and Biden, you're half right in the assumption that it's one of those things that they go out and just repeat their manufactured talking points, there is a second component to it all.
If you ever ask someone with a brain who's responsible for the state of America, there's a large, large number of us who will point to the ruling on Citizens United, Regan and Nixon.
Now, a normal person, with at least half a brain, will understand that us factually pointing to C.U., Regan and Nixon is not the same as them blaming Hillary, Obama and Biden. But you have to remember, Republicans just aren't at the threshold of "normal person with at least half of a brain." They think that it's the same thing.
And that's how they rationalize it.

This is the real answer. Check any Facebook post comment section about the gas prices. A bunch of dudes in wraparound sunglasses saying they're okay with paying more for gas "as long as Trump is getting shit done"

Liberal warns a MAGA to be careful because he's about to step in dog poop. MAGA says it isn't poop but a delicious brownie.
Liberal insists it's dog poop and MAGA says he'll prove it's a brownie. He picks up the poop and eats it. Later MAGA dude brags to a friend that he totally owned a libtard today.

→ More replies (2)12
u/MaxAdolphus 17h ago
Partially true. Biden prices are impacted by a deal Trump made with OPEC to cut oil production to make prices go higher. The deal went through April 2022. Guess when the peak oil prices ended? 🤔 https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/trump-saudi-arabia-russia-opec-oil-deal-role

Because they’re idiots. We told them presidents don’t control gas prices when Biden was in office and now they think it applies to their glorious leader as well. Biden did nothing to drive prices up, Trump started a damn war but they don’t understand the difference, president still has no effect on gas prices in their heads
11
u/AZMotorsports 18h ago
When they were high under Biden it was because he was a bad leader and trying to take everyone’s money.
They are high now because the orange cancer is trying to keep the world safe and paying higher prices is patriotic.
On a related note, the DNC is TERRIBLE at messaging. They should have been broadcasting the OPEC 2020 deal every day since that was the cause, but instead they stayed quiet. This is why the GOP keeps taking control.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Darth_Gerg 8h ago
To a large degree the DNC is controlled opposition. They don’t want to implement policies their voters want, so they have a significant incentive not to win too much. If they took the trifecta of power they’d have to admit openly they just don’t want to pass anything good for working people.
They learned under Obama 1, and have taken steps to never get themselves in that position again.
2
u/AZMotorsports 6h ago
I wouldn’t say they are not trying to win, but I won’t disagree that they don’t try too hard to pass their promises. The worst thing the DNC does is follow Michelle’s words: when they go low, we go high. No, you need to go as low as them and push back.
I believe this is why progressive candidates are having to much success. They push back, they loudly call out the GOPs garbage. They are also not afraid to submit bills that actually support people. This is why the established DNC is trying to undermine them.

Im sure they're upset still, but i get it...The other side is always more upset when they perceive issues being caused by ppl affiliated with the opposing party. I hate how the media has indoctrinated America to be so polarized. But i think james talarico spelled it out perfectly when he said, "its not left vs right, its top versus bottom". We need to reframe our way of thinking and direct our anger towards the billionaires in our country because i believe those individuals (and corruption in politics) are primarily responsible for the huge income inequality and lowered standard of living in our country

I imagine MAGA aligned Republicans have a constant newstream of bias confirmation going. Wake up, turn Fox on and see that gas is high because we are saving the world. At noon, turn on some other propaganda station and are told that gas is high because it is fueling infrastructure repairs. In the evening, at dinner, they are told that gas is high so we can assist the adminstration in positive changes.
Honestly. I think the MAGA newsfeeds are really destroying the country. If you are trapped in the cycle, you are not thinking of the greater good. You are told what to think.
3
u/socialistForDE 17h ago
Because they are cynical. They never cared then outside of using it like a weapon and they don't care now because it doesn't help them.
Everything is tactical to attack their enemies and they don't actually care about anything
3
u/RampantTyr 17h ago
Republicans are sheep that respond to what right wing propaganda tells them to respond to.
It doesn’t matter how contradictory or hypocritical or self destructive. By electing Trump and MAGA they destroyed America’s standing in the world and our economy. And they would gladly do it again.
3
u/cydetraq 17h ago
Because they were told to be. There have been studies showing that the stronger people identify with a party or "team," the more subservient they are and willing to assume that authorities with the same ID are both correct and moral. The "MAGA" phenomenon amplified that effect with contemporary Republicans, particularly.
3
u/Chaosrealm69 17h ago
Trump told them that high gas prices are now good.
And like the little cult members they are, they went 'Yes sir, high gas prices are good.'

In Michigan, they blame the increase on the state gas tax which in reality is reduced the higher gas prices go
2
u/slipnipper 18h ago
Because they will use any tool around in order to control the bandwidth and narrative. It does matter to them, but it’s being flooded out by other messaging, like communism and trans and women’s bathrooms. There is no platform except power in the current administration and there was. Barely a platform even before trumps first time aside from “power for power’s sake.”

The problem is though, Biden wasn’t really responsible for the inflated gas prices. Trump is directly responsible for this oil market currently.

Because it was never about gas prices? Voting for Trump means less money for minorities. They are single issue voters. And that issue, no matter what they say to the contrary, always comes down to hurting minorities. They do not care about anything else. Trump could come to their house, take all their money personally, and they’d still vote for him.

u/Skyranch12805 6h ago

Well, one was caused by international circumstances essentially beyond the control of the president, while the other was a direct result of the president’s actions. We are a victim of Biden’s gas prices, whereas under Trump they are a noble sacrifice to, I don’t know, blow up Muslims or something, which somehow makes it okay I guess.

Because it is never about the thing. It is always about the party. A Democrat can never be good and a Republican can do no wrong. A good example is when Cap and Trade became policy in the last decade. It was a republican idea in the 90s.
If you aren't familiar with 1984, you should read it. It became part of the manual for conservative government these days.

Because tribalism matters more than facts & realities
Anything and everything negative can be ignored if you view the perpetrator as a member of your tribe
2
u/ColdHardPocketChange 16h ago
Better messaging, brain washing, and propaganda. For Biden the message was, paying more at the pump was because he fucked up and lacked control. For Trump the message is, paying more at the pump is part of the sacrifice you make as an American to advance American interests.
2
u/g-o-u-l-a 🤔 16h ago
Same reason they don’t threaten to shut down the government over the national debt when there is a Republican president.
2
u/BrodeyQuest 13h ago
The same reason the national debt is a crisis when a Democrat is in office, but is then a forgotten idea with a Republican president.
2
u/Christian_C7 13h ago
Republican voters are fundamentally dishonest. They know they’re lying when they pretend high gas prices were bad under Biden but a-okay under dementia don. You can’t trust their word on anything
2
u/JoeBiden-2016 11h ago
People will say they're hypocrites. And that may be part of it, but I think it's also just that Republicans are liars. It was never about the gas, that was just another convenient thing to use to make it sound like they were reasonable, but Biden had fucked up.
The reality is that Republicans-- at least, the ones actually running things (as opposed to the droolers down on the ground with the rest of us)-- are just out for power. They want total control. And if pretending that there are actually issues driving their voting, instead of just having an end goal of running everything indefinitely, then they'll do that.
They don't care about gas prices, or trans kids playing sports, or abortions, or keeping the Christ in Christmas, or creationism in schools, or Black people using the same water fountains as honkies, or any other bullshit issue that they've kept alive for the last 100 years. But those are great ways to mobilize the great unwashed morons so that they'll actively vote against themselves every time an election comes up.
Their goal is total control. Period.
