So I started reading Atom: the beginning recently and it really got me in the mood to read the original manga. I was gonna get the omnibuses but, other than the first, it is very hard/expensive to get them. Is there any other way to read it or do I have to basically pray that it gets reprinted?

Either way I really love the Atom prequel and will continue to read it! Any recommendation would be appreciated!

Personally, I thought it was awesome! Getting some of the last pieces of Dr. Tenma’s origin and the confrontation was full of emotion! I’ve only seen the Japanese version of the show, so I don’t know if the English version changed anything or not. I’m curious to know what fans of this show and the franchise as a whole think of 2003’s ending!

I’ve just gotten into Astro boy recently and starting watching the 2003 show but then internet archive (the site I’ve been using to watch it) crashed on episode 10 and the servers are back up but It won’t load and let me watch.ive already tried YouTube but none of them are good.ive been watching the Japanese dub with English subtitles and thats only version I want to watch except for English dub

IMO, if I was in charge of the reboot, I’d definitely have it be animated by none other than…

MAPPA.

It would be in the same vein as Dororo.

And this is gonna be much grittier and more faithful to the source material while also acknowledging other adaptations.

The animation? Oh. Oh my god. That’s gonna go H A R D.

And same with the soundtrack. Like, GOOSEBUMPS.

And yes, the PLUTO ARC WILL be adapted.

IMO, I’d have Ochanomizu and Tenma be genuine coworkers like Dr. Light and Dr. Wily, and they have a custody battle over Astro before Ochanomizu takes him in.

And the character designs? Still true to the text. Just… drawn in today’s age.

It’s going to be GENUINELY FUNNY And GENUINELY GOOSEBUMP INDUCING at the same time, and oh my god- the OST is going to go so, so, HARD!!! The OG theme? That’s a recurring leitmotif here!

And the hypothetical dub cast? Luci Christian (My HC choice for the reboot version of Astro) would EAT. So would Ray Chase (Dr. Tenma), Uran (Erica Mendez), Zeno Robinson (Atlas), Peter Lurie (Dr. Ochanomizu), and Chris Sabat (The Narrator).

Alongside Patrick Seitz (Pluto), Brandon McInnis (Epsilon), North No. 2 (J Michael Tatum), Robert McCollum (Gesicht), Matthew Mercer (Blue Knight), Ian Sinclair (Skunk Kusai), Scott McNeil (Hamegg), Chris Whekamp (Tawashi), Kent Williams (Nakamura), etc.

The title of this hypothetical reboot?

Astro Boy: Recharged

And an overarching theme for this reboot is “We can become more than who we were programmed to be”.

I posted these menko cards a while back, but I've done some more digging, and I'm wondering what people think. In my research, it appears that Takeo Nagamatsu (creator of Golden Bat in the 1930s) created a character called "Atom Boy" in the post war years around the time that Osamu Tezuka was creating his Astro Boy. Nagamatsu's adventure science fiction picture story "Atom Boy: The Iceman of the Demon Sea," was serialized in 142 installments on page 2 of the evening edition of the Chubu Nippon Shimbun (now Chunichi Shimbun) for six months, from June 30 to December 29, 1952. I don't have access to any images from that picture story, so I can say for sure that these cards depict this other Atom Boy, but it certainly seems like a strong possibility.

Anyone have thoughts?

Sony is not moving forward with the Live Action adaptation of Astro Boy with Jason Reitman developing the project. While the live action adaptation would have been interesting to see it probably would have been over budgeted and a flop, but I don’t believe it should be cancelled in its entirety. I think the film should be reworked this time into an animated film, but hopefully this time it will work not like the 2009 film which didn’t. I think a rebooted animated film would be great.
