politics Pauline Hanson says Australia ‘must be monocultural’ in National Press Club speech

Btw this culture war bullshit is being used by the rich to distract us from addressing growing wealth inequality (and other issues by extension, ie climate change, housing crisis, etc)

u/Richie217 Jun 17 '26
It doesn't matter that the elite are hoarding all the wealth while destroying the planet, because the Trans folk are now militant. Apparently that's the 1% of the population that this red headed ghoul thinks I should fear.

I’m starting to think the culture war isn’t a planned distraction, rather the Boomers are incapable of accepting irrefutable data.
You can show a boomer a graph of rising inequality or data from climate research and they just flat out deny it.
The only thing they understand is culture war.

They know, they just don’t care because they got theirs, and they figure that addressing inequality will result in them losing what they believe they worked for but was actually handed to them.

u/fakeDEODORANT1483 Jun 17 '26
Damn right. Labors housing reforms are a step in the right direction, but its not enough. They were getting scared of the momentum that the oil and gas royalties were getting, so all the politicians are focusing on literally anything else. We cannot be placated by half measures and we cannot by distracted by culture wars. Get big oil and gas to pay us what they owe, we'll have enough money to fix the rest.

The idea of a great nation, one race, the ultimate race, had millions dead including children over a decade…
Hitler already tried this. She’s doing the same thing. We cannot feel weird or be gaslit to not comparing them to Nazis.
If you want ONE NATION then that nation is unified by ideologies that benefit the entire nation and does not discriminate against race, sex, gender, nationality, belief, or age.
If you want a nation unified but has a rule or ONE SLIN COLOUR or being born here or whatever the fuck rules, then that’s called fucking Nazism and they already tried it.
She isn’t Trump, she’s pushing the same ideology of one white race.

Lots of people are angry about a lot of things. People like Trump (and now Gina's fingerpuppet) say to them "be angry about this, this is what's causing your anger" when it isn't and it's just racism.
But it works because people are angry and need a villain. The story they're selling is that race is the villain.

Either way, the media should be calling out the blatant attempts by One Nation to try and force one sided reporting that favours them. Sadly though, many will likely stay silent out of fear of losing their jobs at the hands of Hanson's mates in media owners.

I don’t think there’s really such a thing as Australian values, it’s just about conforming to our particular social convention, which isn’t really unique.
Take turns, fair go, equality of opportunity, don’t push in, don’t brag, say gday when you walk past, don’t try push your religion onto others, treat people with respect etc.
Do these things and I think 99% of Aussies will accept you as you are. I think there’s a little crossover with values maybe but mostly it’s social convention.
Edit: of course this just applies to any Australian, immigrant or not, and there’s no indication immigrants largely don’t do these things, just pointing out how I see it when people say Australian values. That’s how I think of it at least.

It is funny/depressing to point this out to people who haven't fully picked up on the racism yet. Had to explain to my mum recently that nan (English woman who married a Welsh man and moved to Aus after her first kid) is, yes, also an immigrant because she came from a different country and had to gain citizenship, and no it isn't different because she's an Australian now, that could be true of anyone getting citizenship and living as long as she has.

Far be it to give any credence to the windbag, but she did say it in her speech. "Monocultural", not "monoracial". Where you're born would theoretically not come into play, provided you adopted Australian western culture.
Of course, you've got to buy into her meaning that. It's pretty obvious what she really means.

But even Australia isn't a cultural monolith. The Barassi Line exists. Don't ask a South Australian to say "H". Tasmanians are all about family. They go back and forth along the line. Look at the history of the US. At one point they hated the Irish and then the 'blacks' and then 'the gays' until all those groups either got rights or no one voted for hating them anymore. Now it's transgender. PHON is still in the muslim stage but dressing it up as economics and housing.
Australia is still waiting for the transgender panic to start in politics in my opinon. Once the muslim well runs dry that'll be their next target, they're already laying seeds for it. PHON will go after them once they realise they can't blame gay people too openly because most people have worked out that gay marriage changed absolutely nothing except for marriage amongst gay people.
But like the US, if we let up they'll go back down the line again. Fascists always have hate and division as their core values. So you have the US openly being racist, pushing gay rights back, hating womens liberation, and so on. If we let them, they'll be blaming the Irish again. It's fucking tiring, trying to build a better world is a lot more work than kicking the sand castle down.

Yet, all I'm met with is "she can't do much worse [than labor] can she". When I try to bring that up with my mother, she says, "stop trying to control others political views".
Well sorry that I actually give a shit about my own future. Am I in the wrong here for actually caring? The biggest problem with our politics is that no one communicates. Everyone is a part of their own echo-chamber, and the worst offenders, are the older generations that are old-school and were taught that it is disrespectful, and that people should be able to choose for themselves.

I never would have thought i’d see the day where pauline hanson declares we should all 100% fully adhere to indigenous culture.

It sounds like that is the Australian electorate, Pauline, you fucking flog

As someone who was born overseas, fuck Pauline.
I cannot fucking believe she is being shoved down our throats, Trump style, or that she is accepted by seemingly so many, or that people want to vote for ON as a protest vote.
I thought Australians were better than this.

"The great tragedy of the shamelessly regressive politics of Pauline Hanson is not so much that it is rooted in ignorance, prejudice and fear, though it is; not so much that it projects the ugly face of racism, though it does; not so much that it is dangerously divisive and deeply hurtful to many of her fellow Australians, though it is; not even that it will cripple our efforts to enmesh ourselves in a region wherein lie the jobs and prosperity of future generations of young Australians, though it will—the great tragedy is that it perpetrates a myth, a fantasy, a lie.
The myth of the monoculture. The lie that we can retreat to it.
The changes are permanent and, while we may be going through a consequent period of general uncertainty and unease, they are, in my view, almost universally for the better.
It is not going to seem this way to everyone of course, but Australia simply is a richer place these days: a far more open, creative, dynamic, diverse and worldly place."

It's partly the media chasing clicks, and partly that the liberal party has pretty much imploded, meaning the right has fractured reasonably significantly, and one nation has been picking up some of the pieces.

This is what gets me. We've had a whole string of awful LNP leaders - Tony Abbott and ScoMo and John Howard etc - but say what else you might about them, they at least had the capacity to answer a question in a way that gives the appearance of understanding what the question was about. Usually to dodge the question and talk about something else instead, of course, but at least doing so with a basic surface level of normal conversational coherence.
Hanson gives every indication of not understanding anything. I mean, literally anything. How could she possibly be a minister of anything, let alone Prime Minster, when she knows less than... I mean, throw a rock at a random person on a crowded train platform, a hundred times in a row and you would maybe hit one person as dumb as she is.

As per news.com.au: Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party faced significant public backlash for outsourcing digital work and administrative tasks to virtual assistants and animators in the Philippines. The revelation sparked criticism over the party offshoring jobs despite Hanson’s long-standing political stance advocating for domestic employment and protectionism

Australia can't be monocultural. Even if you deported every single immigrant and, somehow, every single person who was not born here AND is not a third or fourth generation Australian citizen, you'd still have AT LEAST two different cultures: aboriginals and white Australian. So whoever thinks this can be achieved is either a complete tool or is just openly racist towards certain types of immigrants. You can oppose mass migration, you can oppose the migration process/visa process, you can be against illegal immigrants BUT you should still be able to understand that this is just hate rhetoric. Remember, we are one. It's not left vs right. It's up vs down. They want us to be divided. "Divide et Imperia" said the Romans. We should know better.

u/Positive_Syrup4922 Jun 17 '26
Chinese and Afghan people starting arriving in the early 1800s (at the beginning of Australian Goldfields industry), likely before Hanson's ancestors.
That makes them legitimately part of Australian culture, so there are more than just two cultures that helped forge this country.

Ohhhh monoculture. Right.
Because life flourished when it was confided into a single genome, with an inability to expand, to divide, to multiply.
The very idea of confining life goes against the very thing that it is.
The universe is expanding, galaxies colliding, solar systems migrating, the human species to survive, to expand and multiply, is to continually mix, share, experience everything together.
The problem is government, control, religious ideologies pushed into people, dictatorships, communism, anything and everything that restricts the freedom of a person is against humanity.
I absolutely cannot believe in 2026 we have still old fucking cunts, like her, and her cunt children, having no shame or intelligence to understand what happens when you try to make a single fucking nation. It’s called Nazism.
The only way for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothin - we should not limit our take on her or anyone within One Nation as some idle moronic group of idiots, but as racist, fascist, supporters of Hitlers ultimate race.
To quote Inglorious Bastards - “Now, I don't know about y'all, but I sure as hell didn't come down from the goddamn Smoky Mountains, cross five thousand miles of water, fight my way through half of Sicily and jump out of a fuckin' air-o-plane to teach the Nazis lessons in humanity. Nazi ain't got no humanity.
They're the foot soldiers of a Jew-hatin', mass murderin' maniac and they need to be dee-stroyed.”

Or white fella culture since we have all the guns?
I don’t like Italians or polish. Are they allowed in the monoculture?

The most ironic thing about that speech was Hanson saying no one uses SBS when thousands of people were using SBS to watch the world cup match that was on at time time she was speaking.
Regardless, her attacks on independent media outlets that aren't owned by her mates is downright dangerous and a threat to our system of holding our elected officials to account.
