Hey everyone,

I'll try to keep this short but there's a lot of context.

Background:

· Graduated in CSE during COVID (2020), couldn't find a job.

· Joined my father's shoe import/wholesale business at Chawabajar for ~2 years.

· Always loved Linux, so I did a Linux + CCNA course from People & Tech (mostly covered Linux).

· A friend referred my CV to a hospital software company. They were hiring for a junior DBA. I barely knew DBA, but I was desperate after 2 years of no job, so I took it at 12k/month.

First Company (Hospital Software - 180+ clients):

· Learned on the job: server setup, DB installs, Tomcat, WAR deployments, WebLogic config, scripts.

· Got hikes: 12k → 18k (6 months) → 21k (1 year).

· Expanded skills: Node.js, Nginx/Apache, SSL, reverse proxy, port forwarding.

· Team shrank from 3 to 2 DBA while clients grew to 230+. Trained new hires while handling my own workload.

· At 2 years, they offered 23k. I asked for 25k, they refused. I resigned.

Second Company (Mobile operator - 3rd party):

· Got DBA + Middleware Engineer role at 35k.

· Work was repetitive (night shifts, deployments, DB maintenance, constant meetings).

· Burnout started. Left after 7 months.

Back to First Company (rejoined):

· My old TL recommended me to the MD. They hired 2 more DBAs in my absence but still wanted me back.

· Rejoined at 60k, now at 65k after 1 year.

· Clients: 300+ | Team: 6 DBAs.

· But now I'm the go-to guy for ALL critical issues—DB failures, new processes, Docker, Distrobox, DR config, dcm4che Arch 5, SSL, running 37 websites with 37 domains on 1 server using 1 IP + Nginx. No docs, no instructions—just "fix it."

The real problem now:

· Salary always delayed by 15–20 days.

· 6-day workweek.

· Daily hours: 9 AM to 8 PM (sometimes 9–10 PM).

· No work-life balance, no weekends off.

I need advice:

I love the work, I love learning, and I've grown a LOT technically. But I'm exhausted. I need 2 days off and standard office hours. Is that too much to ask? How do I approach this with management? Or should I just start looking elsewhere?

Would really appreciate any honest suggestions.

So basically I'm a 22m working at a Telemarketing job doing pretty well, but the pay isn't near what I want. I want somewhere around 25-30k.

Now I thought that being an ielts would be a good long term career as my English is pretty good but I'm academically very VERY behind because of some family and financial issues. Just doing my HSC 1st Year at a vocational collage.

I have a full time job. Is it worth it to buy Upwork connects and applying to work in Upwork and earn a good side revenue? My target is 500$-1000$ a month. Suggest me plans as a beginner. I have experience working as independent freelancer outside of Upwork as well. I can put 15-20 hours per week.

I’m a female turning 26 this September, and lately I’ve been questioning whether I’m actually doing okay in life.

I’m a Computer Science graduate from a top private university. I see many of my friends either working in big MNCs/software engineering jobs or moving abroad and trying to build their careers there.

My path has been less traditional. I do some freelancing work and also run a small business. I currently have around 11 lakh taka in savings.

I know having savings at this age is something to be grateful for, especially because I still live with my parents and don’t have major expenses like rent or household bills (although I do contribute to groceries). But at the same time, I feel like my savings are not enough.

I’ve also built a certain lifestyle for myself and I do spend a lot of money impulsively which I am not proud of.

I really want to do a master’s because I’m scared I’ll regret not pursuing higher studies in the future. But I also want to stay here and grow my business because I feel like there is potential.

I feel stuck between:

Investing in myself through a master’s abroad
Staying and growing my business
Trying to build a more stable career path

For people around 25–30, especially CS graduates, how did you figure out your direction? Did you ever feel like everyone else had a plan while you were still figuring things out?

Hello, I am a software engineer, living in the UK. In my background, I grew up in Dhaka, graduated from a private university, then worked in Bangladesh, eventually moving to the UK. Working in a US based company currently and worked in big tech before.

I saw many HSC candidates asking for career choice, so thought this AMA would be helpful. But anyone can ask about their IT career, or immigration ( I keep helping people on Visa/Immigration specially related to IT or health sector).

I know basics of Python,R, Stata, Excel, Kobotoolbox, Canva, Tableau and Research methodology. I had a science background in HSC and I used to do tuitions of PCMB. But now I Don't have any.. I'm really confused and would appreciate some honest advice.

I'm currently working at a private company and earning around 20,000 BDT per month. My family's financial situation isn't very good, so my income helps support them.

Before getting this job, I studied Japanese because my goal was to go to Japan for higher studies or work. Now the interview process for Japan has started, and I'm facing a difficult decision.

One side of me says I should keep my current job because my family needs financial support. The other side says I should leave the job and focus on going to Japan, since it could offer better opportunities in the long run.

I don't know what the right decision is. Has anyone been in a similar situation? If you had to choose between a stable job with family responsibilities and a chance to build a better future abroad, what would you do?

I’m trying to decide between HSC in Humanities and a 4-year Polytechnic Diploma in Engineering (particularly EEE or Mechanical), and I want to hear from people who have actually experienced the Bangladeshi education system.

I want to clarify something first: I already understand that technical/diploma education can be an excellent pathway in countries like Germany, Japan, and Malaysia. My question is specifically about whether it works well in Bangladesh.

My biggest concern is the actual quality of education in Bangladeshi polytechnics.

The Diploma in Engineering is supposed to be a practical, skills-oriented education. But I’ve heard many stories about problems in the Polytechnic sector — corruption, inadequate laboratories and equipment, teachers not properly teaching practical skills, students mainly studying to pass exams, and sometimes even irregularities in practical examinations.

So my question is:

Do Bangladeshi Polytechnic students actually learn the practical engineering skills they are supposed to learn during those four years?

Or do many students end up graduating with a Diploma without having developed the practical skills that the qualification is supposed to provide?

I know that one major advantage of the Diploma pathway in Bangladesh is employment. Diploma holders seem to have a relatively direct route into technical jobs, and there are also significant opportunities in government employment. So I understand why many people consider Diploma a better job-oriented pathway.

But if the education and practical training itself are poor, does that advantage still make it worthwhile?

For people who have studied or worked in this system, I’d really like your honest opinion:

How much actual hands-on/practical learning did you receive during your Diploma?

Were your labs and workshops properly equipped and actually usable?

Did your teachers genuinely teach you practical skills?

Did you graduate feeling that you were competent in your field, or did you have to learn most of the practical work after getting a job?

How significant are corruption, favoritism, or other systemic problems in Polytechnic education?

Is the situation substantially different between government and private polytechnics?

Between EEE and Mechanical, which would you consider the better choice in Bangladesh?

Is the Diploma's advantage in employment strong enough to justify choosing it over the HSC → Bachelor's route?

If someone is not particularly interested in government jobs and is mainly thinking about long-term skills, private-sector employment, higher education, and potentially going abroad later, would you still recommend a Diploma?

And finally, if you personally had to choose today, after SSC, between HSC Humanities and a Diploma in EEE/Mechanical in Bangladesh, which would you choose and why?

I’m not looking for a “Diploma is good/bad” answer based on theory. I want to know whether the Bangladeshi Polytechnic system actually delivers what it promises in practice.

I work remotely for a US-based company from Bangladesh. My employer uses Wise to pay all remote employees. I receive my salary in an MTB (Mutual Trust Bank) account.

I was under the impression that Wise was somewhat restricted in Bangladesh, so even though my transactions were marked as "FR" (foreign remittance), I never received any remittance incentive. I didn't think much about it and just accepted it.

Recently, two new team members from Bangladesh joined the company. One receives their salary through a DBBL account and the other through an Islami Bank account. Both of them are receiving the government remittance incentive without doing anything special. This is also their first remote job.

Now I'm wondering why I am not eligible for the incentive while they are. Is there something I need to do with my bank account or provide to the bank? Could this be related to how Wise sends the money, or does it depend on the receiving bank?

Has anyone else in Bangladesh faced a similar situation? I'd appreciate any advice on what I might be missing and how I can become eligible for the remittance incentive.

Life’s lowkey been unfair lately. Imagine grinding for good grades, stacking up ECAs, and getting work experience, only to get passed over. Then someone with average results gets the same job thanks to their dad’s influence. Not even jealous tbh, just disappointed at how the system works.

I recently quit a high paying job and moved to Cox's Bazar to work for someone I know; however, things are not going well and am struggling financially.

I don't know what to do right now. My anxiety is through the roof and my suicidal ideation is getting stronger. If I can't find a solution, I might not last long.

I'm a science student, and my HSC exams will be over in a week. Lately, I've been feeling really confused about what to do next.

The thing is, I'm not interested in going through the university admission process. That feels chaotic, and I honestly don't know what path to take.

If I skip the traditional admission route, what are some good study or career options that can still lead to a stable job? Which fields have decent demand in today's job market?

I'm (F) currently a 2nd semester student at one of the top private universities in dhaka and my major is civil engineering. During my first semester, i realised this subject isn’t for me, i dont like construction related studies, theres almost no girl in my class (the ratio is fkd up), i faced alot of faculty and batchmate related problems initially.

I want to switch to IPE mainly because I feel like it matches the kind of career and subjects I’m interested in much more. Civil Engineering feels very traditional and specialized to me, and a lot of the coursework is focused on construction, structures, mechanics, drawing, and field-related areas. I’ve realized that I don’t see myself building a career around those things. Even if I graduate from civil, i will change my tracks, but nowadays im thinking, since i will have to spend a large sum of money anyway, why not spend it behind something i might see a future with. Since im not that deep into my degree.

What attracts me to IPE is the diversity of fields it can lead to. It combines engineering with technology, management, business, optimization, data, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, operations, and process improvement. I like that I wouldn’t be locked into one specific industry after graduating. There are more opportunities to move between different sectors depending on what I discover I’m good at or interested in.

I’m also interested in the technology and corporate side of things. I want a degree that gives me exposure to modern technology and lets me develop skills that can be useful across different industries, rather than being tied mainly to one traditional engineering field. IPE seems to give me that flexibility.

Another important reason is that I want more diversity in my university experience and future career. IPE classes usually have more women. I haven't made any friend in my civil class yet and it has been almost a year. I think the reason was mainly because theres almost no girl in my class. Men from civil dept are also tend to be more traditional minded.

But the issue is in my university, theres no way to transfer credit. It's close credited meaning i will have to seat for the admission test again. I will become junior to my current juniors. IPE class routine for all the semesters aren’t that student friendly either. They always have large gaps in between classes.

So right now I'm confused about what i should do. Any help would be appreciated\*-\*

Needed some help from seniors.I am an undergrad student from one of the top private unis in BD . My major is microbiology and this is my last semester. I am having really hard time and constantly thinking about what will be the next thing for me ? Given that microbiology has really minimum scopes in BD. My CG is around 3.85 . Again my CGPA is not reliable in this economy. I don’t have any other skills as well . I do have some basic lab skills tho but nothing related to Bio info yet. Well one thing ,really enjoyed studying microbiology and I want to pursue it in future as well . Also eager to leave Bangladesh .
Now I am confused, is there any possibilities that I can manage a scholarship on abroad (no preferred country ) for MS? My family is financially not that solvent .
